The Chosen Luna: Alpha’s Unwanted Daughter

Chapter 740

Ch. 730 / 790 May 05, 2026

The air in the room grew thick with tension as the figure in the doorway loomed like a shadow over Kael, Bella, and the others. Kael’s grip on Bella tightened, his body instinctively positioning itself between her and the source of his mounting fury. His eyes never left Xavier, but it was the voice that followed that made his blood run cold.

A cold laugh echoed through the packhouse, dripping with contempt. It was a voice Kael hadn’t heard in what felt like an eternity, yet it was as unmistakable as the night was dark.

Esmera.

She stepped into the room with a grace that made her presence feel like a venomous storm, her every movement deliberate and full of arrogance. Her eyes gleamed with a dangerous light, and the smirk that spread across her face was one that Kael had come to recognize as nothing but trouble.

“You’ve really fallen this far, Kael,” she sneered, her voice like poison. “Still clinging to this pathetic hope. Still trying to play the hero. How laughable.”

Kael’s body tensed, but he didn’t speak. The very sight of her was enough to stir the dark memories of their previous encounters—the betrayals, the manipulation, the pain she had caused. His pulse quickened, and he felt a rush of adrenaline coursing through his veins. He wasn’t about to let her take Bella or their future.

Bella, still pale and weak in Kael’s arms, stiffened at the sound of Esmera’s voice. She instinctively sought to draw closer to Kael, though the energy in the room was suffocating, her mind still hazy with the remnants of pain.

Esmera’s cold gaze flicked to Bella, her lips curling into a cruel smile. “And look at you. Weak. Vulnerable. You were never meant to survive this, Bella. You were never supposed to be Kael’s. All of this was always going to be a twisted fantasy, a dream that was never going to come true.”

Kael’s eyes flashed with anger, and he took a step forward, his hand on Bella protectively. “You’ve caused enough damage, Esmera. What do you want?”

Esmera’s expression twisted into something more smug, more dangerous. “What do I want? Oh, Kael. I’ve always wanted the same thing: power. Control. To see you all crumble beneath me.”

Misery and Lira stepped forward, their presence a silent warning, their eyes narrowing as they sized up the woman who had brought so much destruction into their lives. Misery’s sharp gaze bore into Esmera, a warning that had always been present between them. Lira’s fists were clenched at her sides, her body coiled and ready for action.

But Esmera merely waved them off with a dismissive flick of her hand. “You think you can stop me?” Her voice dripped with venom as she turned her eyes back to Kael. “You think I’m the same weak woman you once knew? How amusing.”

A sickening sense of dread twisted in Kael’s gut. He could feel the shift in the air, the oppressive weight of Esmera’s newfound confidence. Something was different about her—stronger, more dangerous than before. He had always known she was a threat, but now… now she was something else entirely.

“What have you done?” Kael demanded, his voice cold and hard. “How are you even here?”

Esmera’s smirk widened, the darkness in her eyes impossible to ignore. “I’ve learned. I’ve gained more power than you could ever understand, Kael. You were always so desperate to stop me, but you didn’t realize that I was always one step ahead. I’ve been watching, waiting… and now, I’m here to finish what I started.”

Kael’s heart skipped a beat as the weight of her words hit him like a blow. Finish what she started. Was she referring to their past battles? Was she planning something far worse? His mind raced, his thoughts desperately trying to piece together what she had truly become. He had thought she was defeated, broken after their last encounter, but now it seemed she was a new force altogether.

Bella’s eyes fluttered, her body trembling as she tried to sit up, sensing the overwhelming energy Esmera radiated. She still didn’t have the strength to stand, but the protective instincts within her stirred. She had to fight, even if her body was telling her to rest.

Esmera’s gaze flickered over Bella again, and the malicious smile never left her lips. “You think you can stand against me, Bella? With your power, your fragile little hybrid heart? You were never meant to survive the pregnancy, and now… now you’re a ticking time bomb. How poetic.”

Bella flinched, her body seizing as she tried to process the words. She had known that her pregnancy carried risks, but hearing Esmera’s taunting words twisted the knife further. Kael could feel her body shaking beside him, and it made his anger flare.

Esmera turned her attention back to Kael, the tension between them thick. “You’ve always fought so hard for what you thought was yours. But in the end, Kael, everything you’ve built will fall. And I will be the one standing at the end of it all.”

Kael’s breath was steady, but his eyes burned with determination. “Not while I’m still breathing.”

Misery and Lira were still at the ready, prepared to defend their pack and their Luna, but Kael raised a hand to halt them. He needed to understand what Esmera had done to herself—what had given her this new power. He could feel the weight of his choices, the sense that everything was about to change in ways they couldn’t control.

Esmera’s laugh was low, dark, and full of venom. “You should be careful what you wish for, Kael. You may just find that I’m exactly what you’re not prepared for.”
