Alpha's Caged Love

Facing the foe

Ch. 151 / 159 May 05, 2026

Jennifer woke up in a haze. Whatever evil drink they were made to drink had dulled her senses. Hawk's nasty smile was the last thing she could recall. And then there was nothing but darkness. As her mind slowly came back to her. The dimly lit cave smelled of dampness and dread. As soon as she saw how bad things were, she felt a rush of fear. Dr. Colin was sleeping next to her. There were marks on his face where he had been hit. Jennifer gave him a gentle tap on the shoulder and said, "Dr. Colin, wake up!" The fog of confusion cleared as soon as he opened his eyes, and he saw how bad things were.

"What's going on?" He asked groggily.

"Shh," Jennifer warned him. "Let's continue what we were doing. The guards seemed distracted." Dr. Colin nodded, understanding the urgency in Jennifer's voice. They both knew that they needed to seize this opportunity and escape while the guards were preoccupied. They cautiously resumed untangling the knots.

Jennifer did not know how long they had slept. Was it too late? Jennifer's mind raced with uncertainty as she desperately hoped they hadn't missed their chance. The weight of the situation pressed heavily on her, fuelling her determination to free themselves and save her daughter before it was too late. Jennifer and Colin didn't take long. They could get out of the tight, painful knots that had tied their wrists together, even though their hands were shaking. As the ropes came loose, they looked nervously at each other and felt their hearts beat fast.

"Let's shift!"

Their bones changed shape, and in an instant, they turned into fierce wolves with wild-looking eyes. Their transformation brought a surge of power and adrenaline, amplifying their senses and instincts.

"It's good to have you back," Jennifer whispered to her wolf. Who growled back in appreciation? They were united after 15 years, and her wolf was pissed! Jennifer could feel the deep connection between them, as if they were never truly apart. Her howl echoed through the night. The sound of her howl caught the attention of the guards, who came running from the mouth of the cave where they had been stationed. Jennifer and Colin didn't wait; they jumped on them. When teeth met flesh, the cave was filled with the sounds of a violent fight. That they were surprised helped them, and the werewolf guards were quickly put down.

Just as Jennifer and Colin won and came out of the cave, a loud blast shook the cave. When they heard loud, angry sounds in the night, they stopped in their tracks. Jennifer looked down the cliff into the valley. Her old pack was now a roaring firestorm that burned everything in its path. She gasped and couldn't believe what she was seeing. "NO!"

Jennifer's heart sank as she realised that her former pack, the one she had once called family, was now engulfed in flames.

The deafening roar of the explosion echoed through the dense forest, shattering the eerie silence of the night. Rubbles and plasters rained down around Selena as she staggered, momentarily blinded by the blinding flash of the blast. She would have been consumed by the chaotic debris had it not been for the tall, imposing figure of Cayden, who instinctively shielded her with his massive frame.

As the dust settled, Selena coughed and blinked rapidly, her eyes stinging with irritation. Her heart pounded in her chest, but she was relieved to see that Cayden was safe, his muscular arms still wrapped protectively around her.

She glanced over to her left, where Kylie stood, trembling from the shockwave. Kylie's face bore a mischievous smirk as she quipped, "Selena, darling, why do you cause explosions everywhere you go? "

Selena chuckled despite the tense situation. "Believe me, Kylie, this wasn't my doing. Explosions just seem to follow me around."

Cayden, however, was in no mood for jest. His piercing green eyes bore into Selena with a mixture of anger and concern. "Selena," he growled, "this is precisely why I didn't want you to come to the Silver River Pack. You could have been killed!"

"I had to come, Cayden. My mum came into my dream. She told me that Hawk was trying to catch you in a trap. You had to be warned. And I couldn't reach you." As Cayden thought about what Selena had said, his rage briefly went away. He almost whispered, "A dream?" before shaking his head. "Well, then I guess that explains why the bomb went off." Max came out of the darkness, his enormous body almost vibrating with anger. He looked at Kylie, who had the nerve to still have a smile on her face. "And you, Kylie," he yelled, "what in the moon's name made you come charging into a war zone?" Kylie just shrugged, but her eyes showed she was up to something. "Oh, Max, my sweetheart, I just couldn't pass up the chance to see some action for myself. Plus, I knew Selena would get in trouble, and I couldn't let her have all the fun." Max rolled his eyes. "Typical Kylie," Max muttered under his breath, trying to hide a hint of amusement. He had always admired her fearlessness. However, deep down, he couldn't help but worry about the consequences of her impulsive actions. Cayden, whose jaw was clenched in anger, stopped the conversation. "Stop talking rubbish. Selena, your impulsiveness could put all of us in danger."

"Then you shouldn't have left me!" Selena quipped. "I told you I wanted to kill him with my own hands."

Another blast broke their armour. Cayden and Max caught their mates and ran for cover, seeking shelter from the chaos erupting around them.

"I didn't come here to talk to Hawk. I came here to kill him as well," Cayden assured Selena.

"So let's do it together. Please, Cayden." Selena pleaded; her eyes filled with determination. "We can't let him escape this time." Cayden hesitated for a moment, weighing the risks against their shared goal. After a deep breath, he nodded in agreement. "Alright, Selena. Let's end this once and for all. But you will stay with me. You won't shift, and you will do as I say. Otherwise. I will tie you up for the next five decades before I let you out," Cayden barked angrily.

Selena nodded; her expression was serious. "I understand, Cayden."

With their plan set, they braced themselves for the intense battle that awaited them, ready to face whatever chaos came their way.

The wolves charged into the compound, howling as they did so.

Cayden sprang forward and landed on the first available mercenary he came across. His teeth dug into the man's neck as his claws scratched at his stomach. The man was killed quickly and cleanly, and he forgot about him right away as he moved on to the next target. The sounds of screams filled the night air as the war started. There were short bursts of gunfire and loud whines of pain, but everything was a blur to Selena.

He moved through the chaos, searching for Hawk.

Connard Hawk walked out of the ruins and into the middle of the complex, almost gracefully stepping over bodies without even looking down. His long claws clacked against each other anxiously, making a staccato sound that seemed to echo loudly through the night.

Slowly, the realisation spread to the surrounding areas. They moved away from him without thinking. Hawk turned his head around and looked at Cayden, who was standing there like a rock and sniffing the night air. His plan was partially successful. A few more blasts, and everything would end.

When Cayden spotted Hawk, he felt a surge of adrenaline course through his veins. He knew he had to shoot to stop Hawk from causing further destruction. With a swift motion, Cayden lunged towards Hawk.

Hawk watched Cayden, a bitter smile crossing his hard face as he flexed his talons loosely at his side. "This ends now," he said in a dangerously quiet voice. "Everyone dies, Cayden."
