Unexpected Visitor
Aside from the beeping sounds from the monitors, the room lingers with silence. James's eyes narrowed and he repeated his question his voice shimmering with anger.
"What do you want here?" he almost yelled causing the officer at the door to open the door into the ward to find out what was happening.
"Is this man bothering you?" the officer asked.
"No, I am fine," Fiona replied and James rolled his eyes.
He was the one handcuffed to a bed and the officer was asking Fiona if she was okay. The officer exited the room after throwing James a warning look, closing the door behind him.
"We need to talk, James. It is very important," Fiona said resting her hands on the hospital bed footboard.
"What do you want? Am I not where you want me to be? So what do you want from me?" James questioned angrily.
"Can I ask you a question?" Fiona asked calmly, not at all bothered by James' unwelcome attitude.
James had bruises on his face and a plaster on his nose bridge but it didn't take away his handsome look. He stared at Fiona with an angry expression ignoring her.
"Did you mean any of the things you said to me back there in that uncompleted apartment?" Fiona asked and James frowned.
"You came all the way here to ask me such nonsense question. Why?" James asked surprised by her question but after angrily questioning her it dawned on him, that Fiona was in love with him, and if that was the case, he could use her.
"I am sorry for my outburst. Prison life getting to me," he quickly apologized and turned his gaze away from her.
"I understand," Fiona replied calmly.
"James, I never lied about my feelings for you and I am sorry for all that I did. I felt wrong by your action and your mother's humiliation. I lost my job and lost everything after that press conference. No one wanted to walk with me any more. I had to flee town because the media wouldn't let me be. I met a friend and told her everything that had happened she told me she would help me get justice and get my job back. I have a job now and I have money I can't fathom but I still can't find my joy. It didn't take me much thinking to figure my joy lie with you," Fiona confessed and James was surprised at her confession.
He wouldn't look at her twice if he was in her shoes and what he did to her was done to him.
"Is true what they say about love. Love is blind but this woman makes love seem retarded. This is why I will never fall in love. Love makes one stupid," James thought as he listened to Fiona confess with tears in her eyes.
"So what do you want?" James asked, soundly calm.
"Is there a chance you can forgive me and we can be together?" Fiona asked.
"Fiona, I have been with multiple women and I never loved anyone of them. You, I will agree moved me, but even if I want to give us a chance. I am state property now," James replied showing her his handcuff hand.
"What if I say, I can get you out of prison?" Fiona said moving from the foot of the bed to the side.
"Fiona, tell me. What happened? Why will you get me out of prison even if you could? Something I doubt," James asked curious about Fiona's motive.
"James, we have a," Fiona began and lowered her head and James stared at her in anticipation of what her reason was going to be.
"By we, you mean, you and I, or you are using some kind of slang here," James questioned anxiously.
"We have a child James. A daughter. I had her yesterday," Fiona said.
James stared at her for a minute and suddenly his facial expression changed and he burst out laughing surprising Fiona.
"I am not making the story up. I didn't even know I was pregnant until I had the baby yesterday, dawn," Fiona said sternly making James stop laughing.
"You are serious?" James questioned.
"Yes, I am serious. Here she is?" Fiona said and showed James a picture of the baby she took at the hospital.
"And if you have a baby, what is the proof that it is mine?" James asked.
"First, you were my first and the only man had been intimate with. Secondly, think about it, why would I want you, who is in prison to be the father of my child if she belongs to another man who is walking free?" Fiona asked and James saw her point.
"I don't want my child growing without her father. And I also don't want my child to find out his father is in prison," Fiona said. "I am here for the child and also because I still love you. I dreamt of us together as a family. We were so happy and I know we can make that dream come true," Fiona said and James could read the anxiousness in her eyes.
"The Wellingtons and the Hawards put me here. They are watching me. How do you intend to get me out of prison?" James asked.
"I have not figured that part out yet but I wanted to make sure you will accept the child and I figure that part out," Fiona replied.
"Get out?" James said to Fiona's shock.
"Why?" Fiona asked, her heart racing.
"You come here and tell me of a dream and you have no plan on how to execute it?" James said looking angry he realized Fiona's love for him felt like an obsession or desperation.
He was her first and it's understandable she doesn't want to be with another man or maybe she has not met anyone yet.
"I am sorry. I promise to figure something out. At least having them bring you to the hospital is proof of what I can do," Fiona said and James was surprised.
He had thought, it was an instruction from Jason and his father. He suddenly wondered if his thought was right and he was still under the protection of the Hawards.
"Wait, what do you know about the protection I have in the prison?" James asked.
"It was the first thing I did when Jason offered me a job at the Haward business where he was formerly working. I am there with Julia and your sister Mirenda. Peter, manages the hotel and Jason is managing the Wellington business," Fiona said. "I wrote that letter and got Mr Wellington to sign it. In that letter, I asked them to take good care of you and make sure no harm comes to you," Fiona confessed.
James suddenly realized why no one bothered him. He was the one picking the fight with them trying to join TP's Team. He had heard about prison life and he felt he needed the power to rule there so he would not be bullied.
"You did that for me?" James asked looking calm and surprised.
"Yes," Fiona replied while nodding.
"Come here," James said and Fiona sat on the edge of the bed.
James reached out for her and pulled her down capturing her lips in a kiss. Tears fell from Fiona's eyes. Despite everything that had happened, it appeared Fiona truly loved James and wished they could be together.
"Thank you, Fiona," James whispered to her after breaking the kiss.
"I love you," Fiona said and James smiled.
"There was something wrong with Fiona and he was going to use it to his advantage," James thought and wiped her tears with the back of his hand. "It was obvious he had her under his control. Now he needed to act fast before whatever it is that is happening to her fades away," James thought and kissed her again.
"About getting me out. I think I have a suggestion," James said pulling away from the kiss.
"Jason's biological mother is alive. News reaching me from a gossip had it that, Jason still doesn't know his mother is alive. This only means, her husband, Mr Wellington is keeping Jason away from his mother. I want you to confirm for me if this story is true. If it is, that will be my ticket out of prison and we can be together," James said with a smile and Fiona smiled back.
"I will try?" Fiona replied not sure how she was going to confirm such a story.
She did have some people she believed she could try her luck with on getting James released but that was a gamble.
"Don't worry you pretty head. Take this contact," James said and mentioned a number to Fiona and she quickly dialled the number on her phone. "He is called Black. A very good friend. Call him and tell him, I gave you his contact and put my request across. He will help you confirm if truly the rumour about Jason's mother being alive is true," James said and Fiona nodded.
"Okay. I have to go now. I will come visit again," Fiona said.
"Okay but make sure you are not been followed and no one knows what you are doing?" James warned and Fiona nodded.
He kissed James again before exiting the ward.
"I am one lucky man. Jason. Just wait for me, I will come for you soon," James said with a smile plastered on his face.
Fiona went out of the hospital and requested an Uber back to Southwest Ranches City. As soon as she arrived at the apartment, she went upstairs to her room and placed the call to the guy named Black.
"Hello, I am a friend of James. James Haward. He gave me your contact," Fiona said.
"Hmm, what do you need?" he asked.
"I need you to confirm if Jason Haward's mother is still alive?" Fiona requested.
"She is a Wellington and the Wellington's are difficult to investigate. I am not going to get on the bad side of the Wellington's. I can give you some tips so you do it yourself," Black replied.
"Name your price," Fiona said, desperation laced her voice.
"It's not about the money, ma'am. It is about......." Black began and Fiona's cut in.
"I am offering you three million dollars," Fiona said.
"Make it five and you got yourself a deal," Black replied.
"Done," Fiona said sounding determined.
"Give me two weeks," Black said.
"I don't have two weeks. I will give you one week," Fiona said.
"Are you James girl or something? You negotiate like him," Black said.
"I am his wife-to-be," Fiona replied.
"Alright. If you want a good work done. I'm gonna need the two weeks," Black said.
"Fine, two weeks," Fiona said and ended the call.
"Two weeks for what?" Vera's voice travelled to Fiona startling her.
