There was a chill roaming through the forest air and the half moon gave enough light to pierce through the surrounding darkness. Words couldn’t express what I was feeling right now.
“All I’m saying son is there’s going to be a white wolf in our lineage again. There is no way he or she is not going to be Alpha.” Alpha’s Jack words played in the back of my mind as I watched Zira struggle at the edge. “Not just a plain Alpha wolf but an Alpha with powers like the Goddess. This is a blessing and you will waste it giving the position to anybody else.”
I guess now that position is going to be up for grabs, grandpa, and you’re just going to have to get on board. White wolf or not, my child will not be denied the throne and no one will get in her way. I pushed her over the edge and was disappointed that she didn’t scream. Didn’t matter.
I could barely contain my excitement as I watched Zira quickly disappear through the fog created by the waterfall. This was what I wanted. What I’ve been hoping for a while now. My little bug was squashed and out of my way for good.
I wonder how long the drop was. Would she be able to live through it? It didn’t matter. If the drop didn't do it, then the raging, cold water will finish her off. There was no way she could survive both the fall and the river. Neither one would be pleasant.
“I can’t believe she’s gone,” I said through labored breaths. “We did it. We actually did it.”
I looked at Isaiah’s face. It looked so real but the green eyes were different. Magic isn’t perfect. There was always a flaw of some kind. His eyes reminded me of someone. Someone I fell in love with many years ago. James.
They weren't as piercing green as James but it was enough to make thoughts of him swirl inside my head. James. My James. Of course I think of him now when my chances of seeing him were nonexistent. Though having him here with me would’ve been perfect.
I still remember him like it was yesterday. His freckled face, bright green eyes, a dashing smile, and his shaggy ginger hair falling over his eyes. I wasn’t sure if it was because of my happiness or if I was delirious from the pain but that’s who I envisioned in front of me. I couldn’t help but pull Isaiah into a kiss. He leaned in to deepen the kiss and I didn’t stop him.
At this moment I knew Isaiah would be feeling this and I didn’t care. I needed to share this moment with someone. Even if that person was someone like Nas.
Our kiss was suddenly interrupted by howls that sounded closer than before. I forgot they were coming. I pulled back and realized Isaiah was gone. Nas stood in his place.
“The magic, it’s gone,” I said to him.
“You can portaled me out right? Or give me one of those ball thingy?”
I tried to portal him away but nothing happened. Instead I felt a terrible pain in my stomach and fell to my knees. Nas helped me back to my feet. I tried to open a portal again and another wave of pain coursed through me. It felt like something was siphoning from me. Making me weak. I fell to my knees and shook my head.
“I can’t. It’s not working,” I said through the pain.
“Alaia, I can’t stay here. I will be caught.”
There were black spots clouding my visions. I shook my head to try to get rid of them but nothing helped.
“Then I suggest you run. Don’t worry. It’s going to be fine,” I told Nas as I tried to stand but failed. “I just need to sleep.”
I started to feel sick like something was trying to get out. Then his scent came to me. Isaiah was close but how? I heard his growl before anything else. Then everything went dark.
