Fiona’s Strange Sickness
Fiona was the only one who didn't have a ride. She joined Mirenda when they were coming to Jason's place. She sat in the car to be dropped at Jason's old apartment. On the way home, Fiona started sweating and getting a temperature. She had been feeling odd the whole day even though she managed to pull through the day since it was Jason and Julia's big day.
“What is wrong?" Mirenda who was sitting next to Fiona asked with concern.
“I am not sure. It comes and goes. Most of the time around this time," Fiona replied and held her head in both hands as the pain got worse.
“Have you seen a doctor about it?" Mirenda asked wondering what was wrong with her.
“No, is nothing. It"s my time of the month," Fiona replied, her voice barely above a whisper but it was followed by a cry of pain.
“Peter, please take us to the hospital," Mirenda requested realizing Fiona didn't look good.
“I am fine. It's gone now," Fiona said and sat down properly as the pain went away and she felt okay all of a sudden.
“Are you sure?" Mirenda asked looking at her with concern.
“Yeah, I am fine. I am sorry for scaring both of you," Fiona apologized as she wiped the sweat with her handkerchief.
Mirenda decided not to insist seeing she was looking better. She understood some lady's menstrual cycle can be tough.
“Don't worry about that. What matters most is you are okay," Mirenda expressed and Fiona smiled.
Everyone dropped off in their various apartment. Mr Wellington called Dr Andesh to request for update on what she mentioned to him while they were at Jason's.
“So how did you end the conversation?" he asked.
“She requested some money to start a business and promised to stay away as you have requested," Dr Andesh informed him.
“Do you believe her?" Mr Wellington asked.
“I don't know but she sounded sincere," Dr Andesh replied.
“Fine, give her the amount she requested and take my third emergency account. Update the details to her name and give it to her. There is enough money to last her a lifetime. It is the least I can do for her," Mr Wellington said sounding sad.
“That is very generous of you but you know you can forgive her and take her back," Dr Andesh suggested.
“No, I can't. I can't forgive her for endangering the life of a nine-month-old baby," Mr Wellington said.
“I know it was cruel what she did but look at the bright side. Your son met a wonderful wife like Julia. Maybe it was meant to be that way. She made a mistake. A terrible one but let's look at the present, the gain of that mistake and forgive her," Dr Andesh advised.
“No, I am still mad at her for choosing money over our son's life. He could have died and nothing could have rewritten that. Julia lost her first child, got raped, and look at what was done to Jason when he was just a boy," Mr Wellington pointed out. "It is not easy to forgive. At least I am not leaving her penniless. She valued money more than her child's life. So I have given her what she valued. Jason must never know his mother is alive. Make sure of that," Mr Wellington said.
“Yes, sir," Dr Andesh acknowledged and the call ended.
Back at the Wellington's mansion, Julia was taking a shower while Jason tended to the baby. The baby was slowly dosing off to sleep as Jason rocked him in his arms.
“You are a natural father," Julia said upon entering the bedroom.
“Thank you, love," Jason acknowledged as he continued to rock the baby gently.
“My love, I like the baby's nest but I feel, he is far away from us. Is it okay if we bring the cot here?" Julia asked with a worried expression.
“Sure, that is fine. Here, have him, let me get the cot right away," Jason said and gave the baby to Julia.
“Thank you, my love," Julia appreciated and sat down on the bed carefully holding the baby in her arms.
Jason went out of the room and returned a few minutes later with the baby cot. He placed it next to the bed on his side. And took the baby from Julia's arms and carefully laid him on the cot. He went out and brought in the breastfeeding chair and positioned it closer to the baby's cot. He went out again and returned carrying a small bag.
“I brought some few things I feel you may need for the night," Jason said.
“Have you taken care of a baby before?" Julia asked, surprised Jason knew what to do and what to bring.
“I may seem like the middle child but I wasn't that young when Mirenda was born," he replied and the smile fell off his face.
Julia got closer and hugged him. "What is it my love,” she asked looking into his eyes.
“My stepmother was very weird from the beginning and it surprised me how we all never noticed how she treated us until later,” Jason mumbled.
“She didn't want me around Mirenda yet she always abandoned her to attend to James, who was a full-grown child. Mirenda will often be in the baby cot crying. I will rush to her side and put her feeding bottle to her lips. I was forced to learn a lot of things fast so I could take care of baby Mirenda. Mostly when she finds me, she will yell at me but that didn't stop me from learning about babies and what to do when baby Mirenda cries," Jason revealed.
“I am sorry my love. It also makes sense why you are the only one who could get to Mirenda. You were a mother to her," Julia pointed out and kissed Jason on the cheek.
“Yeah,” Jason acknowledged expressionless as he stared blankly at nothing as he recalled growing up with Mrs Haward as his mother.
“You still look tired. Let's go to bed," Jason said, snapping out of the moment and pulling Julia towards the bed.
“You have enough milk extracted for the child?" he enquired as they both climbed into bed.
“Yes, please," Julia replied with a smile.
“That is great. Leave the child to me and rest. I will take care of him," Jason said and kissed Julia lightly on the lips before pulling her into his arms.
“Thank you, my love," Julia said and laid her head on Jason's chest as sleep quickly took over her.
She was indeed very tired.
At Southwest Ranches City, where Fiona now resides. Fiona had just taken a shower and was about to climb into bed when she felt a sharp pain in her lower abdomen. She clutched her stomach falling to the floor right in front of the bed. She realizes she couldn't get up. She dragged herself to the bedside, fetched her phone and dialled Vera's number. She was the only person she felt she could share everything with and not get judged. She was now getting to know Jason, Mirenda and the rest and she also felt they had given her a job and a home, she couldn't bother them with her health issues too.
“Vera, please come over quick to Southwest Ranches City. I will send you the address. I am dying," Fiona reported as soon as Vera answered the call.
“Jason's apartment, I know the place. I will be there,” Vera said and hung up wondering what was wrong with Fiona as she didn't sound good on the phone.
Fiona lay flat on the floor as another pain hit her. She began to sweat again and her temperature started rising.
“Fiona! Fiona! Where are you," Vera screamed her name from the living room.
“Ah, heeereeeee,” Fiona screamed from the bedroom which used to be Julia"s as she dragged herself to the door.
Since the place was given to Fiona, she asked the servants to go with Mirenda as she felt she didn't need them so she was all alone in the huge building. Vera followed the sound of her voice and found her lying on the floor at the door.
“Fiona, I can't carry you. Try and work with me. I am going to lift you, please try and walk if not I will have to call the ambulance,” Vera said seeing the state Fiona was in and Fiona nodded.
Vera placed Fiona's hand around her shoulder and wrapping her hand around her waist she pulled her up. Fiona held the pain she felt when Vera's hand pressed against her belly in an attempt to help her off the ground. She managed to descend the staircase and they went out the front door into the elevator. Soon they were inside Vera's car driving towards the nearest hospital.
“Do you have any idea what is wrong with you?" Vera asked as she maneuver her way to the main road and heading for the nearest hospital.
“I don't know. It comes and goes but today it feels worse,” Fiona cried and let out a scream. "Feels like something is moving in my abdomen. I feel heavy suddenly around that side," she added.
“Oh, my God, it hurt so bad,” Fiona cried.
They soon made it to the hospital and Vera got out of the car stopping right at the reception screaming for help.
Some medical staff came out of the hospital and carried Fiona on a stretcher into the hospital.
“Do you have her stuff here," asked one of the medical staff.
“What! What stuff?" Vera asked confused.
“She is having a baby. Her water just broke," reported the medical staff and Vera shifted her gaze to Fiona who equally looked surprised but another pain hit her and she let out a scream.
She was quickly pushed into the emergency and a medical doctor attended to her. Vera paced up and down the waiting area trying to comprehend what the nurse had just said.
“Fiona, having a baby? How?" she asked herself.
Inside, the doctors, quickly prepare Fiona to have a baby.
“I am not pregnant," Fiona cried but let out a cry as another pain hit her.
“Don't worry, just push whatever it is you have there out," the doctor said realizing Fiona was clueless about her baby and Fiona just obeyed.
The doctor positioned Fiona and got ready to receive the baby. Fiona lay on the bed with a nurse standing by her holding a small towel which she used in cleaning Fiona's sweaty face.
"Alright, now push," the doctor said and Fiona pushed with all her might still wondering what she was pushing.
She still couldn't believe she was having a baby but her mind was also in chaos as the pain hit her.
In a couple of minutes, the cry of a healthy baby was heard to the shock of Fiona who lay on the bed tired but surprised.
“It's a girl," the doctor said and placed the crying baby on Fiona who was still in shock.
"I was pregnant?" Fiona whispered recovering from her tiredness.
The pain she was feeling reduced to a bearable one but she was tired.
The baby was sent away and Fiona was attended to before she was moved to a ward. Vera saw the doctor and approached him.
“What happened to my friend? She didn't know she was pregnant. How did that happen?" she questioned,
“It appears your friend had what will be called a cryptic pregnancy," the doctor replied.
“What is that?" Vera asked with a frown.
“In simple terms hidden pregnancy,” the doctor explained.
“She was getting her menses alright," Vera pointed out. “She reported minor illness and cramps. That is all," she added recalling some of the complaints Fiona shared with her.
“She was only getting light bleeding and what she thought was cramps was the fetus moving," the doctor explained and Vera looked at him shocked.
“They are both fine, you can see them," the doctor said with a smile and Vera went to the ward to see Fiona.
“How?" Vera asked as soon as she was by Fiona's bed.
“I don't know," Fiona replied honestly as she was also confused by how that happened.
“Please don't tell me James is the father,” Vera said recalling Fiona's intimate sessions with James while they were planning to trap him and tears fell from Fiona's eyes.
“He was the only one I was intimate with," Fiona said sadly. "Please don't let anyone know I had a baby," she pleaded holding Vera's hand and Vera raised an eyebrow.
“It's a fucking human being Fiona. How are you going to hide that and have you seen how you look? Like right now? Don't forget Julia has a baby. They can easily do a quick comparison," she reminded.
“Vera, please help me," Fiona pleaded feeling scared.
“What do you want me to do?" Vera asked in frustration.
“Take the baby with you. I will come over and feed her until I figure something out," Fiona said.
“But why are you afraid to tell them?" Vera asked realizing Fiona wanted to hide the baby from Jason and his family but Fiona went silent.
