There he was standing in the doorway with Zack right behind him. I could see how angry he was by the way his whole body moved when he breathed. I could see every little muscle contract all across his body. He was wearing nothing but shorts with a shirt bunched in his hand. I guess he didn’t have time to put it on before busting down the door.
I stood there with the towel clenched tightly against my body but his stare made me feel like the towel was just an illusion. I took a moment to look at Isabella who was just as shocked to see him, so how did he find out. She was the only person I told.
I swear I said nothing Isabella linked me.
“Don’t,” Isaiah yelled. “Don’t you dare talk in secret while I’m here.”
He took a threatening step in the room making me mirror his movement backwards. He wouldn’t hurt me, I knew that, but the power coming off of him felt dark.
“Isaiah…” He cut Isabella off with the wave of his hand while still staring me down.
“Please, just tell me you didn’t do it,” he asked me.
I saw the sadness in his eyes as if he answered the question himself. I thought about how close I was to actually getting an abortion and it just made me feel worst. I shook my head as tears started to fall.
“I’m so sorry, Isaiah. I don't...”
“How could you,” he growled, making me look back at him. “How could you even think about doing this, Zira?!?!”
I was taken aback by his tone and volume. He has never yelled at me like this before. Then I felt something in me building up. It was anger, no, rage. He can’t talk to me like this. I could do anything I wanted. I didn’t need his permission.
“Why do you always go around making decisions like it’s not going to affect anybody else?”
“It’s my body, Isaiah. MY LIFE,” I yelled back. A part of me didn't want to but I felt the need to. Something was telling me to do it, let him feel my rage. Little whispers told me it was okay to be angry.
“No! It is not just your life, Zira. This will affect the life inside you and the people who love you. How can you be so selfish!” Isaiah stepped closer to me and I could see Isabella moving to stand between us but one look from Isaiah made her stop dead in her tracks.
“Maybe we all need to take a breather,” Isabella suggested.
“No!” We both yelled at her, staring each other down.
Let him have it, the voice said in my head. Tell him how you really feel.
Why would you do this, huh,” Isaiah asked. “Why would you want to?”
“Because I’m tired, Isaiah. Can’t you see that.”
Yes keep going, the voice cooed as a wave of energy soared through my body. I felt angrier by the minute and I couldn’t stop the words coming out of my mouth.
“I just wanted to fix things. I had plans and now I’m stuck at your pack, waiting to die. Ever since this pregnancy I've had nothing but bad luck. This baby is nothing but bad luck and I know deep down it’s going to continue until I get RID OF IT!”
The moment I said that I felt disembodied from myself. What the hell did I just say? I didn't have a moment to really think when a loud growl erupted throughout the room and Isaiah lunged for me. He actually tried to attack me. I was frozen in shock.
Luckily Zack was there to grab him but Isaiah quickly broke from his grasp and went after me again. His usual gray eyes were red now. I have never seen him like this. I would have been scared if I wasn't so angry myself.
“Isaiah, what are you doing,” Isabella said, trying to block him from me but he easily pushed her aside.
She landed right into Zack bringing them both down. Nothing stood in his way to get me. I backed up against the wall but stood my ground. I didn’t know why but I was preparing for a fight. I could feel my fingers elongating, letting my claws break free.
“Alpha, no!” Hunter ran into the room and tackled Isaiah right before his claws went for my throat. Hunter wrestled with Isaiah who was almost out of his grasp when Zack and Isabella joined to hold Isaiah down.
“This is so stupid. Why are you trying to keep this baby when you already have one on the way with your mate?”
These words were coming from my mouth. A mouth I felt I had no control over. From me. What is wrong with me?
“This is why Alaia is always after me because you can’t stay away from me. Well I’m done with that and I’m done with you!”
Isaiah growled again as I covered my ears. I felt hands on my shoulders and looked up and saw Isabella. She was angry as she pulled me up and out the room. I yanked away from her. I didn't know why but I did. I turned back towards Isaiah who was struggling against Zack and Hunter’s grip on him. His red eyes were trained on me growling, and he was midway into shifting.
“Zira, let’s go!”
Isabella dragged me out of the room, still in my towel, towards her car. The farther I got away from the room the better I started feeling. It felt like the pressure was lighter than before and I didn’t feel the urge to rip out someone’s throat. What the hell was going on?
We got into the car and Isabella quickly pulled off. It wasn't before we heard Isaiah growl the loudest I ever heard. I looked back thinking I would see him chasing the car. He was coming for me I bet and I was actually scared, but my anger wouldn't allow me to show it.
“My stuff?! It’s still in the room,” I remembered.
“Fuck your stuff, Zira. What the hell was that,” Isabella yelled. “And what is going on with your eyes right now?”
I pulled down the car visor and noticed my eyes were red, just like Isaiah, but they were slowly going back to normal. I sat down in the seat as my breathing started to increase.
“I don't know Isa. I don't know why I was so angry back there. I guess I had a lot on my chest.”
Isabella abruptly stopped the car. “Get out,” she said through gritted teeth.
I looked at her with disbelief. Was she really going to kick me out of the car? In only a towel that barely covered much. I didn't move and she glared at me.
“Get.Out.Now, Zira.”
I growled in frustration and got out of her car. She followed suit and came around to grab my wrist. She pulled me through the trees until we were at a small clearing.
“I don't know what the hell that was back there but it wasn't my friend. So I’m going to need for you to get everything off your chest right now and bring my friend back,” she said, crossing her arms. “Well?”
I looked at her confused. I didn’t know what she wanted from me so I took a deep breath and let it out. “Isa, I’m fine. I’m…”
“Then why are your eyes still red, Zi? Everything was fine until Isaiah came into the room. Then both of your eyes turned red and anger filled the room faster than air. If there’s some suppressed emotions in there, Zi. Let.It.Out!”
I knew what she wanted me to do but something was holding me back. It was like everything that was bothering me was caught in my throat. Unless it was vomit.
“Zi, it's not good to hold that in and let it fester. Let it out."
"I can't.."
"Yes you can. What are you so mad about? Having a baby with someone else’s mate?”
I growled at her feeling my anger build up again.
“You almost had an abortion.”
“Stop, Isa, please,” I said, covering my ears. Isabella grabbed my hands and pulled them away.
"You've been watching someone you love, love someone else."
"Stop it!"
“And you’re still mate-less. Who knows if your mate would even accept you if you ever meet them!”
"STOP!" I screamed at her.
It was probably the loudest scream I could muster up, but it worked. All the anger that built up out of nowhere was slowly fading away. So I screamed again and again until my throat ran dry and fell to the ground. Isabella was there, holding me until I stopped crying.
“I'm sorry I said those things, Zi, but I had to get you as mad as you were back there. I wasn't even sure it would work," Isabella said, picking me up from the ground. "Though your eyes are back to normal. So that's a good sign."
“Isa, I didn't mean what I said in that room. I don’t know why I…”
“It wasn't you, Zi. I know. There’s something fishy going on here. When I pulled that choker off of you, there was a familiar smell on it. The same scent I smelled when those rogues attacked. I don’t know for sure but I think it might be connected. Someone is really after you, Zi. You have to be careful.”
I nodded, thinking back to that night. I almost forgot about it. “Isaiah…”
“Don’t worry about it. Whatever was affecting you was probably affecting him too. It’s just weird it was only you two, but I’ll figure it out. Be prepared though. I’m not sure what he’s going to do when he gets here, but he won't hurt you, ok?”
I nodded. I had nothing else to say or do. I just had to wait and see what Isaiah was going to do. We got back in the car and started driving down the road.
