Angelo’s POV
It has been five days and we managed to get all the witches of the area to come out and see what we are dealing with. They inspected the border from afar because the more you got closer the more distance you got of reaching your goal. All but one said no giving me sliver lining to grasp onto.
"I'd like to say I can take it down, but by doing so, it will require for me to use black magic since it was black magic that it was built on." He said messing with glasses pinched on the bridge of his nose.
"So why isn't it down yet?" I asked trying not to sound rude. He was the first one to say something other than, "sorry, I can't take it down."
"I don't practice black magic, none of us do," Nathan said visibly shaken. His brown eyes were wide as they looked up into mine. "It's not something most are willing to mess with."
"What do you mean you don’t practice black magic? Isn't is it the same as regular magic?" This came from Ryan, a pack member of my Wildings pack. He was standing next to Nathan, the only witch who said maybe when all the others said no. He was my only hope right now on getting Diana back right now.
"Black magic is entirely different. It deals with blood sacrifice. Or selling some of your soul for more power. Everything comes with a price and if you aren't careful, it takes more than you bargained. You need experience in those arts to be able to take down this barrier." Nathan said taking out a small notebook and flipping through it. “I have nothing against this kind of magic.”
"So you are saying that you aren't going to take down the barrier," I said slowly, making sure he got the full weight of my words. We were offering to give him a lot of help for his witch business that he wanted to expand. He wanted to help me in any way he could.
Nathan licked his bottom lip nervously and finally looked into my eyes again before saying, "I can not take it down, but I know someone who can. Her name is Anita."
Diana’s POV
After what happened the awkward tension between Benjamin grew heavy over a couple of days. He was in his thoughts most of the time as I practiced a few spells sitting on the chair facing him. I couldn’t ignore the fact that he didn’t try to keep his blonde hair out of his face so it laid over his eyes casting a dark shadow. I didn’t like the glint of his light blue eyes as he stared off into nothing.
I wanted to ask him what was wrong but I already knew the answer.
“How can I have two mates?” I finally blurted out catching his attention. He sat up straighter in his chair and set down the book he was holding.
“How can I be an alpha werewolf but still practice magic?” Benjamin asked back making me draw my eyebrows confused because I still didn’t get it. “Anything is possible, that’s what I’m trying to say.”
“Can it be fixed?” I asked watching those blue eyes narrow at my use of words.
I stayed silent as Benjamin pushed back his hair out of his face thinking. It was right that moment James decided to come into the room before I could Benjamin could say anything. James’s green eyes glanced between the two of us, noticing he was interrupting an important conversation.
“What?” James asked as Benjamin sighed heavily, getting up from his chair.
“Not everything can be fixed Diana, something things just end up with someone heartbroken, sad and alone.” With that he got up and left slamming the big wooden door shut, causing me to flinch. That didn’t end well, not like I expected it to be in the first place.
“What is he talking about?” James asked me totally out of the loop.
“It’s nothing,” I muttered covering my face with the book so he couldn’t spot the lie out of me. Benjamin was right, not everything ends like a fairytale especially in a situation like this. Two alphas would never share me, they didn’t even know the meaning of word sharing in the first place. It was naive of me to think that somehow through all of this they could still sit down and figure things out like adults.
“Okay...” James said slowly clearly seeing something was up with both of us but decided to stay out of the drama.
I ignored the pain in my chest as I was torn between two different men. One was goofy, charming and great to be around when he wasn’t drunk. The other was attractive, reserved, guarded with a long past that made him who he is today. I knew deep down Benjamin wanted to enjoy himself around me but by doing that he would be letting me closer to seeing the real him. He wanted someone to show his vulnerable side while knowing they would never use that to hurt him. I don’t think I could be that person. All he would get from me would be an endless amount of pain.
Yet, the feelings swirling inside of me was proof that anything was possible. Including a happy ending. I had all the power to make sure it happened since it was me they were both after.
