Walking in my office, I can feel the amount of energy vibrating off the walls. Oh it was serious. My mom and dad were standing behind my desk, Isabella standing near them in the corner, Zira was sitting opposite of my parents, with her parents standing behind her. My mom ushered me to my seat.
Then everything came to light. Zira was pregnant. By me. My emotions were conflicted. I mean, yes having a baby to continue the alpha line is amazing, but having a child with someone who’s not my mate could be trouble. How am I going to tell Alaia? She’s already so fragile. It took quite some time to get her to trust me enough to keep her here so we can get to know each other. Now this might break her.
Everyone was screaming and asking questions, but my focus was on Zira. I saw the tears fall down her face, then it turned into a full sob. It broke my heart, so I commanded everyone out. The moment the door closed I pulled Zira into a hug to help calm her, not realizing my mistake. That brought an angry Alaia busting through the door, trying to attack whoever was touching me. Luckily, I calmed her down in time.
“Now before I tell you the next part, I want you to know how much I love you. The moment you entered my life you’ve changed it for the better. I want nothing more than to make you the happiest person in the world. So with what I’m about to say keep that in mind,” Isaiah nodded. Alaia following suit.
“Before we met, I had a drunken night with Zira,” Isaiah started eliciting a growl from Alaia, “And she’s pregn-”
Before I could finish, Alaia growled loud enough to shake the walls and broke out of my embrace. She flew through the door before I could register what was happening.
“Alaia!” I yelled trying to get her attention and saw her dash through the hallway after Zira.
They both went down the flights of stairs. Alaia’s claws were out and aiming for Zira’s throat. Before she had a chance to do anymore damage, I pulled her off of Zira. I brought her closer to my chest, trying to calm her as Zira’s mother attended to her unconscious daughter.
“Get her to the pack hospital now,” I commanded, pulling Alaia back up the steps to our room. The moment we made it through the door, Alaia broke out of my embrace.
“I can’t believe this,” she screamed as I stayed back to give her room.
I don’t think she would want me to touch her right now. She was pacing back and forth, shaking her head.
“Are you sure it’s yours?” She looked at me with a bit of hope in her eyes.
“Alaia-”
“No, no, no. I saw her talking with a lot of guys at the ceremony. Are you certain you’re the only one? You’ve been with me this whole time so there could’ve been someone else.”
“Alaia-”
“You said one time. One time, Isaiah. That was, what, over a month ago. We don’t even know how far along she is? So it’s possible.”
Alaia was speaking fast and answering herself before I could say anything. True it was only one time but I didn’t wear protection and we never thought about that. Though I’m not sure if I was the only one. Maybe she did find somebody after and didn’t tell anyone. No I would have known and Zira is not like that. I shouldn’t even be thinking this way.
“It is possible but I can’t find out if you go around attacking her.”
“She touched what was MINE!” Her icy blue eyes stared me down like there was fire in them.
I took this moment to get close to her. I started rubbing her arms and I could feel her calm a bit.
“Alaia, you are the best thing that has ever happened to me. You need to know that.”
She looked up at me with tears in her eyes before stepping away from touch. “I need to be alone,” she said and it nearly broke my heart.
“Alaia, please. Lets-”
“Please,” she said through gritted teeth.
I nodded and stepped back. I waited for a second to see if she would change her mind but she didn’t move. I understood why she was mad but I didn’t want her to feel this way alone. What could I do? Nothing but turn and walk out the room.
I needed to go for a run. I mindlinked Hunter to meet me near the woods. When I got there, Hunter had already shifted into his gray wolf. I shifted into Devon and ran without waiting. I had way too many things moving inside my head and running was the best way to release this kind of tension.
I ran for almost an hour with Hunter only a few seconds behind me. When I found my spot near the cliff overlooking a massive area of trees, I shifted and sat on the edge. Hunter sat next to me. We didn’t speak for a minute.
“I can’t believe I was so close to being in your shoes right now,” Hunter said, breaking the silence. “Hell I won’t lie, but if not for Ashlee, I would have been.”
“What am I gonna do,” I asked no one in particular.
“You’re going to do what every Alpha has to do in any situation,” a voice came behind us.
I watched as my father walked out of the woods and sat next to me. He put his arm around my shoulders.
“You must make the best decision for the pack.”
“Meaning someone is going to get hurt,” I said.
“Son, it will take time but Alaia will come around. She will see this as a blessing from the Moon Goddess.”
“How?! Did you not see how she took down Zira just by me mentioning the pregnancy?”
“Like a she wolf in heat,” Hunter laughed. I punched him in the arm, almost making him fall over the cliff. “Woah, I could’ve died, man.”
“I can’t ask this of her, Dad. It wouldn't be fair. If it was on the other foot I don’t know how I would react,” I said, thinking if Alaia was pregnant by someone else. I could literally see myself tearing him to pieces. “I can’t play mediator for the rest of my life.”
“Son, you’re the Alpha now. You’re always going to be a meditator. So get used to it.” My father stood up. “I think it’s time you talk to both women and set your intentions to make this work.”
I put my head in my hands hoping this was all a dream. I don’t know how I’m always finding ways to hurt the women I love but my dad was right. I have to figure out a way to fix this. For both their sakes. How? I had no f-ing clue. I love Alaia with everything in my soul. Knowing how much this hurts her hurts me more.
Then there’s Zira. I know I still have feelings for but I can’t imagine how she feels right now. She wanted to leave and now she’s going to be miserable stuck here. I took one more deep breath, taking in the scenery before shifting and heading back to the packhouse. Goddess help me.
