Cayden was working in his office. Suddenly he was filled with fear, and for a moment he couldn't breathe because he was so scared.
For a second, he was still and couldn't do anything. He snapped out of it with a loud snarl.
"What! "What's up?" Max worriedly moved around his desk. His Alpha was gripping the desk so hard that his knuckles were going white. Cayden was so tense that every muscle in his body was tensing.
"There's something. I feel like Selena is in danger!"
Max's face went pale.
*************
There was a hairpin curve after the four-way stop.
"Everyone, hold on!" Anna called out as she got ready. We're going too fast."
As the car sped around the turn and crashed into the guardrail, the tyres screeched on the asphalt. Selena was thrown into the passenger's window and hit her head hard. The car then slid across the road into oncoming traffic, and Selena was jerked back as the car moved forwards. No one was on the other side of the road, which was lucky. They hit the guardrail on the other side of the road and went back into their right lane. Again, the car ran into the guardrail and flipped over it. Selena watched as her world turned upside down as the car rolled down the small hill.
Selena was bombarded with noise from all sides. The sharp screech of metal wrenching, glass cracking, someone yelling... The repeated flipping pushed Selena's stomach up into her throat. Anna's arms sprang out as the automobile slapped Selena over and over. Minor items from the car, such as spare cash from the cup holder, struck both of them as they fell down the embankment.
The car eventually came to rest on its side. Selena's side of the car was on the ground, and Anna was still strapped into the driver's seat above her. As Selena attempted to focus, blood ran down her face and into her eyes.
The smell of gas flooded the car, choking Selena.
"Oh sh*t, I smell gas."
"Is everyone alright?" Maya said aloud.
Selena's heart raced as she struggled to catch her breath. She could hear Anna groaning in pain above her, but Maya's voice brought a glimmer of hope. "I think so," Selena replied, her voice trembling.
"We need to get out of the car!" Selena shouted; her voice filled with urgency. The fear of an explosion loomed over them as they desperately searched for a way to escape the wreckage.
"Selena?" Anna tugged at the seatbelt. "I can't—it won't come off—oh my god! Is that gas I smell?"
The fear in Anna's voice triggered Selena's wolf. But she couldn't shift!
Selena watched as Anna began her change. The car boomed with loud popping sounds as her dress ripped about her. The other girls quickly followed. Anna's wolf strained against the seatbelt, eventually destroying it with her long, deadly canines. Maya used her hind legs to kick against the dash, giving her more room, and her weight destroyed the car seat.
Using her sharp teeth and powerful jaws, Anna ripped the belt, freeing Selena. They got out of the car, carefully pulling Selena out. Once Selena was safely out of the car, Anna's wolf's form towered over her, its fur bristling with raw power. Maya and Milli, now fully transformed, joined them outside the wreckage, their eyes gleaming with a newfound ferocity.
"We need to shift back," Maya said. Otherwise, the human rescuers will get suspicious."
Anna nodded in agreement, her eyes scanning the area for any signs of approaching humans. "Let's find a safe place to shift back," she suggested, her voice laced with urgency. They quickly made their way towards a dense thicket, where they could conceal their transformation from prying eyes.
"Oh my god," Milli said, realising her clothes were now shredded.
Wait, I will get the bag of clothes from the wreckage." Selena offered.
She walked towards the wreckage and grabbed as many bags as she could.
Maya grabbed the bag and pulled out a bikini coverup. "Well, it's better than nothing."
The girls dressed up and walked back to the wreckage. Selena was glad that her mother was not with them in the car. She was already fragile. She didn't need the added stress of an accident.
Moments later, the fire department, police, and the ambulance pulled up. They had already informed Cayden.
***************
Cayden and Max both flinched as Max's cell phone rang. Max responded, his hands trembling. Max's stomach plummeted as he turned completely white. He hung up after listening to whoever was on the phone saying nothing.
"Selena and my sisters... had a car accident recently. Cayden, pay attention!" When Cayden's eyes altered, Max shouted.
"Don't! They're both okay. Everyone is safe!"
"You... are you sure?" Cayden asked. His face had turned white.
Max nodded, expressing his relief in his voice.
"Yes, they're at the hospital for a check-up, but they'll be fine. Selena and the baby are both fine."
Cayden signed with relief.
Max let out a shaky breath, his tense shoulders relaxing slightly.
Thank goodness," Cayden whispered, grateful for the reassurance.
"It seems fishy; something isn't right," Cayden said, while looking down at his cell.
"Do you believe someone tampered with the car?" Max inquired.
He was agitated because Anna and Maya both lived among humans in their college.
Cayden glanced up from his phone, a worried expression crossing his face. "I'm not sure, but it's possible," he replied, his mind racing with the implications. "If someone tampered with the car, it could mean they were targeting the girls specifically." Max's eyes widened at the thought, realising the potential danger that his sisters could be in.
"That car was serviced recently; this should not have happened," Max mumbled. "What if someone was targeting Selena?"
Cayden looked startled.
That's a chilling thought," Cayden responded, his voice filled with concern.
"Or perhaps Jennifer?" Max added, "She was with them as well."
"Yeah, but they bumped into Dr. Colin at the mall, and Jennifer left with him."
"That doesn't mean she's safe," Max replied, his worry deepening. "We don't know who this person is or what their intentions are." Cayden nodded in agreement, his expression growing more serious. "We need to find out who could target them and why. Hawk is still in jail. Do you think he got it done through one of his minions?"
"But who? Everyone from his circle is dead or imprisoned," Max added.
"We'll talk about it later. Let's get the girls first." Cayden said, while grabbing his car keys.
