Sophie
As usual, Logan picked me up from work early and we made our way to pick up Nathan from school. He parked the car and made his way around to open the door for me. I took his hand and wrapped my arms around him, kissing him on his lips soon as I got out of the car. It seems so surreal, we have been together for a whole month now, but it seems as if we never parted. We fit in so perfectly.
Logan is the best with Nathan, and he helps me out so much at home. His birthday is coming in just a few weeks, and I'm meeting with T in a few days to talk about proper arrangements for his wedding and possibly making a party for Logan. He's getting married in December, I can't wait t see them walk together down the aisle to get married. But my concern right now is making a small gathering for Logan to celebrate his birthday.
"Mmh, you smell so good, babe," he says as he pulls me closer against him making my cheeks feel heated, there were many parents already waiting out here to pick up their kids. I have been extremely sensitive to his touch lately, and he...well, being honest here, he's become a big horn-dog with me. But I'm not complaining. I love...LOVE being with him.
"Logan, behave. There's people watching." I say giggling. It's as if he likes to taunt me. He trails his hands down to my ass, squeezing my butt, making me squeal. "Stop it, wait until we get home," I say, giving him a warning look. He grunts and hangs his head, burying it against my neck. "Fine. You're not getting away from me later though," he says as I walk past him towards the entrance. He walks behind me, locking the car and grabbing my hand to interlace his fingers with mine.
It doesn't take long before the bell rings, and the teachers start bringing the kids out with them in single files. "I see him. Look at him? He looks so happy, looks like he had a good day." Logan says as Nathan walks with a smile, talking to a friend of his. "There's my mom and dad," he yells out, pointing to us and smiling. I smile from ear to ear as he comes closer.
His teacher does the same protocol, telling the kids to stay in a single file. "Let me know if you see mom and dad guys. If not, you already know, go and take a seat on the bench right next to me," he says as he gets closer and waves at the parents. He shakes Logan's hand firmly and smiles. "Mr. Spencer, good to see sir." he greets him and smiles at me. "Mrs, Spencer, good to see you, ma'am," he says making my cheeks hot. Roxie overhears, making her smile disappear, and throws a menacing state my way. I ignore it, the least I need right now is to start drama in front of so many kids. "Thank you, good to see teacher Omar," I reply smiling.
" Ok, Kayla, do you see your mom?" he begins to ask a student at a time and sits them down if they don't see their parents. But, as always, Nathan waits to the very back of the line, he knows it will give him more time to talk to his friends. He finally comes to the line, but since the teacher already knows us, he simply ruffles Nathan's hair and waves him goodbye. "See you tomorrow kiddo," he says to him with a smile. Nathan smiles and waves at him, "Bye teacher." he replies.
"Mom, mom," he comes excitedly, jumping up and down. "Hi, baby," I say hugging him, he then high-fives Logan and hugs him. Logan grabs his backpack, placing over his shoulder to give him a rest. "Mom, can my friend come over for dinner, please?" he asks, throwing me off at his request. He had never asked any of his friends to come to our house, this was a good thing, right? I mean, it's what I hoped for... For him to make friends and hoped he wouldn't get bullied again, as he did by an older kid back home until I made the principal put a stop to it.
"Uhm, I suppose it would be ok with me, what do you think, babe? Is it ok with you if Nathan brings a friend over for dinner?" I ask Logan with concern. Logan is usually pretty busy answering emails and going through paperwork in the evenings, I need to make sure he's ok with two boys running around the house, maybe even being loud playing video games after homework for a bit.
"It's fine with me buddy, but, we have to ask his parents for permission first, ok? Make sure they agree for your friend to come over. So, who's your friend? Call him over." Logan replies making Nate giggle. "She's not a boy dad, it's a girl. She's my new sister, and you already know her. She said you're her adopted uncle." my eyes went wide in surprise to Nate's request. I knew exactly who he was talking about, McKenzie, Amber's daughter.
"Baby, are you talking about McKenzie?" I asked him making him nod happily. Logan looked at me unsure if this was a good idea. Honestly, I was unsure as well, but I can't deny my son to be friends with her. They get along so well, I saw that back at the resort. They hit it off so well, and she looked so happy being friends with my son. "Soph, I'm not sure about this. Will you be ok if she comes over, or do you want me to talk to him?" Logan trails his arm around my waist, concerned with me.
I cupped his face and smiled, kissing him on his lips. "Logan, it's fine. McKenzie is welcome into our home. If Nate wants to invite her, and Amber is ok with it, then... I'm ok with it." I replied making Nate smile. "Thanks, mom. I'll be back. I'm going to get Kenzie." he says as he tries to run off, I pull him back, holding his arm. "Baby, wait. We have to talk to Amber first. Make sure she agrees to McKenzie coming over, ok?" I added making him nod as he listened attentively.
We looked over and noticed Amber wasn't here yet, I looked everywhere, but her white corolla was nowhere to be seen. Then ten minutes passed and her car quickly made a turn and haunted to the nearest spot. She quickly exited the car and got out, she was still on the phone and looked frantic. "Kenzie...Kenzie, I'm here baby. Let's go. Ok, yes...yes sir, thank you, I appreciate it, I will be back in the office as soon as possible. Bye, sir." I guess that she was speaking with her boss. She sprinted on her heels towards the entrance getting an eye roll in return from Roxanne. "Ms. Devoroux I had already explained to you that you need to make sure you are on time to pick up your daughter. This is not a daycare center, if you can't be here on time, then you need to find someone to come get her or call me to let me know so she waits in the office for you." Roxanne spat at her making my blood boil.
"I know, I got caught up in a meeting, I'm sorry. I came as soon as possible. It won't happen again."
"Yeah, I doubt it. Next time please call me and-"
"Amber, I can pick her up. If...that is ok with you. I mean, Nate and her are good friends, you seem so busy lately, let me pick her up, help you out a few hours while you finish up work. You can come to pick her up at my house." I cut Roxanne's ranting, making Amber's eyes go wide as saucers. "Sophie, thank you, but you don't have to. I know you're still mad at me, and you... You have all the right to be, I-" she kneels down at her daughter who has a new scrape on her right elbow. She sighs and closes her eyes.
"Amber, adult problems are adult problems. It was a low blow what you did, but..." Logan says as he takes Kenzie in his arms. "Hi uncle Logan," she says smiling. "Hi, beautiful," he replies.
"What's important is that Sophie and I are together again, we don't hold any grudges towards you, and we also want to ask you for permission to take McKenzie over tonight for dinner while you go back to the office if you need to." She looks between us, her daughter wraps her arms around Logan. "Please, mom. Can I go have chicken in Nathan's house?" she asks making her smile. "Are you sure this is ok with you, Sophie? Today it's ok with me, but you don't have to worry about picking her up for me, I can d-"
"Just get her car seat, Amber. It's fine. Believe me, I will make sure I get her home safe with you. We'll talk about the details later, trust me, it's no problem. Kenzie, do you like fried chicken, or grilled chicken better?" I say turning towards McKenzie, making her smile. She giggles and looks between my son and Amber, Logan whispers in her ear making her giggle"Fried chicken," she blurts out. "Are you sure?" I ask as she becomes giggly. She nods and gets a kiss on her cheek from Logan.
I look at Logan who looks away, trying to play it off. "Ok, fried chicken it is." I reply making Logan and her cheer excitedly, "Yes, good job Kenz." he says, engulfing her in a tight bear hug.
Amber soon returns with her car seat as I strap Nate in his, and Logan gives McKenzie a piggyback ride. "Thank you so much for this Sophie, I... I don't know how to thank you for this. I was the worst with you, and you have shown me time and time again how wonderful you are. Thank you, I am deeply in debt with you."
"Don't. I'm doing it for McKenzie and my son, he sees her as a sister, and if she is that much important to her then she matters to me as well. Take your time at work, we'll talk later when you're free." I reply grabbing McKenzie's car seat and going around to the other side of the car. Amber kisses her, and gives her small talk, McKenzie smiles and nods her little head. Soon, Amber says goodbye, kisses her head, and takes off. Logan comes around and straps her in, tickling her stomach. He then goes and opens the door to Nate's side and hugs him, puts his hand out for a fist bump, and makes Nate laugh.
"Ready guys?" I ask, turning to my side, looking at two amazing six-year-olds smiling, "Ready." they reply in unison. Logan starts the car, and we set off to go home.
