Daniella seemed entirely unfazed by the attention. That was what she was expecting. She love the way people stared at her. In her mind, she was already the CEO, and these employees were her subjects.
The whispers grew louder as she continued down the hallway. "Isn’t that Mrs. Daniella?" one worker murmured to a colleague, trying to hide his voice behind his hand. "Why is she here?"
"I thought she was just the CEO’s lover." Another worker replied quietly. "Why is she walking around like she owns the place?"
Daniella overheard some of their conversations as she passed by and smirked to herself. She was enjoying the subtle power of being at the center of attention.
It was clear that Daniella’s unexpected arrival had sent ripples through the company. Even at that, she remained entirely focused on her mission. To assert herself and make her presence felt. For her, every gaze was a silent acknowledgment of the authority she believed was already hers.
Tomorrow, once Desmond signed the divorce papers, this company would be hers.
"Take me to the system department." Daniella instructed the deputy manager briskly, snapping her fingers as if she were commanding a servant. She was already exercising her authority, and it felt amazing. Seeing people do whatever she wants.
The deputy manager reluctantly nodded and led her through a series of hallways. When they arrived at the system department, she was surprised to see a very wide room filled with computer stations and glowing monitors.
She wasn't expecting to see anything like that. She could tell that Desmond was richer than she ever thought. The atmosphere was busy, with programmers typing away at their desks, the hum of technology filling the large room.
The deputy manager's phone rang, and he excused himself to answer the call, leaving her to stand alone.
No one recognized who she was. They were all busy, typing on their system. As she kept looking, her eyes landed on a young man who seemed to be asleep.
His name is Kane, a special talented programmer Desmond had hired just a few weeks ago. He was leaning back in his chair and had his head tilted to the side as he slept soundly.
"Who is that idiot sleeping while others are busy?" She muttered under her breath before marching over to Kane’s desk.
She slammed her hand down on the desk with a loud thud, jolting Kane awake. His eyes blinked open in confusion as he straightened up. "Who are you? What’s going on?" He mumbled groggily.
"What’s going on?" Daniella repeated mockingly. "You are sleeping, and you are asking what is going on? You want to know what is going on? What is going on is that you are dismissed!"
"Dismissed?"
"Yes, you are fired!" She repeated, and Kane stared at her in disbelief, still trying to process what was happening. "Fired? Wait, who are you?"
Before Daniella could respond, one of the nearby employees, a junior programmer, looked up from his desk and asked cautiously, "Excuse me, but… Who the hell are you to walk in here and fire someone?"
Daniella got angry, and without warning, she walked closer to his desk and slapped the employee across the face, the sound echoing through the room. The sound made all eyes turn towards her.
"I am Daniella!" she declared loudly. "The wife of your CEO and the soon-to-be boss of this company! Tomorrow, I will become the new CEO, and you will all answer to me. So how dare you question my authority?"
The employee held his cheek in shock. He didn’t dare respond further, and Daniella turned her attention back to Kane.
"Now. Back to you," she continued. "For sleeping while you are supposed to be working, you are fired. Now I want you to pack your personal stuff and get out of this building. I don't need someone like you in my company."
