The Chosen Luna: Alpha’s Unwanted Daughter

Chapter 719

Ch. 709 / 790 May 05, 2026

Kael had noticed the subtle shifts in Bella—tiny glimmers of recognition, small, fleeting moments when the walls she had built around herself seemed to crumble just a little. Her smiles were less forced, her eyes more open, though still guarded. She was beginning to find her way back to him, piece by delicate piece. And that gave him hope—hope that, despite all the pain and confusion, Bella would remember their bond. She would remember him.

He watched her from a distance as she stood near the window of the packhouse, staring out into the darkening forest. Her posture was still tense, but there was something different in the way she held herself now—less like someone carrying a burden, more like someone coming home. It was a small change, but to Kael, it felt monumental.

After all the time he had spent waiting—waiting for her to remember, for her to feel something—he was beginning to believe that maybe, just maybe, she could get there again. He had tried everything—patience, tenderness, and even anger at times, when the pain of being apart from her became too much. But nothing had worked. It had always been up to Bella. And now, it seemed, she was finally starting to make her way back to him.

“Bella?” Kael’s voice was soft but full of hope as he approached her.

She turned toward him, her gaze meeting his. There was still hesitation in her eyes, but this time, there was something else too—a flicker of recognition. It wasn’t much, but it was enough to make Kael’s heart race. He took a tentative step forward.

“I… I’m sorry,” Bella said, her voice unsteady, as if unsure of how to continue. “I know I’ve been distant.”

Kael shook his head, his smile reassuring. “You don’t have to apologize. I just want you to know that I’m here. For you. Whatever you need.”

Her gaze softened, and for a moment, Kael thought he saw something vulnerable in her eyes. Something he hadn’t seen in a long time.

“I don’t know what’s happening to me,” Bella admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. “It’s like I’m losing myself, Kael. I don’t even know who I am anymore.”

“You’re not losing yourself,” Kael said quickly, stepping closer, his voice filled with conviction. “You’re finding yourself again. And I’ll be here every step of the way. We’ll find our way back to each other.”

Bella looked at him, her expression torn between doubt and longing. There was a war inside her, Kael could see it. She was trying to reconcile the woman she had been with the woman she was now. He could only hope that, in time, she would see that they were the same woman. That she would remember who she had been with him—before everything had changed.

Avalon watched the exchange from the doorway, her dark eyes carefully studying the scene unfolding between Kael and Bella. She had always known it would come to this—that, eventually, Kael’s devotion would wear Bella down, would break through the walls she had built around her heart. It was inevitable. After all, Kael was relentless in his love for her. But there was also a quiet part of Avalon that wondered if she had been too focused on helping Bella rediscover herself and not enough on understanding her own feelings.

She had come to the packhouse with the intention of offering Bella guidance, of helping her come to terms with her dual nature. But she had also known, from the very beginning, that her presence here was temporary. Bella’s healing process had already reached a point where Avalon could sense her role was no longer necessary. Kael’s patience, his love, and his determination to see Bella through this would be what ultimately brought her back. Avalon’s time had come to an end.

With a sigh, Avalon walked quietly to the main hallway, where she found Kael again, still standing near the door. His back was turned, but Avalon knew he could sense her presence.

“You’re leaving,” Kael said without turning around, his voice low, as if he had already known the truth.

Avalon nodded, her expression unreadable. “It’s time, Kael. Bella is finding her way, and I’m no longer needed here. She’s starting to remember, in her own way. You’re the one who can help her now.”

Kael turned to face her, his eyes serious, though there was a flicker of understanding in them. “I don’t know how to thank you for everything you’ve done for her.”

“You don’t need to,” Avalon said quietly. “You’re her home, Kael. You always have been. I could never take that from you.”

Kael’s gaze softened as he met Avalon’s eyes, and for a brief moment, something passed between them—a shared understanding. Avalon had given him a chance to fight for Bella, and for that, he would always be grateful.

Avalon stepped closer, her voice almost a whisper now. “I admire you, Kael. Your devotion to her—it’s rare. I’ve never seen someone fight so hard for someone else. It’s something I wish I could have.”

Kael’s eyes lingered on Avalon, but before he could respond, the sound of footsteps interrupted them. Bella had appeared in the hallway, her eyes catching the exchange between the two of them.

Avalon quickly turned away, but not before Bella had caught a glimpse of her expression. Avalon’s words hung in the air, and Bella’s heart sank at the unspoken weight behind them. She couldn’t quite place it, but something about the way Avalon had spoken—so soft, so sincere—bothered her. She didn’t understand it, but it was there. The knot in her chest grew tighter as she listened to the quiet exchange between them.

Avalon looked back at her, offering a brief, almost wistful smile, before turning toward the door.

Bella stood frozen, her mind racing. She had heard Avalon’s confession, but she hadn’t heard Kael’s response. She could only stand there, unsure of what to do with the emotions swirling inside her. A sense of uncertainty lingered in the air, and Bella couldn’t shake the feeling that something was changing. Something she hadn’t fully understood yet.

But as she watched Avalon leave, Bella couldn’t help but wonder: What exactly was Avalon’s place in all of this?
