Sylvester wanted to visit the doctor alone, but Vanessa insisted on following him. They got to the doctor's office, and Sylvester knocked.
"Come in." They heard him and pushed the door open. He was unsettled when he saw Vanessa with Sylvester.
"Why are you with him? You are supposed to be lying on the bed." The doctor said.
"I'm tired of lying down." She replied, and they sat down.
"What if Anabel visits and sees you?"
"I can handle her. I just needed to craft some lies, and she will believe".
"You sound so confident. Anyway, why are you guys here?" The doctor asked.
"We came to tell you that we are ready to leave the hospital." Sylvester said. "We will continue the charades at home. Vanessa said she's tired of lying on the bed."
The doctor frowned slightly and folded his arms as he considered Sylvester’s request. "Leaving now? That might be risky. If Anabel realizes that Vanessa is recovering too quickly, she could become suspicious. You might blow your cover. Didn't you think about that?"
"That's not a problem, Doctor." Vanessa spoke up. "Anabel already believes that I'm getting better. She came yesterday and saw me sitting on the bed. We told her I was recovering faster than expected, and she believed us without question. She believed you did a perfect job."
"Yes, doctor." Sylvester added in agreement. "She’s not suspicious at all. She thinks the surgery went perfectly and that Vanessa’s making excellent progress. Moving home won’t raise any alarms. She will think it’s a natural step in the recovery process."
"I understand your confidence, but you might be underestimating her. Staying for a few more days would ensure you don’t slip up. A real post-surgery patient wouldn’t typically leave the hospital this soon. Normally, they stay for at least a week."
"Yes, I understand, but Anabel doesn’t know that. She believes whatever we tell her. As far as she’s concerned, my speedy recovery is a miracle. If we say I’m strong enough to be at home, she will take our word for it. She’s not smart enough to question anything." Vanessa said, and the doctor leaned back in his chair, his lips pressing into a thin line.
"You say she’s not smart enough, but people can surprise you. If she starts asking questions or doing research, she might figure out that a typical liver surgery patient doesn’t leave in three days. That could expose your whole plan." The doctor said, and Vanessa waved her hand dismissively with a smug smile tugging at her lips. "Doctor, you are overthinking this. Anabel doesn’t research anything. She's always busy with her company. She loves Sylvester and is far too trusting. She will believe whatever story we give her, no matter how implausible. You don’t have to worry about her."
"Doctor, trust us. She never doubts me, and this time is no different. We know her better than anyone." Sylvester said.
"Very well. If you guys insist." He said, pulling out a sheet of paper from his desk drawer. "If you are certain you can maintain the charade at home, I will approve your leave. Just make sure you keep up the pretense. It’s a delicate situation, and any slip-up could ruin everything."
Sylvester nodded appreciatively as the doctor began to write something down. After writing, he handed it over to Vanessa. She smirked as she accepted the paper, knowing the medications would only serve as props for their act.
"Buy the drugs. Take it anytime you feel it's necessary. You know what I mean." The doctor said.
"Yeah, I understand," Vanessa answered.
After paying the remaining bill with his phone, Sylvester leaned toward the doctor, offering a handshake to the doctor. "We will make sure to send you your share once Anabel pays the three million dollars.'
"Just don’t let this unravel before then." The doctor said, and Sylvester chuckled softly. "Don’t worry, Doctor. It won't. I've sacrificed so much to let it slip."
With the deal sealed, they both left the office and bought the drugs, ready to continue their charade from the comfort of their house.
