The Chosen Luna: Alpha’s Unwanted Daughter

Chapter 731

Ch. 721 / 790 May 05, 2026

Bella’s condition worsened by the hour, and Kael could feel the weight of her fragility with every passing moment. He hadn’t left her side since she collapsed, his eyes never straying far from her pale, delicate form. Her breathing was shallow, her skin cool to the touch. The vibrant woman who had fought so fiercely for their bond was slipping away, and Kael could do nothing to stop it. Every time she stirred, he leaned closer, searching her face for any sign of life. But she seemed farther away with each breath.

The pack had rallied around them, offering support in every way they could. But none of them could offer the one thing Kael craved—an answer. He was desperate. Misery and Lira had both been doing everything in their power to keep Bella stable, yet the effects of her pregnancy continued to spiral out of control. Misery had been researching night and day, seeking any ancient remedies that might help. But the clock was ticking, and time was a luxury they no longer had.

Kael’s hands trembled as he held Bella’s, his thumb gently tracing the lines of her palm. His heart broke every time he saw the faint trace of fear in her eyes when she woke, only to fall back into unconsciousness, too weak to stay awake for long. It felt as though a piece of him was slipping away with her, and there was nothing he could do.

“Kael, we have to try something different,” Misery said, her voice low but filled with determination. She stepped into the room, her hands carrying a strange bundle of herbs and talismans. Her eyes, dark with worry, met Kael’s. She had been through her own battles with hybrid pregnancy, and the memory of her own struggles was never far from her mind. Misery had already lost so much. The idea of losing Bella too was unbearable.

Kael looked up at her, his exhaustion visible in the dark circles under his eyes. “I’ll do anything,” he said, his voice hoarse. “Please, Misery. You have to help her. We can’t lose her.”

Misery set down the bundle on the table next to Bella’s bed, her movements precise and steady. She knew this was a delicate procedure, one that came with its own set of risks. “I’ve been researching an ancient protective charm,” Misery explained, her voice heavy with the weight of the decision. “It’s a shield, something to protect Bella’s body from the strain of the baby’s rapid growth. But it’s not without consequences. The magic is unpredictable.”

Kael’s heart skipped a beat at her words. “Unpredictable? What do you mean?”

Misery looked at him with a mixture of sympathy and caution. “The charm may work, but there are no guarantees. It could stabilize her, or it could make things worse. It’s a double-edged sword.”

Kael clenched his fists at his sides, his eyes never leaving Bella’s form. He couldn’t bear the thought of losing her. But he also knew that time was running out. “We don’t have a choice, do we?” he said quietly.

Misery nodded. “No, we don’t.”

Without waiting for any further objections, she began preparing the charm. The air in the room seemed to thicken as she worked, the faint scent of herbs filling the space. Kael stood by Bella’s side, his fingers lightly brushing her cheek as he whispered soft words of encouragement to her. “Stay with me, Bella. Please.”

Bella’s eyelids fluttered open for a brief moment, and she looked up at him with a faint, tired smile. Her voice was barely a whisper. “I’m… I’m here,” she said, her voice weak and strained. “I’m not going anywhere.”

Tears stung Kael’s eyes, but he fought them back. He couldn’t let her see his fear. Not now. He kissed her forehead gently, his lips lingering against her skin. “I won’t let anything happen to you, Bella. I promise.”

Misery finished her preparations, her hands steady as she began to place the charm over Bella’s chest. It glowed faintly, a soft, ethereal light radiating from the talisman. As it touched Bella’s skin, the room seemed to hold its breath. Kael stood by, unable to tear his eyes away from the process.

But then, something went wrong.

Bella’s body twitched violently, her back arching as though she were in pain. Kael’s breath caught in his throat, and he rushed to her side, his hands shaking as he tried to calm her. “Bella! Bella, stay with me!” His voice was desperate, panic starting to seep into his words.

Misery stepped forward, her eyes wide with alarm. “It’s the magic,” she said, her voice urgent. “It’s reacting to the charm. We need to stabilize it, now!”

Before Kael could respond, a strange sound filled the room—a rapid, rhythmic thumping. It took Kael a moment to realize what it was. The baby’s heartbeat. But it wasn’t like any heartbeat he had ever heard. It was loud—unnaturally loud, echoing through the room like a drum. His eyes widened in horror as he looked down at Bella, her body still convulsing under the pressure of the magic.

“Kael…” Bella gasped, her eyes fluttering open, but her voice was weak. “It… hurts…”

Kael’s chest tightened at the sight of her pain. “Bella, I’m here. I’m here, and I won’t let anything happen to you.” His voice was frantic as he gently cradled her head, trying to comfort her as best as he could. But inside, he was drowning in fear. The charm had worked, but at what cost?

Misery was already moving, her fingers tracing the air in delicate patterns, trying to stabilize the magic. “The charm is affecting the child’s heartbeat,” she said, her voice strained with concentration. “It’s reacting to Bella’s body, and the magic is making things worse.”
