Diana's POV
Putting my head out the window, I let my tongue hanging out like a dog. I think I got used to Cam's crazy driving by now or I got a sugar high. Either way, the wind was blowing towards my face so fast it was a bit hard to breathe. Now I see why dogs find this fun. My brown hair was blowing around everywhere becoming more of a mess than it already was. The cold breeze felt nice as it hit against my skin.
"Would you stop that?" Cam asked pulling on my arm causing me to sit back properly into my seat.
"Aw," I complained and looked back out the open window with longing.
"You’ve definitely had too much chocolate," Cam commented while I poked his arm, it was hard yet soft. How was that possible? Huh, maybe I was in a sugar high.
"We are finally here." He announced while stepping hard on the brakes and if he didn't put my seat belt back on earlier, I might have crashed through the window. I looked out the window to see we were outside a burned down house in the middle of the forest. Pain struck my heart as I knew this place, it was where my brother had passed away.
"Cam, what are we doing here?" I asked slowly unbuckling my seat belt to follow him as he walked up towards it.
"We are looking for clues," Cam answered me leaving me in an even more state of confusion. I thought he wasn’t going to let me get revenge on the rogues that killed my brother.
"About?" I questioned already guessing the answer.
"About the rogues that killed your brother," Cam said not once looking back at me so I couldn’t see his expression. I was a bit shocked about him changing his mind. Cam was going to let me finally find the bastards who killed my brother? A small smile slipped out and I quickly walked to catch up after Cam, kicking a glass bottle to the side as I did.
I will never forget the heartbroken face my father had when he came back home that night empty handed. My mother was so crushed by the news, she cried for days and was not her usual self for months. I knew in my heart I wanted revenge just like everyone else in my pack, including my father. I just wanted closure, no I needed it, so I could move past my anger of loving my older brother.
Everything in the house was broken or burned so it made harder to smell out anything. Plus, it has been a really long time so if there was any lead it must have disappeared by now. The chances of finding something were slim.
I think I heard footsteps outside the house but Cam called me over saying he found something. In a pile of burnt books was a rusty metal pendant. It was the shape of a six-pointed star. Could it have something to do with the rogues that killed my brother?
"Well, look who we have here..." A dark raspy voice said in an amused tone. Cam tensed up and quickly went on guard. The vibe I was getting from the person standing in front behind us was not a good one. Weird thing was that he had no scent. Every wolf has its own smell, yet this one seemed to be blank. "Seems like I found a pair of dumb wolves wandering around, lucky me, eh?"
Cam pushed me behind him without saying a word, his eyes never leaving the rogue. The man had pale skin and frightening light blue eyes that looked white, blank of any life. His red hair was a mess of knots while his clothes were ripped and he wore tattered shoes. This rogue was turning mad, I could tell by the way his ribs were poking out under his shirt. Once they become rogue, they start hating every wolf they come across before they start trying to destroy packs for no reason. Except that they are clearly insane and were cast out for a reason. No pack is going to accept someone who was a problem in their previous group put others in danger.
"Aw come on, don't hide the pretty lass away from me." The redhead flashed me a wicked grin as I peered over Cam’s shoulder. I could tell his intentions were not good as he was picking a fight instead of walking away as any reasonable person would do. I knew even if I told Cam I could fight him, he would not let me because as the beta of the pack he would not risk me getting hurt. My father would get so mad if he found out Cam let me close to danger if he didn’t give the order. I was itching to show them I could protect myself and others.
"Leave her out of this. Your fight will be with me." Cam spoke out loudly so that he would take his hungry eyes off of me.
"Well, all right then, pretty boy. Let's do it... but first I just want to say that I'll make sure to take really good care of her when I kill you." The rogue had a wicked gleam in his light blue eyes as he said that meaning he would most likely try to rape me. Without another word, he flung himself at Cam who was fueled with anger at his comment. I stepped away quickly as Cam and the rogue rolled around on the ground next to my feet. Cam was able to punch him twice before the rogue kicked him off and they both transformed into wolves in a mere second. Cam’s bigger frame dwarf the other in size as he bared his teeth menacingly.
I have never been in a fight with a rogue since my father wouldn't let me after what happened to my brother. You would think he would want me to be more prepared against them but the sorrow of losing a child caused him to not think straight. I stood there silently watching Cam break the rogue’s arm with his razor sharp teeth. He cried out in pain but didn’t stop attacking him so Cam broke his leg as well so that he could stop advancing towards him. Cam was about to go for the kill since he was going to for the throat.
"Wait!" I shouted causing Cam to stop in his movements. He growled before turning his light brown eyes at me in question. The rogue was on the floor twitching as blood surrounded him.
"Maybe we can get some clues out of him," I said taking a step closer. Cam eyes watched the rogue carefully as I went on one knee and told him to shift back. When he didn't listen to me Cam let out a low growl which got him to do it, but of course, it didn't come without screams from transforming with broken bones.
"What do you want?" He spat out, glaring at Cam with those dead blue eyes of his before looking at me.
"Why are you here?" I asked, ignoring how blood was running down his chin as he had internal bleeding now.
"I was roaming around as rogues do, so please don't kill me." His voice was soft, a mere whisper. I could hear how scared he was causing me to feel sad for him. "I swear I won't come around here again, please! Don’t kill me!"
“Diana,” Cam warned through our mental bond.
I could feel myself want to trust him as I looked down into his eyes and that's when he lashed out and grabbed my wrist in a death grip. "Didn't your daddy tell you not to trust anything rogues say?" He asked smiling as his blood smeared face came closer to mine. I could feel my heart beat faster in fear as he did. I have never gotten this close to a rouge before and he smelled like decay and blood. It was not pleasant at all.
The next second someone ripped me away from the rogue's grip and kicked him hard in the face, enough to send him flying backward. "Didn't your daddy tell you not to mess with someone's mate?"
My eyes widen in shock at who it was and what he said while he pulled me closer towards his chest with that same arm. My body reacted to his by melting against his frame, heating up my body temperature. "Same goes for you, Cam."
It was Angelo in all his glory. He winked a grey eye down at me as I couldn’t help but gasp at him in shock. How did he manage to find us here?
