The Chosen Luna: Alpha’s Unwanted Daughter

Chapter 729

Ch. 719 / 790 May 05, 2026

The sharp pains in Bella’s abdomen had come without warning, a sudden, intense wave that had left her gasping for breath in the dark of the night. She had tried to call out, but the pain seemed to take the very air from her lungs, leaving her helpless. Kael had rushed to her side, his hands shaking as he tried to comfort her, but it was as if the world had shifted under their feet. For a moment, Bella thought she might lose herself to the pain.

But then, just as suddenly as it had come, the pain began to subside. The tightening in her body eased, and the sharpness in her abdomen faded into an ache, then nothing at all. Bella lay back against the pillows, trying to calm her breathing, her body trembling from the aftermath of the ordeal.

Kael, looking every bit as terrified as she felt, held her tightly in his arms. “Bella… are you okay?” His voice was strained, his grip on her tight as if he were afraid she might slip away. “What happened? Talk to me, please.”

Bella pressed her face into his chest, the familiar scent of him grounding her in the midst of the chaos. She could feel his heart pounding beneath her ear, matching the frantic rhythm of her own. She took a deep breath, trying to steady herself, but she couldn’t shake the feeling that something was terribly wrong.

“I’m fine now,” she whispered, even though she wasn’t sure she believed her own words. The pain had gone away, but the fear still lingered. It clung to her like a shadow, growing darker with each passing moment. “It just… it was sudden. I didn’t know what was happening.”

Kael’s hand moved to her stomach, his touch gentle, as if afraid to hurt her. “What’s happening to you, Bella? This isn’t normal.”

She swallowed hard, trying to push aside the terror rising in her chest. She didn’t have an answer, not one that would reassure him. “I don’t know. I’m scared, Kael. I feel like my body’s not my own anymore.”

Kael’s jaw clenched, his eyes dark with a mixture of fear and frustration. “We need answers. I can’t just sit here and watch you go through this. I’ll do whatever it takes to find a solution. I’ll get help. I’ll find a way.”

Bella wanted to tell him that she appreciated his determination, but she could see the toll it was taking on him. His every word was laced with panic, every glance at her filled with desperation. She could see it in his eyes—he was slipping closer to the edge, and it terrified her.

“I don’t want you to worry about me,” she murmured, reaching up to touch his face, her fingers trembling slightly. “I’m trying to stay strong. I’m not going to let this destroy me. Not now.”

Kael leaned into her touch, his expression softening, but only slightly. “I can’t lose you, Bella. I won’t. I’ll find a way to fix this. I swear it.”

She nodded, though doubt gnawed at her insides. Kael’s determination was unwavering, but there were no guarantees. The danger she was facing wasn’t something easily fixed by sheer willpower, no matter how much Kael loved her. But she couldn’t bring herself to voice her fears. Not yet. She wasn’t ready to tell him that the baby’s growth, its rapid expansion, was a ticking time bomb.

The next morning, Kael didn’t leave her side. His vigilance had only grown since the night’s incident, and Bella could see the stress etched on his face. He’d already sent word to their allies, reaching out to healers, doctors, and any contacts that might have information on hybrid pregnancies like hers. He was desperate, grasping at any possibility that could offer them hope.

Misery had arrived early that day, her face grim as she entered the room. She had been quiet all morning, her eyes scanning Bella with a clinical focus. Bella felt the weight of her gaze, the older woman’s concern thick, but there was nothing Bella could say that would make things better.

Kael was pacing the room, muttering under his breath as he made a list of possible solutions. His frustration was building, his anxiety becoming more pronounced with each passing hour. “We need answers. Where are they? Why aren’t they here yet?” he snapped, looking at Misery as if she were the one holding all the answers.

Misery didn’t flinch at his outburst. Instead, she studied Bella carefully, her expression hardened. “I’ve been researching,” she said, her voice steady but laced with concern. “The baby’s growth is accelerating at an alarming rate. This is something we’ve seen before, but never to this extent. If we don’t slow it down, the strain on Bella’s body will be too much.”

Kael’s pacing halted, and he turned to Misery with wide eyes. “What do you mean, too much? What are you saying?”

Misery sighed, her shoulders heavy with the weight of the truth she had to deliver. “I’m saying that if we can’t slow the baby’s growth, Bella won’t survive the birth. The hybrid bloodlines are powerful, but they don’t mix easily. The child is growing too quickly, and Bella’s body isn’t able to keep up. If we don’t find a way to stabilize the pregnancy, the baby could rip her apart from the inside out.”

Bella felt the blood drain from her face. The words hit her like a physical blow, and for a moment, the world seemed to tilt. She reached out, steadying herself against the bedpost as the room swam around her. Kael’s face was a mask of disbelief and horror, and he took a step toward her, his hand trembling as it rested on her shoulder.

“No,” Kael whispered, his voice hoarse. “No, that’s not going to happen. I won’t let it.”

Misery shook her head, her expression softening. “You don’t understand, Kael. We’re running out of time. We have to make a decision, and fast.”

Kael’s eyes blazed with determination, but Bella could see the panic beginning to rise within him. She took a deep breath, pushing through the fear that threatened to consume her.

“I’ll do whatever it takes,” she said, her voice steady despite the storm raging inside her. “We need to save the baby. I won’t let it destroy me, but I won’t give up on this child either.”

Misery nodded, her eyes filled with sympathy, but there was no easy answer. Bella could see it in her gaze—the unspoken truth that they were running out of options.
