CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE

Ch. 29 / 53 Feb 14, 2025

Diana’s POV

"It has to do with your power to heal,” Benjamin said grabbing one of my hands. I let him so curious as to what he planned to do. “These hands can heal as well as take away life.”

I snatched my hand away and let it fall down my side when I felt a strange surge of tingles run up my arm. Benjamin’s baby blue eyes meet mine immediately after like he felt the same thing, it was physically impossible so I stayed silent. I swallowed down an uneasy feeling I got from his touch before saying what everyone was thinking.

“How can I control it?” James wrapped a strong arm over my shoulder as he kept those forest green eyes on Benjamin. Sure James is tied to him through a ring but his sister came first and he wasn’t liking the look Benjamin was giving me through those hooded sparkling blue eyes.

“That’s the tricky part. You would need to learn about magic in order to get a better understanding of it.” Benjamin ran a hand through his perfectly styled blonde hair, messing it up as he looked away from me. He knew he was trying to get at someone who was marked and it was not a good move for him. “That is why are you here, in my home. I have put shields up so that no one can come in or out. It’s been our plan for a long time to find whoever got bestowed this power next and help them out before someone else gets their hands on them.”

“Why did you numb my connection with Angelo?” I asked reaching for the bond we shared only for it to be silent. The emotions we shared were no longer passing through each other so it felt oddly cold and distant.

“I needed to temporarily disconnect your bond from both your father and Angelo so no one knows where you are. Hiding you is pretty difficult when I have two packs searching for you nonstop.” Benjamin sat down on the bed as this became a big talk that was going to take a while. “Most packs are very discreet about healing abilities as it can draw unwanted attention so they put people you could trust with medicine. Has anyone new joined?"

"Janice our pack doctor brought in a new shy wolf as a trainee..." I said slowly. "I haven’t met her personally in the time that she has been there.”

“I’m pretty sure she is connected to them in some way. Sometimes it can even be a pack member that you have known for years who got brainwashed into giving deep information.” Benjamin said shaking his head remembering when it happened to him. “This person has a vast amount of magic, I’m not sure exactly how, except when they start to channel more magic from a gem. That is when it becomes black magic since that gem is dangerous in many ways, starts to mess with you.” This was a lot to take in. Especially since I knew nothing about magic and gems.

Although I had someone from our bloodline who was born half werewolf and human, part of a witch Convene. She couldn’t survive the labor of a werewolf boy after she was cast out to survive on her own without the help of others. She couldn’t go to a human hospital, they would automatically know something wasn’t right with the baby. Somehow he survived and became part of the pack again. It seems like Benjamin’s parents were fortunate to have the werewolf be the mother.

“This seems like a lot to learn in one day,” I muttered, glancing at James who pursed his lips and wouldn’t look at me, he didn’t want to be the one to give the bad news.

“About that, you’ll actually be here with us for two weeks,” Benjamin said getting up and crossing his arms as a way to protect himself from my glaring eyes. “That’s already pushing you too far, magic isn’t an easy skill to pick up.”

“You can’t be serious,” I said surprised. “Do you know how much stress my body is going through just by being marked by Angelo and not completing the mate bond so these feelings can go back to normal?”

Benjamin’s jaw popped out in anger from a harsh reminder that I was marked by Angelo but he was holding himself in check. “That sounds like a personal problem.”

My eyes went wide in response. Someone was definitely touchy about the subject, that did not pass my radar.

“The magic inside you has two switches. Kill or heal, no in between. It is mostly affected by your emotions and intentions. I would not let you try to heal me in the state you are in.” Benjamin said stepping closer as James let his arm slide off of me, taking a step back. It was a clear indication of who he stood next to in this case. He must really think it’s necessary as well.

“If I ever lay my hand on you it’s going to be to kill you,” I threatened him still in defiance of it all. Maybe I was going a little too far, picking a fight with an alpha witch but my blood was boiling with anger from being taken away from Angelo. That slight anger started boiling inside me until it started a fire of its own.

“Oh trust me, Diana, you won’t ever get to lay your hand on me when you try that.” Benjamin narrowed those icy blue eyes against my anger fueled brown ones. I stood there not giving in as he tried to intimidate me but it was hard since I knew very well that this man probably sold his soul to the devil. I had a feeling he knew all about black magic and how to control it to his will. “I can see now, that without Angelo you are the dark side to this ying-yang you both share. He is your light and healing power while you are death.”

It was as if those words were water thrown to my fire, extinguishing it. He was saying that I was connected deep down to the dark side. It meant I was more of a danger to those around me than I could imagine. The surge of anger I held earlier helped me channel my power, I could feel it’s hot energy run down my veins, focused solely on my right arm. It made me feel unstoppable up against Benjamin, causing me to pick a fight since my anger was aimed at him.

Benjamin’s eyes flickered down, noticing something strange from my hand. Looking down I saw my veins were pulsing out the color black. The same thing happened earlier when I healed David. I could faintly remember being angry at Camilla for being so stubborn and then having Angelo share his power through our mate bond right before my fingers lightly touched David’s chest, healing him on the spot. The two powers must have mixed and been an equal balance in order for it to happen.

Benjamin was right. If I was really the dark side to this power, then I needed to get this power under control as soon as possible.

“Alright,” I whispered looking away from his stare since he was still unsure if I was a threat or not, his stance was tensed and he didn’t step back to give me some room. Benjamin was going to be my teacher in the magic world for the next two weeks. I had to get used to it, didn’t mean I was going to enjoy it. “I’ll stay for two weeks.”

“You can’t go anywhere anyway, you didn’t have an option since the beginning.” With that Benjamin left me alone in the room with my brother who was avoiding getting the heat of my anger through it all.
