The days dragged on, each one feeling longer than the last as Bella and Kael waited, desperate for news from Eryon. The packhouse, once a place of joy and unity, now felt heavy with an air of uncertainty and fear. Bella stayed by Rosalie’s side, refusing to leave her daughter for even a moment. The tiny baby, once so full of life, was growing weaker by the hour. Her breaths were shallow, her cries faint and broken. It was a constant reminder of the dark magic that was slowly draining her life.
Kael remained by Bella’s side, his ever-watchful eyes never leaving Rosalie. He could see the pain in Bella’s eyes, and it tore him apart. The helplessness was suffocating. He had always been the protector, the one who could fight against anything and anyone, but now… now there was nothing he could do.
They had sent Eryon away with the hope that he could find a cure, but with every passing hour, that hope began to fade, replaced by a gnawing fear that they were running out of time.
Bella’s eyes flickered to Rosalie’s crib. Her daughter’s tiny chest rose and fell with each breath, but it was as though each one was a struggle. Bella could feel the bond between them—a powerful, unbreakable connection that tied them together. But recently, the bond felt… wrong. It was faint, weakened, and tainted by the dark magic that Esmera had unleashed.
Bella squeezed her eyes shut, her hand resting on her chest, trying to ignore the gnawing pain that settled in her heart. She had to stay strong. For Rosalie. For Kael. For all of them.
But as the days stretched on, it became harder to remain hopeful. Kael had grown quieter, his ever-present strength starting to crack. Bella could see it. His shoulders slumped, his brow furrowed in frustration and fear. He was wearing down, just as she was. And the weight of it all was becoming too much for both of them.
“I can’t do this,” Kael whispered one night as he stood at the window, staring out into the darkness. His voice was raw, filled with a mixture of exhaustion and grief. “I can’t stand seeing her like this.”
Bella crossed the room, her footsteps soft but deliberate. She placed a hand on his shoulder, her touch gentle but firm. “We’re not alone in this, Kael. We have each other. We have Rosalie. We’re going to get through this.”
Kael turned to face her, his eyes haunted. “I don’t know if we will, Bella. I don’t know if we can.”
The uncertainty in his voice twisted something deep inside Bella, a mix of fear and sorrow. She had always relied on Kael’s strength, on his unwavering resolve. But now, even he seemed unsure.
But Bella couldn’t afford to fall apart. Not now. Not when they were so close.
She crouched beside Rosalie’s crib, her fingers brushing lightly over the baby’s tiny hand. “I know you’re strong, my sweet girl,” Bella whispered softly. “You’re going to get better. We’re going to find a way.”
But deep down, she couldn’t shake the feeling that time was slipping away.
As night fell, Bella tried to sleep. But every time she closed her eyes, all she could see was the image of Rosalie—her baby, her precious daughter—fading away. The fear gnawed at her, making it impossible to rest. And as if the universe was conspiring to keep her awake, Bella began to feel it—the hybrid bond between her and Rosalie shifting, changing.
It was a faint sensation, a subtle ripple of pain that she could only feel when she was still, when she was quiet enough to listen. It was as though Rosalie was calling to her, reaching out with the last bit of strength she had left. Bella pressed a hand to her chest, trying to hold onto the connection. She could feel Rosalie’s pain, her fear. It was like a dark cloud hanging over her, smothering the bond, suffocating it.
Tears welled in Bella’s eyes as she whispered into the silence. “Please, my sweet girl. Please hold on.”
Suddenly, as though summoned by her thoughts, the dream began.
Bella was standing in a dark, cold room, the air thick with an ominous energy. A shadow moved in the corner of the room, and Bella turned toward it. Esmera.
The dark witch was standing there, holding Rosalie in her arms, the baby’s tiny body still and lifeless. Bella’s heart clenched in her chest, a cold wave of fear washing over her as she stepped forward.
“Esmera!” Bella’s voice rang out, but it felt muffled, as if the words were trapped behind an invisible barrier. “Give me my daughter!”
Esmera’s lips curled into a cruel smile, her eyes glinting with malicious delight. “You think you can protect her, Bella?” she asked, her voice dripping with mockery. “You can’t even protect yourself.”
Bella tried to move closer, but her legs felt heavy, as though she was trapped in quicksand. Every step she took felt like it took an eternity. And yet, Esmera’s smirk never faltered.
“You can’t protect her,” Esmera whispered, her voice soft but sharp, sending a shiver down Bella’s spine. “She’s mine now. Just like you will be soon.”
The dream shattered in an instant, and Bella woke with a start, gasping for breath. Her heart was racing, her body drenched in sweat. She sat up, her chest heaving, and instinctively reached for Rosalie’s crib. But the baby was still, her small form barely rising and falling with each breath.
