I had to admit that I was a little bit worried after Samantha’s threat to tell Atticus what had happened. I had met a fair share of girls like her and knew how they could twist an event into something else.
I had no idea how important she was to my husband so I couldn’t be confident that he would believe me over her. She had claimed that they were meant to be married. If what she said was true, that meant he probably loved her and trusted her to a large extent.
It made me wonder why he would marry me for my company shares which he could do without if he already had someone he loved and was going to marry. Samantha’s father must be someone of important status as well since she was bragging so much about her status.
I had only threatened her because I wanted her to leave the house, but I never actually expected her to leave. I was surprised when she hurried off the property like her tail was on fire and I must admit, it had been so hilarious.
Leonardo would not stop thanking and apologizing for putting me in a spot and I was tired of explaining to him that whether I liked it or not, I would have encountered her, and we would not have become friends regardless of how the meeting occurred.
One thing I was satisfied with what that a line had been drawn and she knew that I wasn’t going to just sit back and relax while she walked over me because she happened to be the one my husband was fucking.
Thinking about everything that happened made my emotions switch from worry to anger. I waved it off my thoughts before my mood got even worse. It already happened and there was no need for me to grow grey hairs over it.
I spent another day doing nothing and before I knew it, it was time for Atticus to come home. I was torn between having dinner now so I could escape to my room before he came home or just wait for him to come back so I could find out if he had heard about what had taken place this morning.
“Since when were you a pussy, Hazel?” I muttered to myself “I’m just going to wait for him to come home and get it done once and for all”
Who cares what he heard about me from that stupid hoe? I’d wait for him to come home so we could thrash it once and for all.
I sat in the living room for about thirty minutes waiting for him to come back before I heard the sound of a car pulling up front reached my ears. I sat up straight and braced myself as I waited for him to enter the house.
When Atticus entered the house, he was surprised to see me seated on the couch. I had never waited for him, and he looked like he was trying to decide if I was waiting for him, or I just happened to be seated here.
He studied me for a few seconds before walking past me and into the house without saying anything. He wasn’t angry from what I observed but with Atticus, looks could be deceiving.
I stood up and walked into the kitchen where Leonardo and Lily had been talking.
“Leonardo, please set up the table for two. Lily, tell Atticus to come down for dinner but don’t tell him I was the one who sent you”
She gave me a confused look but left without saying anything. I didn’t want him to know what I had been waiting for him.
Atticus came down shortly and arched a brow in surprise when he saw me seated at the table, but he said nothing. He sat in silence and waited for the meal to be served before he started eating.
A few minutes into dinner I could safely conclude that his mistress could not muster the courage to tell him about what happened, and it confirmed my suspicions that she was all talk and no bite.
“I’m surprised to see you are still up. Were you by any chance waiting for me?” Atticus suddenly spoke up.
“Please, don’t flatter yourself. I was so caught up with my phone that I forgot the time” I scoffed, without looking at him.
“Well, that’s good because I have something to discuss with you” I guess I spoke too soon. It seemed the little miss had some balls up her ass. I wondered what type of shit she spewed to him.
I was going to take the opportunity to talk to him about doing something to keep me busy. I was bored out of my mind with staying at home all day.
I didn’t have any idea what I wanted to do but I just wanted to throw the idea out there and see the kind of response I would get from him, but it looked like that would be a discussion for another day.
“What is it?” I asked, making sure to erase any trace of worry from my voice.
“I will talk about it after dinner.” He said and continued to eat.
I also didn’t want to talk over dinner when there was a high chance of me choking to death if he suddenly said something out of nowhere that would surprise the hell out of me.
I may or may not have rushed my meal so we could get the talk over with. It was much easier for me to talk to his sisters and mistresses and put them in their places than to talk to him.
It must be the way he carried himself with the type of confidence that made him look like someone who could never be wrong. How could you win against someone with such a dominating aura?
We finished eating and took a seat opposite each other in the living room. “What did you want to discuss with me?” I asked as soon as he sat down.
“There is an event tomorrow night and I need you to attend as my wife” He answered. I didn’t appreciate the expression on his face. It was as though he would prefer if I didn’t go.
“Thank you but I think I’ll pass on this one” He had to know that he wasn’t the only one uncomfortable in this marriage.
“It seems you’d prefer if I didn’t come so why not take one of your mistresses instead? I’m sure they would love to come with you”
“If that was an option, then I wouldn’t have been asking you” Well, that was blunt.
“That doesn’t sound like it’s my business.” I arched a brow. “I’m sure you’ll come up with an excuse as to why I can’t make it, or you can just parade one of your women as your wife”
There was a staring contest before he sighed in defeat, but I could tell he was not happy about it.
“That came out wrong” He began “There is a fundraiser tomorrow night and it is being hosted by a very good friend of mine. I think it would be the perfect opportunity to introduce you to my friends and acquaintances. Please I’d like you to accompany me”
“Well, since you begged so earnestly, I should help you out” I stretched out my hands to him and he arched a brow in confusion.
“Well, I’m going to need one hell of a dress for my first outing and it’s definitely not going to be bought with my money” If there was one thing I knew how to do well, it was how to dress to kill.
I was a show off and I loved pretty things. This was a good opportunity to show them that the girl who became Atticus’s wife was not only beautiful and elegant, but she could hold her ground.
I was familiar with events like this since I had to go with my dad to some of them so I knew they would be swarming with ladies who hoped to have been his wife, and they would not hesitate to try to bully me.
“Ah yes, you would need to do some quick shopping, here you go” He placed his hand inside his pocket and brought out his wallet. He handed me a black card identical to mine.
Yes, I had a black card as well but there was something about spending money that wasn’t mine besides I was going overboard for him. I was going to make myself a prey for his sluts.
“Thank you. Is there a theme or colour code for the party?” Some of these events love to go with colour codes sometimes to make the event look more classy or uninformed.
“No. just wear something nice, and I would like it if it’s nothing too dramatic” he told me with a hidden warning in his tone.
If I wasn’t hell-bent on making a statement, I would have done the opposite of what he just said. I hated being told what to do. It brought out my inner rebellious side that always made me do things I would later hate.
“I won’t, you don’t have to worry. What time is it starting?”
“About 8 pm. It should be over before 11 pm.” I don’t understand people who organized events in the night. I should be sleeping but instead, I would spend my time trying to make a statement on people that weren’t worth it.
“I can work with that. Is that all?” I asked.
“Yes”
I didn’t reply to him and instead walked out of the living room with my head filled with ideas of what I could wear to make everyone feel lesser.
