She tried to call Desmond
"That’s not true, and you know it! I was the one who stayed up all night working on the system. You left, leaving me here all alone." Kane said, but unfortunately for him, no one could stand up for him. Mr. Barnard and Kane were the last persons to remain in the office. No one knew the person who slept and the one who stayed behind. This morning , they came to work and met both of them in the office and also learned that everything has been fixed.
"Kane, let’s not make this more embarrassing for yourself. The truth is, I’m the one who restored the system functionality. I’ve been monitoring the situation closely, and it was my intervention that resolved the issue. You are new here, and clearly, you know you are not even qualified to handle something like that. You are just here because the CEO employed you."
"That’s a lie!" Kane shot back in frustration. "I was employed here because you couldn't handle all the tasks. I've saved your ass a few times, and you know it. Yesterday, you didn’t do anything. I was the one who stayed up working tirelessly on the system. You are just trying to take credit for my work because you feel threatened. You feel you may lose your position to me!"
"Threatened? By you? A small cockroach like you?" Mr. Barnard scoffed with a mocking chuckle. "Don’t flatter yourself, Kane. I’ve been leading this department for years, and we have been doing better. Listen, I know a competent employee when I see one. Unfortunately, that’s not you."
"Mrs. Daniella, please listen to me. I can prove that I restored the system. Check the logs in my system. I used my system to work it out. It will show the exact times I worked on the repairs and the changes I made." Kane said, and Mr. Desmond stepped in before Daniella could respond.
"Oh, I’m sure there are logs, but anyone can manipulate logs to cover their tracks. The fact remains that you have been nothing but a liability since the CEO fixed you in this team." Mr. Barnard said, and Kane turned to the small group of employees who had gathered around. "You all know I’m telling the truth! That I'm the most hardworking man here. I've made significant changes in this department, and all of you know."
The co-workers exchanged uneasy glances. None of them was willing to speak up. Mr. Barnard's influence over the department was well-known, and no one wanted to risk crossing him. Especially not in front of someone as mean and powerful as Daniella.
"Ma'am, you can see he doesn't have anyone who will defend or stand for him, which shows I'm telling the truth." Mr. Barnard said, and Daniella nodded. "I can see."
"This isn’t fair. Mr. Barnard is lying, and you are just taking his word for it because he’s the head. I’ve worked hard since the day I entered here, and this is how I’m treated?"
"Enough, Kane," she said curtly. "I don’t have time for excuses and drama. I don't want to see you anywhere around this company."
"Point of correction, this is not your company. This is Mr. Desmond's company. Only he can fire me. He’s the one who hired me, and until I hear from him, I’m not going anywhere." He said and pulled out his phone from his pocket. "I'm going to call him now and tell him if he's aware of your visitation."
Kane was about to dial Desmond's number, and Daniella snatched the phone from his hand.
"How dare you try to call someone while I’m still talking! It's obvious you are looking down on me. Maybe you think I'm joking all this while. I can see you have no manners. You don't have respect at all." She said and smashed the phone hard to the ground.
