When we made it to the Blue Moon Pack it was pure chaos. There were warriors and pack members scattered to all corners of the pack. We made it to the center where Zack was giving out orders. He noticed us and waved us over when an explosion came out of nowhere.
“Ralph, check out that explosion and take someone to help with survivors. Bronx, we have to get ahead of these bombs. Let’s get this under control, now people!” Zack was yelling out commands left and right while I surveyed the mess.
There were people running around dealing with fires spreading around the pack while others attended to scared pack members. There were makeshift tents spread with injured members going in. Made me wonder how many people were in their hospital.
I sent a silent prayer to the Goddess to protect my pack. I was worried about leaving them without their Alpha but I knew Jace and Chris could handle it.
“What can we do,” I asked, ready to get to action.
“We need to get rid of these rogues. They’re planting bom-”
An explosion went off a few houses away from us. I recovered quickly and noticed a few rogues running towards the other houses. I jumped into action with Isabella and my father on my tail. I quickly shifted to Devon and followed the rogues.
We need to stop them from bombing the houses. Everyone, spread out and get rid of those bombs.
Yes Alpha! They all said and split off.
I was able to catch up to one of them as he was planting another bomb on the side of the house. He saw me and ran towards the woods which was perfect. Devon quickly picked up the bomb and flung it towards the rogue. An explosion went off quickly pushing us back and raining pieces of wood. I got to see no trace of the rogue hoping it was caught in the blast.
I turned around just as I felt someone jump on my back. The rogue snapped at the back of my neck as I jumped around to get him off. I threw my body against the house with enough pressure to hear bones crack.
The rogue fell to the ground but I didn't give it time to recover. Devon clamped the rogue’s neck with his teeth and in one motion yanked a chunk of flesh away from his body. The rogue instantly fell to the ground transforming back into a lifeless human body.
There was another explosion behind me. I made my way towards it when I saw three rogues running towards me. Devon braced for an attack as they got closer.
One at a time I told Devon.
I got this, he said, running towards the closest rogue.
Before they had a chance to get close, a blue wolf attacked one from the side. Without stopping Devon tackled the other rogue slamming him against a car. Before Devon could grab his neck another rogue jumped on his back, biting into his flesh.
Devon growled and rolled on the ground to try to get the rogue off. He was able to dig his claw into the side of the rogue body and threw him a few feet away.
Before the rogue had a chance to get his footing, Devon pounced on him, swiping him across the face. The rogue tried to snap at his arm but Devon moved to the left and clamped down on his neck.
In one movement he clamped down until he heard the satisfying snap. Devon turned, seeing another rogue lounging for him just to get hit by a fireball. A warlock floated down while sending a flaming glyph towards the rogue burning it to a crisp.
I had that, Devon growled.
Hey, he's on our team. That’s what matters.
The blue wolf and the warlock made their way over to me. The wolf cocked his head in the direction he wanted me to follow. We made our way to the center of the pack where Zack was addressing the others. We all shifted and were handed some clothes.
“That might be all of them. Bronx, take some warriors and do a quick sweep,” Zack ordered. “We need to focus on the wounded and getting control of these fires. Get a group or members to help get rid of any rogue bodies.” His warriors disperse to handle the tasks with my father following Bronx. He was still hyped from the battle.
Zack walked up to the guy who shifted from the blue wolf. “James, so glad you came.”
James gave Zack a hug. They must have been old friends but something about him felt familiar. The power from him didn’t say ‘Alpha’ but I could tell he was strong. James sounded familiar. Where did I hear that name?
“Friends from the bar,” I asked Zack.
“Yeah. They came for Mirja, I think. She’s my…”
He hesitated while looking at me as if trying to figure out if he should tell me who this person was. I never met anyone with that name so the hesitation bothered me.
“Should I know who this person is?”
“No, it just…I rather certain people don’t know. Certain people who are close to you.”
“Alaia?” James said at the same time as me.
I looked at James again. How does he know Alaia? He saw me glaring at him when he said Alaia’s name.
“You must be Alpha Isaiah. I’m James. I’ve heard a lot about you from my cousin Victoria.”
He extended his hand and I looked at it before looking back at him. There was something about him I couldn’t shake. James? Why couldn’t I remember that name? Then it came to me.
James was the boy Alaia was in love with. He was the one that tried to kill her. He was Zack’s Beta before he was banished. Then why was he back here? It wasn’t for Alaia right? A growl escaped my lips and James took a step back. Zack stepped in between us.
“He’s my guest, Alpha Isaiah. He means no harm to anyone here.”
Of course I knew that but Devon wasn’t backing down. His eyes were locked with James who was trying his best to look everywhere else. The thought of anyone trying to hurt our mate regardless of time rubbed him the wrong way. Isabella was trying to talk to me but I was more focused on Devon.
Relax. It was in the past, Devon. Let it go.
I snapped at him. Sometimes having a possessive wolf could be a pain especially when they’re so emotional. Isabella touched my shoulder, distracting me for a second
Why are you being so rude Isabella asked.
Isabella stepped forward and pulled James into a hug. James looked a bit surprised by it but recovered quickly.
“Victoria talks about you all the time. Could make a girl like me very jealous if I didn’t know who you were,” Isabella laughed, trying to diffuse the awkward tension.
James laughed a bit. “I could say the same about you. Bella this, Bella that. I’m surprised she knows anyone else.”
I didn’t want to have a conversation with him. I didn’t want him touching my sister. Again Devon’s irritation with him was affecting me. I cleared my throat to get Zack’s attention. I needed to finish up here and get back to Alaia, to my pack.
“Who is she,” I asked, getting back to the person the rogues were after.
It might be connected to why they were after Zira. Though I don't think Zira knows many people outside the pack. Could it be someone from her childhood? Zack hesitated again.
“You can tell us, Alpha Zack. It won't leave this circle,” Isabella stepped up.
“Not out here.”
Isabella, Hunter, James, the two warlocks, George and Harry, followed Zack as he led us to a tent. He walked over to a bed where a woman was asleep. He took a towel and wiped her face before sitting next to her. He noticed me looking around and told me the pack house was damaged in an explosion.
Whoever was coming after this girl didn't care about the innocents they were hurting. This fight felt a little close to home. I was itching to leave. Something felt off.
“And what does this Mirja have to do with everything,” I asked Zack.
“Well first off, she’s my mate,” he said, grabbing her hand in his. “Second, I think Alaia did this to her.”
He said those words looking back at me. It took a minute before those words registered in my mind and I could feel Devon coming to the surface.
