He tried to inform Anabel
Anabel might be his ex-wife, but he knew she didn't deserve to be exploited like that, even though he didn't know the source of her money.
He wouldn't be able to stand by and let this happen, even if he and Anabel were no longer together. He knew what he had to do.
As he walked away to the doctor's office, he began to think of how he would inform Anabel without tipping off the conspirators.
He got to the doctor's office and picked up the test results. When he got out of the hospital, he entered his car and dialed a number he had never called for a very long time: Anabel's number.
He put it on the loudspeaker and waited for her to pick up. Back in Anabel's house, she was about to arrange for the money when her phone rang.
She checked her phone and was shocked it was Desmond. That was when she knew she hadn't even blocked his number.
"So he still has my number? And qhy is he calling me?" She stared at the phone and ignored it till it was done ringing. She turned to continue what she was doing, and her phone began to ring again.
This time, she couldn't take it. It was as if he was disturbing her. She cut the call and blocked his number, then went on with what she was doing. She wanted to send money from her main account to her spending account.
Desmond didn't know she had blocked him until he tried calling her again and couldn't reach her. He wasn't shocked or surprised. He was expecting it. He saw it coming already.
He picked up his second phone, and this time, he decided to send her a text message.
"Hello, It's Desmond. I know we are apart and that I have no business with anything that concerns you. But I need to warn you about your boyfriend. I overheard him and his fiancée talking. They are deceiving you. The whole situation is a setup to get money from you. She is not his cousin's sister, but his fiancée. She is well. Nothing is wrong with her. Note, I'm not doing this to spoil your relationship with him, but to save and liberate you from him. He is not what you think he is. I know I hurt you, but I couldn't let someone hurt you again. Don't send the money. You can do some investigation yourself." He finished typing and sent it, hoping that Anabel would see his message and understand him. He couldn't bear the thought of her being hurt by this elaborate scheme. Even though they were no longer together, Desmond felt a deep sense of responsibility to protect Anabel from harm.
After sending the message, he called Daniella.
"Hello, I have collected the test results, and everything is okay. Come to the civil affairs office. I will be waiting for you." Desmond said.
"That's wonderful. I will be on my way." Daniella replied and hung up the phone with a triumphant smile spreading across her face.
This was it. She was finally going to marry Desmond. She had meticulously planned everything, and now her efforts were about to pay off. She twirled around her room, giddy with happiness. "Finally! Everything is falling into place," she said to herself. She couldn't help but laugh at the thought of how clueless Desmond was. He had no idea what she had in store for him. She reveled in the thought of the luxurious life that awaited her once she and her boyfriend had secured Desmond's fortune.
As she got ready, Daniella looked at herself in the mirror, admiring her reflection. "You’ve done it, Daniella. Soon, you'll have everything you ever wanted," she murmured. "Poor Desmond, so trusting and naive. He really thinks I'm in love with him. It's almost too easy."
With a final glance at her flawless appearance, Daniella grabbed her purse and headed out to the door.
