I stood there facing the door, rubbing my poor ear. Man did she have a strong grip. My hands were sweating and my body was still tingling from her touch. My feet were rooted to the floor, refusing to leave or it could have been Deacon. Her little stunt excited him even more. Horny bastard!
Though I didn't blame him. Her scent was overpowering and it was a struggle to keep it out. I knew this was going to be hard but she was driving me crazy. I wanted to be near her, I wanted to keep touching her, but of course Deacon made it worse.
At least I was brave enough to go after what I wanted. Can’t say the same for you Deacon growled.
Yeah and look at where it got us.
Deacon huffed at me and disappeared. I leaned my head against the door, closed my eyes, and took a deep breath. Her scent filled me up like before until I exhaled and walked away. Staying here only made me want to break down this door and have my way with her.
I laid on my bed with my eyes closed, still trying to calm my heartbeat. For some reason, it didn't feel as comfortable as it usually did. Not as soft as Zira’s skin. A memory of my hand caressing her arm which was still wet from the shower displayed in the back of my mind. So much for my heart rate going down.
I sat up in bed, shaking away the thoughts. I really didn’t think it was going to be this tough, especially with me being focused on Maria and getting her back. If I could get her back.
I could really use some guidance right now. I begged the Moon Goddess.
Just then, the side door of my room opened and Zira walked through. I forgot to mention to her the rooms were conjoined. I sat there, looking at her with my mouth open. She looked around confused for a moment before her eyes landed on me.
“You’ve got to be kidding me? Please tell me this is a random room you just happen to be in.”
My mouth was too dry to speak. I tried clearing it to say something but she just groaned and mumbled about finding a closet. Then she went back to her room, slamming the door in the process. Good thing these doors are reinforced.
Well, I think you have your answer Deacon joked.
I didn’t respond. I didn’t have anything to say. It could’ve been a coincidence with her walking at the moment I asked for a sign. Right? No! I have to wait. If Zira is truly the person I had to help to get what I most desired, I have to be patient.
Patience is a virtue and it’s not a lie. It’s been a month and I’ve heard nothing from the Goddess. There was no sign of Maria coming back, not that I was thinking about her that much.
Having Zira so close to me in the next room was driving me insane. We’ve spoken a little since that day Deacon pinned her back against the wall. I’ve been keeping my distance, hoping she would initiate the conversation. All I got was the normal “Hey” before she quickly passed me in the hall. More and more I would find myself trying to bump into her.
I would see her talking to some of the pack members. At the beginning, she was guarded and cautious, but it didn’t take long for Trixie to break down that wall a bit. Now she was smiling and joking with anyone she came in contact with.
Her laughter could fill an entire room and everyone would disappear except for her. It was hard watching the way she acted with the others. With such ease as if she lived here for a while. I wish it was me she was smiling and laughing with.
I couldn’t help but admire her from afar. With admiration turning into something more as the days went by. Something I was trying to steer clear of.
So I busy myself with gathering supplies for Zack’s pack and trying to help Isabella with waking up Victoria. It felt weird going back to the pack that was under a Luna that tried to kill my mate. Luckily, Alaia didn't come across my path.
After her miscarriage, she’s been keeping herself locked away since. Every time I tried to muster up sympathy, my thoughts went to Zira and how Alaia tried to kill her and her son. I still haven’t told Zira that I knew who tried to kill her. I figure one day I will, as soon as she gets strong enough, which apparently is going to be very soon.
In between caring for Zacharias, she would find time to work out. I would find myself staring at her as she went about the pack. At times, she would catch me staring with a playful smile on her lips, as if she could tell what I was thinking. I’m not a stalker or anything. I just want to make sure she doesn’t push herself too far. She has been through a lot and building her strength won’t be easy, but she knows it.
Everyday I hear her leave for a run in the middle of the night. I usually sneak next door to watch Zacharias while she’s gone. Unlike human children, werewolf children grow much faster. They grow 5 times faster than humans, but slow down when they get to the size of a toddler. From there, they age normally. So it wasn’t a surprise to see Zacharias getting bigger this past month.
Even though he wasn’t mine by blood, I still felt connected to him. He would look at me and smile as if he was so happy to see me every time and I’m always blown away. I imagined this is how I would feel if I had the chance to meet my son. I knew from that moment I would do anything to protect him. Anything to protect both of them.
The moment her scent got closer, I had to hurry and leave. She must have been getting used to his sleeping and eating schedule. The moment she returned, Zacharias would start to fuss and she would be ready to feed him. She's so amazing with him.
Told you that from the start, numb-nuts. Deacon would remind me when I thought of her.
At times I would get frustrated with myself for all the creeping around. I could only do it for so long before Deacon started to whine. So I would go for a run to cool off and, so far, that’s been the ticket. Though each passing day is worse than the last. I have to do something about this before it gets worse.
