The moment I left the room, I went to Alaia’s office . There was a wolf standing guard. I was glad it wasn’t Jace or Chris. He was a young one so convincing him to let me through might prove easy. Walking closer to him I got an overwhelming stench of sex in the air. I almost gagged at the smell.
He noticed my face and started to sniff himself. “Is it that bad,” he asked me.
“If the Alpha comes back with you smelling like that he might get the wrong idea and…” I made the cut throat motion and watched the young wolf turn pale. “Don’t worry. I’ll watch your post. Just make it quick.”
The young wolf hightailed it out of there. As soon as he turned the corner I tried the door to Alaia’s office and the door opened. I was surprised it wasn’t locked after what happened with Mary earlier.
I knocked on the door as I opened it, calling out for Alaia but it was empty. I quickly went over to her desk to look for anything I could use against her but the drawers were locked. That’s when something outside caught my eye.
The moon was shining enough for me to see Alaia outside on the porch. She was acting strange looking over her shoulders as she walked towards the woods.
I ran outside to quietly follow her. Her clothes were dark but luckily my wolf eyes could see very well. Then all of a sudden, she disappeared into thin air. Her scent was still in the air at least enough for me to follow.
Halfway through the woods, I started to lose Alaia’s scent. I guess that disappeared into thin air too. I changed into my wolf, Rae, but even she lost the scent as well. It felt like a dead end so I headed back to the packhouse.
Walking up the front porch steps I realized my phone was gone. I decided to go back for it after I checked on Zira. When I got to her room nobody answered, so I peeked in and noticed it was empty.
Now I wish I had my phone. The door opened and I thought it was Zira but instead Mary walked in with a plate of food. She sat it on the coffee table before noticing me standing by the bed.
“Oh, hey Victoria. Where did Zira go,” she asked me.
“I was about to ask you the same thing.”
Mary looked at me confused. “Well, I left her here. After she got that text from you saying that you’re okay she got a bit peckish and asked me to make something for her.”
“Mary, I didn't text her. I lost my phone,” I said as it both donned on us.
“We have to find her.” We said at the same time.
We separated and started checking every room, closet, common area in the entire packhouse. We both came up empty. It wasn’t until we came upon one Omega talking about her jewelry collection. Omega Lisa.
“And I got this,” Lisa said, pointing to a diamond bracelet , “when I poured a little something in someone’s hot chocolate.”
The girls around her marveled at the earrings she was showing off.
“What was this something and who was this someone,” I asked as I walked into the room.
Most of the girls moved behind Lisa who stood her ground proudly. Lisa always thought of herself to be above everyone so she was probably enjoying her little power play but I didn't have time for this show. I glared at every girl behind Lisa and one by one they slither out of the room. Lisa’s little show of power didn't hold without her little entourage.
“You’re going to tell me where Zira is,” I growled at Lisa. “Or that bracelet is going to find itself in a place where the sun doesn't shine and I heard diamonds are a rough cut.”
I could visibly see her swallow her fear as she looked back and forth between Mary and me. I was surprised Mary was still here.
“I have nothing to say to you,” Lisa said. “If Alaia finds out-”
“Alaia isn’t here and it would be your word against mine. Do you really think Isabella would let anything happen to me,” I said while taking steps to close the distance between us. Mary mirrored my steps which made Lisa lose whatever power she thought she had.
“I…I…I…don’t know where she took her,” Lisa sputtered out.
“She’s lying,” Mary said but I could already tell by the beat of her heart.
“What would you know you little worthless Om-”
Before Lisa could finish her words Mary had her up against the counter with a knife to her throat. It completely took me by surprise.
“Mary…”I said in a calm voice but her focus was completely on Lisa.
“You don’t scare me anymore Omega Lisa,” Mary gritted with an emphasis on “Omega”. “I think the world might just be better without you in it. The only thing keeping me from slitting your throat is the fact that you know where my friend is.”
Lisa’s eyes went wild. She looked at me as if to ask for help. I shrugged my shoulders, crossed my arms and smiled. I was proud of Mary for standing up for Zira and for herself.
Omegas aren’t known for their strength but if you put them in the right situation it could change. When Lisa noticed I wouldn’t be much help her gaze went back to Mary.
“What’s going to stop you if I do tell you,” Lisa asked.
“Finding Zira is more important than slitting your throat. I can do that anytime. So let’s say if you tell us where she is it will give your throat a break,” Mary said in a more cheerful tone. “And we’re not patient.”
That was all Mary had to say before Lisa spilled the plans or at least what information she was privy to. Alaia stole my phone and texted Zira to meet her at the spot. The spot with the view. I didn't understand what that meant but Mary did and that’s all we needed.
“I have to find her like now,” I said, walking out the room right when Mary turned and landed a single blow across Lisa’s face. She knocked her out cold. Mary turned back to me. Second time she has shocked me.
“In case she tries to snitch before we make it,” Mary said while massaging her hand.
“Where did you learn that?”
“Books. It’s not that hard when you learn the basics. Power from the hips. I just didn’t think it would hurt like this,” Mary said with a laugh. “Now we have to go.” Mary started telling me how to find the spot when we heard…
“What the hell is going on here?”
We both turned towards the voice. Luna Bella stood horrified in front of us. I didn't have the time to try to explain this. I had to find Zira fast, especially if Alaia went through all this to make things happen.
“Mary, I trust you can get her up to speed. I have to find Zira,” I said, moving for the front door. Luna Bella grabbed my arm on the way out.
“If this has something to do with Zira, I want to know. She is carrying my grandson.”
“Luna Bella please. This could be dangerous and-”
“I don’t care. I’m going with you,” she persisted.
“You might not think it but if anything happens to you, Isabella would not forgive me. I won't be able to forgive myself.”
Luna Bella dismissed what I said with the wave of her hand. It was a bit unnerving and I didn't really have the time to argue with her. I was contemplating on knocking her out.
We can do it. Bella would understand Rae suggested.
"You don't owe me anything, Vic-"
"I do! Without you I wouldn't have Isabella and if something happens to you because of me, then I will lose her. So you're staying."
Luna Bella looked at me as if no one had ever told her what to do. She stepped back to compose herself.
“I said I’m goi-Ow! What the-” Luna Bella started before touching her arm and slumping down on the wall.
I panicked until I noticed Mary standing behind her with a needle. She looked a bit unsure of herself which is valid since she just assaulted the Luna. This girl had way too many secrets. I was surprised to know she kept things like this on her person but I’m glad for it.
I was more down the route of knocking Luna Bella out myself if it came to it. This way felt a little less personal and highly effective. It took a second but Mary understood what was done.
She looked at me as if to say go and I nodded before leaving out the door. I shifted into Rae to try to get through the forest quickly using Mary’s clues.
I felt the need to hurry. I felt Zira was already in danger. I realized I was getting close when I picked up Zira’s scent. It was faint but enough to bring me all the way. When I made it to the clearing, I could make out a figure near the edge, leaning over someone else on the ground. Was I too late?
