CHAPTER THIRTY-FIVE

Ch. 35 / 53 Feb 14, 2025

Diana’s POV

Running through the woods I had no idea where I was going but it needed to be as far away as I could from that house and Benjamin. How did he manage to get through my barriers and wrap those arms around me? The sky was turning dark quickly as the sun crept down the huge trees. With the darkness came along the cold that would snip at your nose causing it to turn red. I covered my nose with my hands and blew my hot breath to warm it up. Ever since my connection with Angelo became numb it was like I lost the flame that kept me warm.

I came to an abrupt stop when there was a strange glowing red wall just inches away from me. I was about to run into it if I hadn’t opened my eyes in time. Reaching out to touch it I was surprised when a strong hand grabbed mine instead, taking it away. Those same chills from earlier came running throughout my body. I knew instantly who it was.

“What have you done?” I asked taking my hand out of Benjamin's hold sharply.

“It’s a magic barrier keeping you safe from Jason, the one that wants to use your powers for bad,” Benjamin said as I looked back at the red glowing wall with strange symbols hovering in it, something else was happening. That I could tell from the symbols I've seen in for black magic. I couldn’t figure out what so I put my attention back on Benjamin. How he managed to catch up to me after making him pass out was odd. I looked down at his hand to see a silver band ring on his index finger. Was he channeling magic into that? He did say a lot of people were channeling black magic into gems.

“That wall can burn you if you touch it from the inside. It can't be messed with.” Benjamin said with concerned blue eyes. His reaction to me possibly getting hurt drove him to get to me as soon as he could.

“You're messing with my emotions,” I whispered out loud, trying to understand it better if I could hear it for my own ears. Angelo was my mate and he even marked me so I shouldn’t be thinking Benjamin was attractive enough for me want to kiss those lips of his like forbidden fruit. My mind was only clouded with Angelo until Benjamin kidnapped me. He was getting into my head, that's for sure.

“I am not, we share a mate bond as well,” Benjamin said closing the distance between us and lifting my chin up towards me with his finger so I could look into those eyes and see for myself that he was telling the truth. I swallowed down my lust for him as he smoldered me with his light blue eyes. My mind knew it was wrong to feel this way but my body wasn't listening.

“I don’t believe you,” I said stepping back like pushing away from a big magnetic while shaking my head. “That’s impossible.”

“Angelo got to you first, marking you and numbing our connection,” Benjamin said grabbing my hand and pulling me towards his chest. “Without him here, you finally notice what I’ve been feeling all along.” My hands pushed against his hard chest to keep some distance between us but I got distracted by the feel of his chest underneath my fingertips.

Those big hands of his held my shoulders as his soft lips touched mine in an explosion of fireworks. It came crashing down at me all at once like he unlocked feelings locked deep inside of me with a simple kiss. Those fingers of his traveled down my arm before coming back up to reach the back of my head so he run them through the curls in my hair. My heart was beating fast like that of a hummingbird. I couldn’t simply ignore him anymore, he was in my head driving me wild as endless possibilities were running around inside.

I broke away from him keeping my eyes closed, breathing deeply because my emotions were all over of the place. I felt like I didn't have control over them anymore. “I can’t.”

Slowly opening my eyes I saw Benjamin relax his handsome facial features, he was masking his real emotions. Yet, with the mate bond growing between us I felt the same blow to the chest my words caused. It caught me to hesitate but I made my choice of making sure my family and many other people were not at risk of losing there lives because of me.

“Please don’t, I won’t be able to choose so don’t make me.” Was all I said before walking away from him as his blue eyes burned into my back with unshed tears. It hurt for me to know all this time he held these feelings for me but I had fallen head over heels for Angelo. No one else could take his spot.

I wasn’t about to play with his feelings for my personal gain then stab him in the heart.
