Daniella’s POV
My heart raced excitedly as I sat down with Tricia, my best friend, in the quiet corner of the pack's community centre. I couldn't contain my joy any longer.
"Tricia, can you believe it? I'm going to be the Luna," I exclaimed, my eyes sparkling with happiness.
Tricia beamed with pride and hugged me tightly. "I knew you could do it, Daniella. You're going to be amazing. Luna Lara will teach you all you need to know, and she is an expert. We all think you're so lucky. You get four mates. That is so awesome.” she gushed, and I hugged her again. Both of us shrieked with excitement. We must have looked like a proper pair of loons, but we didn't care.
“You will be the best Luna alongside the alpha quads. Rylan will come around to the idea sooner or later.” Despite Tricia's encouraging words, a sense of unease crept over me as I thought about Rylan, the Alpha's son and one of the quadruple brothers. He had always been distant towards me, and I knew he disapproved of me becoming the Luna. But I pushed those thoughts aside, focusing on the support I had received from the other three brothers.
But as Tricia and I continued to talk, unbeknownst to us, Rylan had overheard our conversation.
“You still believe that crap will happen, Daniella? Are you deluded? You know the White Wolf is my mate. Remember how she saved your ass.” His jaw clenched in anger as he listened to my excitement over my new role.
“Rylan... I..” I stuttered over my words, unsure what to say, but he held his hand up dismissively. He stormed off, his mind filled with thoughts about ending this.
I watched nervously as Rylan made his way to his brothers, his face a mask of fury. "Enough is enough," he growled. "I won't stand for Daniella becoming our Luna. She's not fit to lead this pack. If you choose her behind my back, I will leave this pack for good. Your choice.”
The other brothers exchanged worried glances, unsure how to respond to Rylan's outburst. But they knew he was serious when he threatened to leave the Creek Pack for good if I was accepted as the Luna.
Realising the gravity of the situation, a pang of sadness and uncertainty washed over me. I had dreamt of being the Luna for as long as I could remember, but now it seemed like my dream was slipping away. I wanted to cry, but I was numb.
As Rylan stormed out of the pack house, leaving behind an air of tension and uncertainty, I turned to Tricia, my heart heavy with conflicting emotions. Tricia reached out and gently squeezed my hand, her eyes filled with concern.
"Daniella, are you okay?" Tricia asked softly, her voice filled with genuine worry.
I let out a shaky breath, trying to compose myself. "I don't know, Tricia. This is all happening so fast, and now Rylan..." I trailed off, unsure of how to express the whirlwind of feelings swirling inside me.
Tricia nodded sympathetically, her expression understanding. "This must be hard for you, especially with Rylan's reaction. But remember, Daniella, you deserve to be the Luna. You've worked so hard for this."
Her words provided a glimmer of comfort. "You're right, Tricia. I can't let Rylan's disapproval stop me from embracing this opportunity. I have to be strong and stand up for myself."
Tricia flashed me a supportive smile. "That's the spirit, Daniella. You're stronger than you think, and I believe in you. We need to figure out a way to address this with the brothers. We can't let Rylan dictate your future as Luna."
I nodded, grateful for Tricia's unwavering support. "You're right, Tricia. I won't let Rylan's opinions hold me back. I'll talk to the brothers and make my case. I deserve to be the Luna, and I won't back down."
I was surprised to see Rio approach me with a sombre expression. His dark eyes held a mix of sadness and resolved as he stood before me, his usually confident demeanour faltering.
"Daniella, can we talk?" Rio asked, his voice tinged with a hint of vulnerability that I had never seen in him before.
I looked up, meeting his gaze with curiosity and apprehension. "Of course, Rio. What's on your mind?"
Rio took a deep breath, his shoulders tense with emotion. "I... I wanted to apologise on behalf of my brother, Rylan. His behaviour towards you was uncalled for, and I'm truly sorry for how he treated you."
Rio's unexpected apology took me aback, his sincerity shining through his words. A wave of gratitude washed over me as I realised that Rio was standing up for me despite the conflict within his own family.
"Thank you, Rio," I replied, my voice soft with emotion. "I appreciate your apology, and I know Rylan's actions don't reflect who you are. It means a lot to me that you're willing to acknowledge his behaviour and reach out to me."
Rio's eyes softened, a hint of warmth flickering in his gaze. "I care about you, Daniella, and I can't stand to see you treated unfairly. You deserve to be the Luna, and I believe in you."
His words touched my heart, and I felt conflicting emotions swirl.
"Rio," I began, my voice barely above a whisper. "I... I appreciate your support more than you know. And I... I care about you, too."
A faint blush crept across Rio's cheeks as he met my gaze, a spark of hope and longing shining in his eyes. "Daniella, I... I love you."
My heart soared at his confession, my feelings bubbling to the surface. "Rio, I love you too."
