Kane stood up slowly to defend himself. "I think there has been a misunderstanding here." He began. "I didn't know when I slept off. Besides, I wasn’t sleeping because I’m lazy. I’ve been working all night to restore the system after it was attacked by hackers. I finished fixing it very early this morning and must have dozed off." He finished, but Daniella crossed her arms to show she was unimpressed or even buying his stories.
"Do you really expect me to believe that excuse? Sleeping while work is going on is unacceptable, no matter how you try to spin it. Your incompetence is very clear, and you are done here."
"I don't think so. This company needs me here to function properly. Mr. Desmond needs me. You can't just fire me like this. I stressed myself to restore things to order, and you want to pay me back by kicking me out? That's ruthless."
"Do you want to tell me you are better than everyone here? Just pack your personal belongings and leave. I won't repeat myself. Leave when you can still walk with your legs," Daniella said, but before Kane could respond, the head of the system department, Mr. Barnard, stepped out of the office. He heard voices and decided to check what that was.
"What is going on here?" He asked before seeing Daniella standing. "Wow, you are here? Welcome, ma'am." Mr. Barnard knew who she was. He knew about the wedding, but he didn't know about the divorce.
"I guess you are the head of this department." Daniella said, guessing from the man's outfit.
"Yeah. Is there any problem? I heard noises from my office." He asked.
"Why will you hire an incompetent person in this department? I just came in now and saw this employee sleeping. Who does that in an office?"
"Oh! Kane again?" Mr. Bernard said, sounding as if it was Kane's usual behavior. "I'm sorry about that, ma'am. I don't know. As you can see, I just came out of my office. I didn't know that something like that was happening. I was very busy in my office. Besides, Kane has been a problem since he was hired." Mr. Barnard said, and Kane was not surprised. He knew that Mr. Barnard hated him.
Ever since Kane was employed by Desmond, Mr. Barnard had been trying to get him dismissed. He thought that Kane was too talented to be working under him. If he loses his guard, he could lose his position for Kane. He thought that this was the best moment to get him fired.
"I can see that. But did he work all night yesterday? He said he spent the night here, working on the system which was attacked by hackers. Is he telling the truth?" Daniella asked.
"He said that? No way! When I'm the one who worked in the system and restored it to order? He was only assisting me, then left afterwards. He didn't spend the night here, I did." Mr. Barnard replied.
"Oh! He's also a liar." Daniella commented, nodding her head.
"Yeah, I’m glad you’ve come to witness this for yourself. This is exactly the type of issue I’ve been concerned about for some time now. I’ve been trying to explain this to the CEO, but he never takes it seriously. Kane is not qualified enough to be here. I'm happy you can see it yourself. Now he's going to the extent of trying to take credit for my hard work." Mr. Barnard said and Kane was shocked.
He didn't see that coming. He wasn't expecting B
Mr. Barnard to defend him or say any good thing about him, but taking credit of his hard work was unbelievable.
