More Than A Business Deal

The mistress

Ch. 19 / 73 May 09, 2026

Something was chirping rather too loud against my window and it was getting too annoying.

The sun streaking through the window had not been enough to wake me up but the bird that wouldn’t stop chirping so loudly was making it difficult for me to remain asleep.

I turned to my right so I was facing the window and threw the bird the hardest glare I could muster so early in the morning but the annoying twat just faced the other side too and continued its business like it wasn’t being so fucking loud.

There was no way I was falling asleep again with the bird shouting and refusing to fly away and I was not about to let it stay there just because I was lazy.

A loud yawn escaped my lips and I stretched my little body on the bed before standing up.

The bird flew away as soon as I took my first step towards the window and I clenched my fist in annoyance to prevent screaming out of frustration.

I picked up my phone to check the time and saw it was a quarter past eight which was way too early for me to be awake considering how late I slept because of those inconsiderable people.

Speaking of inconsiderate people, I looked out my window to see Atticus’s car gone which meant he had gone to work and maybe the lady would have gone with him too. I didn’t think I had the stomach to look at them both today.

Since I was up and I no longer felt like I needed to dive back under my covers and go back to sleep, I decided to take a shower and go downstairs for breakfast.

After a very long argument with Lorenzo which I obviously won, I have been having my breakfast in the kitchen and sometimes when I felt like it, I ate all three meals in the kitchen.

I could see Lorenzo always frowning as I ate but I didn’t pay him any mind. I wasn’t going to be eating alone like a sad soul all the time.

The shower I took was very long and relaxing and because of that, I was put in a dress-up mood. I felt extremely sexy and beautiful today and I wanted to look so as well so now I was going through my large walk-in closet to find a befitting dress to match my mood.

I had pastel colors in mind so I was watching out for the pastel-colored dresses I could find in my closet.

I was aiming for a soft girl look that would make me look like a fairy. I wanted to look elegant and not from this world because that was how I felt.

As my hands ran through the clothes on my hangers, I touched something extremely soft and I pulled it out. It was a soft cotton strapless gown that stopped just above my knees.

It was a pastel blue colour and it came with a matching long chiffon jacket that was so long, it dragged along the floor when I walked like a wedding train.

The outfit already had me imagining a fairy and I was loving it. I put on the dress immediately. When I stood in front of the mirror to look at myself, I was satisfied with the look. The dress made me look delicate and sexy at the same time.

I did my makeup as well, something I haven’t done in a while since I got here. For my eyes, I used a soft nude eye shadow that made my blue eyes pop out more and for my lips, I used a lip tint and finished it with a gloss.

Not to brag or anything but if I was a boy, I would drool over me right now. I took a couple of selfies and mirror photos as well before heading downstairs to the kitchen.

I saw Lily in the living room doing some cleaning and I was about to ask her to take some photos of me as well when I noticed the uncomfortable look on her face. Her expression got worse when she saw me and she kept glancing towards the kitchen in panic.

“Hey Lily, what’s wrong? Why does your face look like that?” I asked her as I approached her.

I wondered what could have happened to make her have that fearful expression on her face but she didn’t have to answer me.

“Are you crazy? What kind of food is this? Do you want to kill me, you insolent fool” Someone scratched from the kitchen.

I jumped from shock as the loud voice rang through the whole house and Lily’s eyes widened in panic

“Who’s that?” I asked as I began to make my way towards the kitchen.

I hoped that Atticus’ sisters weren’t back and they weren’t giving my staff hell because they would not like the way they would be treated by me.

“It’s Mistress Samantha” Lily answered, her voice trembling as she spoke.

“Who the hell is she?” I asked again because I didn’t remember Atticus having a relative called Samantha, at least from my research and even if he had such a relative, that didn’t give her the right to be screaming in my kitchen and at my workers.

“She…. She…. She is” My patience was very thin now and I was not in the mood to be patient with her as she scrambled to put her words together

“Speak up Lily” I snapped at her and she flinched at my loud voice.

“Mr Hayland’s girlfriend?” She answered as though she was not sure of herself.

“The one who came home with him last night?” I didn’t even wait for her to answer me before making my way to the kitchen, the anger from last night resurfacing.

My body began to tingle at the thought of having a scapegoat to lash out at.

I entered the kitchen just in time to see a hand coming down on Lorenzo about to smack him.

“If you don’t want to leave this house with bruises, you should not let that hand drop,” I told her calmly as I recognized her as the woman who was clinging to my husband’s arms last night.

I may not be the wife he wanted but hell if I would allow to be treated like this.

Her hands dropped and she turned to look at me with a sneer on her face. She looked me up and down like I was thrash but I paid her no mind.

“Please set the table, I’m starving and would like to eat breakfast,” I told Lorenzo and he gave me a curt nod before moving hastily around the kitchen.

I shoved Samantha with my shoulders so I could sit in my usual seat. She gasped in surprise at my behaviour, probably not expecting that I would be so open with my thoughts of her.

If she wanted to behave like an insane person, I would be glad to reciprocate.

“Who do you think you are?” She screamed again.

Jesus Christ, how could someone’s voice sound like nails scratching against a chalkboard? It was so loud and unflattering.

“The owner of this house and Atticus’ wife. Who are you and why are you making a scene in my kitchen?” I fired back.

I watched as her face changed from annoyance to confusion and back to irritation.

“You are such a clown, your house? Last I checked, the house belonged to the man who spent the entire night buried in me because he couldn’t get enough of me” She said smugly. She really hit the wound in the sore spot.

“Yet, here you are without his ring” I mocked. I watched as her eyes widened and she clenched her jaw in annoyance at my comeback.

“That doesn’t matter as long as I am the one in his bed every night satisfying his needs. You call yourself his wife yet you don’t know what your husband tastes like” She regained her confidence and she was hitting the sore spot with her words but I had to make sure that she would never see how much her words were getting to me.

“Sure, you can keep being the mistress he uses for sex but at the end of the day, he is my husband” I made sure to emphasize use.

“You think you have the right to be smug when you were forced on him? I hope you know that he would never fall in love with you?”

“I don’t remember ever telling you I wanted his love or didn’t you hear that he married me because he needed something that only I could give him?”

“What do you mean? He only married you because he didn’t have a choice. We were supposed to be married before you were forced on him” She argued.

“And yet here you are, now pushed aside to being the mistress because you couldn’t offer anything valuable” I mocked.

I couldn’t believe I was fighting over a man, something I had promised I would never do.

“How dare you insult me? Do you know who I am? Do you even know who my father is?” She angrily barked.

“No one important if you are still clinging to a married man in hopes of being a legal whore. I mean if you were that important, why would he marry me and not you? And shouldn’t you have other better options if you were that important” I mocked and I made sure to laugh so loud after I completed my statement.

“You can’t talk to me that way. I would tell Atty everything that happened today and make sure he punishes you for this” she bragged.

Oh my god, she was so pathetic, I couldn’t even waste my energy to properly put her in her place because she was not worth it.

“I’m sure poor Atty would run all the way from his important meetings to give me a beating when you tell him his wife stopped you from hitting his worker” She froze and turned to Lorenzo who was setting up the table.

“I…I….I didn’t hit him and you can’t prove that I attempted to” She said

“I’m sure the CCTV would prove otherwise,” I told her pointing towards the CCTV camera that was placed near the ceiling on the far right end of the kitchen.

She gasped as she followed my fingers and saw the camera looking straight at her. It seemed she wasn’t aware of it. For someone who came here quite often, she sure wasn’t observant.

She realized she didn’t have anything to say so she stomped out of the kitchen.

“I hope you are on your way out because if I find you in my house without my husband present, I will drag you out by your cheap wig” I threatened. She widened her eyes in shock and moved quickly out of the kitchen.

Dragging someone or putting people in their place has to be the best cure for everything. I suddenly felt better and the food tasted a hundred times better.
