Alpha's Redemption: A Second Chance Mate

Chapter 55: Resurrection Pole

Ch. 55 / 70 Jan 22, 2025

Richard's Pov

"No, no no!!!! Alpha Darian, please wake." Elena cried bitterly once I dropped the lifeless body of my brother.

"Please wake up, Alpha Darian. She kept on crying while pushing Darian's lifeless body, ignoring the consolation of the other she-wolves.

Meanwhile, I stood beside Ciara, fighting back my tears. From Ciara's facial expressions, it was clear that she too was fighting back her own tears. As Alphas, we weren't allowed to shed tears before our subjects; shedding tears was like showing off our weaknesses, whereas we were required to remain strong in any situation.

After some minutes, Ciara, who couldn't withhold her tears anymore, turned and started heading towards her chamber; at least that was the only place where she could shed a sob privately.

I don't know much about Darian and Elena's relationship but one thing was sure, she hated him during his lifetime because of how he mistreated her and I can't judge her because of that, even I too would have hated him if I was in her shoes, but despite the hatred she felt towards him, there was this part of her that still loved him and that was why she didn't allow me to mark her and every time she reminded me that he was still her mate even though they weren't together anymore, only if she had known that something like this was going to take place, she would have already forgiven him but just as they say, time and unexpected events always over takes us leaving us with only statement which is nothing else than "had I known."

Looking at Darian's lifeless body once again, I wiped away the tears that were slowly streaming down my cheeks without my realization before heading towards Ciara's chamber, and just like I had expected, she too was sobbing bitterly. On seeing her in that state, the tears that I had been fighting to hold back started streaming down freely on my cheeks.

"You know your brother was a very stubborn type just like you, and sometimes I can't help but ask myself if stubbornness is the only thing the both of you have in common as twins," she said to me, wiping away the tears on her face.

"Maybe you are right, Ciara; that's the only thing we have in common; if not, we were two different people despite the fact that we were twins," I said to Ciara while wiping the tears away from my face too.

"Were the supreme Alphas responsible for his death?" Ciara asked me as I was walking around the room.

"I can't really say, Ciara; they were about to burn him when I got there, and I didn't have the chance to ask about who murdered him," I said to Ciara while backing her.

"When are we going to burry him? The full moon is in two hours, and we need to burry him during the full moon since he's an Alpha, or we will have to wait till the next full moon or burry him like every other werewolf," I said to her while grabbing a pole that had mirrors all around, kept in a corner in her chamber.

"I think Elena would be in the right place to decide that," Ciara said to me in reply.

"What is this?" I asked her while showing her the pole I was holding.

"It's an ancient pole that was once used to perform resurrection, but it didn't work, and the Alpha werewolf that practiced it lost his Alpha abilities," she said to me, and I furrowed my brows at her.

"I don't get it; can you explain further?" I asked her.

"According to the legends, an Alpha werewolf once tried to resurrect his Beta, who was also his best friend on the full moon, with this pole, but unfortunately it didn't work, and he also lost his Alpha ability, becoming a beta werewolf just to let his subjects, and since then, no one has ever tried it again," she said to me, and I nodded while looking at the object in my hands.

"What are you thinking, Richard? Don't tell me you are going to try to resurrect your brother with that thing," she said to me, but I remained silent.

"Richard, it's very dangerous; you might lose your Alpha abilities if it doesn't work," she said to me.

"You said that the person who did it was a werewolf, but I'm not a werewolf; I'm a Lycan, and I'm going to do it," I said to her while inspecting the pole.

"No, Richard, I'm not going to allow you to do that; Darian is already dead, and there's nothing we can do about it," she said to me in a dissuasive manner.

"I'm sorry, Ciara, but I have to do it; I have to take the risk; if I had taken the risk by assisting him to fight against the supreme Alpha's, he would surely be alive by now and not lying lifeless outside. This is my second chance to save him, and please don't try to stop me; I will take full responsibility if it doesn't work," I said to her, and she sighed heavily.

"OK, Richard, I hope you don't end up regretting this," she said to me before standing up.

"The full moon is in an hour, and the ritual has to take place before the full moon, but just as I told you, if it doesn't work, you will lose your Alpha abilities. Don't think that because you are a Lycan, there is going to be an exception because there isn't going to be," she said to me.

"Come on, Ciara, I'm aware of that, and please stop repeating it over and over again; it's creeping me out," I said to her.

"Well, I don't want to hear tomorrow that it's because of Ciara that I'm no longer an Alpha, so that's why I'm reminding you of it for you so that even the walls will be my witnesses," she said to me.

"Whatever Ciara, let's just get going; we are running out of time," I said to her before heading to the exit with the pole in my hand.

"As you wish, Richard," she said to me while following me from behind.
