I had been standing in front of the mirror for the past twenty minutes trying to decide if I had gone a little bit too extra with my clothes.
Danielle said I needed to make a statement across and what better way can I do that other than to start with my dress?
It was a simple off-shoulder black gown but you could tell it was very expensive just from the material it was made of and the red bottoms to match made me look even more high-end. To make sure I appeared even more mature and classy, I was letting my hair down and in waves.
After the previous encountered where I looked like a college student with my causal clothes while the others looked like they were going for a formal event, I was not going to be caught off guard and insulted again.
“Green is going to be the main colour of the lunch today” Lily sang from behind me and I chuckled in amusement at the terms she was using for jealousy.
“I don’t know about green but there won’t be any opportunity for me to be messed with”
“Damn right there won’t” Lily agreed. To others, doing this may make me look a little bit childish but that was the least of my concern. I was petty and I wore it with pride.
I gave one final twirl to Lily who was clapping wildly and bouncing on my bed that would be crying for mercy if it could talk.
“You look amazing. Oh my God, I wish I could be there to see their jaws drop to the ground when they see how mature and sexy you look.” I had to admit she was right. I looked a little bit mature with the hairstyle and I wasn’t really a fan of looking older but it would do the job.
“Don’t remind me of how old I look” I feigned annoyance but Lily ignored me and instead walked off to grab me my purse before pushing me out the door. She definitely knew that I was trying to stall time.
The ride to Danielle’s house was a little bit shorter than I had expected. The estate she lived in was just about thirty minutes or less from where I was. The estate had a historical feel like it was plucked from the pages of a book with most of the Victorian-themed mansions lining the streets as we drove by.
It was almost like something out of a movie. It was a lovely estate but not one I see myself living in since I had a dislike for anything that resembled royalty. I didn’t have an explanation as to why I didn’t like royalty theme but I remembered not being able to stand for as long as I could remember.
I just found myself avoiding movies, books and even discussions that involved royalty and the heavens were so kind as not to bring a prince my way. I didn’t think it would have been possible to like the person.
I realized that I didn’t even tell the driver or Justin Danielle’s house address but it seemed as though I didn’t need to do that because they were pulling into a massive gate that I hadn’t even realized was at the end of the street.
Compared to the other houses that I have seen as we drove by, this one has obviously undergone an expensive makeover. It looked like a modern castle, it was both beautiful and screamed Danielle. I feel like it would have been easy for me to point it out as her house without being told.
When we got to the entrance, Danielle was waiting by the front door with a wide smile on her face. She was so excited to see me and it made me feel warm inside and special. Immediately, I got out of the car, I was pulled into a very tight hug.
“Can’t breathe” I managed to let out in between the hug I was receiving but she wasn’t letting go and instead started laughing at me. I groaned and pushed her off playfully and this time she let me go but she didn’t let go of my hand.
“Damn girl, you are stunning. I am so loving this look.” She stepped back to scan through my outfit and gave an approving nod.
“I thought it was too much but now that I have your approval, I am not regretting my decision”
“What are you even saying” She looked offended at my statement.
“There is nothing like being overdressed when it comes to women of our status. You have to get used to it. Casual clothes never mean casual clothes you know” She linked her hands with mine and led me inside the house.
“I’m starting to notice that. I plan to do some shopping soon. This whole thing is a lot you know”
“Ooh, shopping, I am definitely coming with you. I love shopping. It's like my therapy for when I am depressed” She squealed.
Honestly, if I hadn’t gotten close to Danielle and had seen her just from afar, I would have thought that she was this snobby and bratty woman with the way she behaved like those typical blondes you see in those cliche American movies which was hypocritical since I looked like a cliché high school dumb barbie doll.
“Honestly, I think that would be good. I would probably need your professional help since you know everything about fashion” She could hear the sarcasm in my words because her eyes narrowed cutely but she was not able to say what she wanted to say before we were interrupted by the person I was least happy to see.
“Look who we have here” Samantha snarkily spoke and I had to hold back myself from flinching at how unpleasant her voice sounded. Atticus found that sexy? He had the weirdest taste or the most unpalatable taste in women that I have ever seen.
If she was expecting a reply from me, she wasn’t going to be getting one and it looks like Dani shared the same thoughts with me because we just walked past her without a word and I was a little bit pained that I didn’t get to see her face.
The other ladies were already at the dining table, eating and laughing and all the activities took a pause as I entered the room, their dislike on their faces but I didn’t mind one bit. I was here for Dani and not them and it’s time they realized that their opinion means so little to me.
I made sure to give each of them that had such ugly expressions my award-winning smile and it was a sight to see their startled expression when they saw that the reaction I was giving was not what they had expected.
Not long after we sat down, Samatha stomped into the dining hall and took a seat angrily across from me. I had not realized that she was still standing in the hallways where we left her.
“Ladies, thank you for honouring this little meeting. As most of us know, it is close to the time of our bi-annual charity and we need to decide on what we are donating towards.” Danielle addressed us and I raised a brow in confusion. I thought this was just a simple lunch.
Well, I wouldn’t call it a simple lunch, all the ladies were dressed as though they were attending a very important event and I could not help but reminisce what Danielle said with them, simple was never simple and I could see it.
Jessica, Miranda and Samantha were the only ones I could recognize but that didn’t matter, it wasn’t like I was going to become best buddies with them.
“Okay so I know we’ve been donating more towards health and women, so I think we should do something a little bit different this time. There is a school downtown that needs a lot of renovations and materials. It would be on the high side, more than usual but I think we can do it. What do you guys think?” Danielle continued
“I like it. That way we could touch numerous lives at once instead of doing one or two kids at a time” The brunette sitting next to Jessica spoke and she looked excited about it
“That's easy for you to say Mirabelle, but I think we should ask how much the renovations would cost each of us first” Miranda attacked her and the woman's eyes widened a considerable amount.
“I totally agree with you Mira, I mean it's a school so it's going to cost a lot, won’t it? '' Samantha supported her friend. They were so annoying.
“I understand your concerns ladies but I can assure you it is not going to be anything that we cannot afford. I made sure of that” It was obvious Danielle was trying to keep her anger in check and I commended her for it but at the same time I felt bad for her knowing that she couldn’t just kick them out just because she didn’t like them, they had certain rules they followed.
“Really? So how much is it going to cost us?” Samantha asked sceptically and I couldn't help but wonder if she would be unable to afford it, she was pretty rich.
“Why? Are you scared or broke?” I didn’t even know what was wrong with me and why I decided to reply but it was too late as her eyes narrowed into slits and I could feel fumes escaping through her ears.
“You should be the scared one, not me? What are you even doing here when you are a charity case yourself? Hmmm, a charity case trying to do charity is just hilarious.” Jessica and Miranda burst out laughing and I could feel my cheeks heat up in anger and embarrassment.
“It’s funny how you, the one person who cannot get a man but attaches herself to mine like a leech and a parasite have the guts to call me a charity case when you are the definition of one, profiting off my husband and the crumbs he gives you” My statement this time didn’t even get to her but instead, her smile turned menacing and I had a feeling I won’t like the next thing that came out of her mouth.
“Yet there he was, last night in my bed unable to get enough of me since he couldn’t stand his wife” If words were guns, I would have been dead.
