Sophie
"I feel so damn frustrated right now. I can't believe the audacity of this principal, to call me and tell me, my son was in trouble for standing up for himself. Who the hell does she think she is? What was she thinking? That I'd let this go, and cross my hands? Do nothing about it, but step back and allow the broken school system to proceed with their wrongful punishments to my son, while they oversee not punish the actual culprit?" I kept talking away as we made our way out of the office building. I didn't realize I was fast pacing, walking towards my son's class to pick up his backpack. A habit I have when I'm mad.
"Mom...mom....mommy please, slow down," Nate said as I held his hand and he struggled to keep up with my pace.
"But you bet your ass I'm going to get to the bottom of this. I'm going to find out who the hell is talking bad about me to my son...oh, and when I do, they are going to regret this, they are going to get an earful from me." I chuckled, though still infuriated.
"Babe...slow down. Sophie...you're getting too upset sweetheart, you'll upset the baby." Logan said, making me stop in my tracks and turn to look at him angrily.
"And you... Don't you dare push my buttons. How dare you apologize to that lady, knowing damn well she was being unfair to our son? If you ask me, I went easy on her. It should have been you yelling at her, not me. Do you not care what happens to our son? You have to stand up for him, and for all these kids for that matter. You're a lawyer for fucks sake, you of all people should know that being an advocate for the right people is important. This is why this society is going to hell." he looks at me in shock, his mouth wide open as I raised my voice at him. I have rarely EVER talked to him this way. This is when he knew...I was beyond upset. I felt the urge to cry so bad.
I knew I was an emotional wreck right now, but for the good of my son, I needed to keep myself under control.
He glanced at Nate and softened his gaze..as did I. He went to his eye level, placing his hands on Nate's waist and pulling him in for a tight hug. "Buddy, mom is upset, I know.... she's scary as hell when she's mad, isn't she?" he said to Nate. Nate had his big puppy eyes, ready to break down any minute again. His eyes were still watery, with unshed tears, and lips pouted in sadness.
Logan looks up at me, pursing his lips, and taking a deep sigh. "But mom is right. Sometimes, we grown-ups take wrong measures against a situation where we only hear one side of the story. I don't know everything this little girl told you, but I do know that I love you, and I love mom. I never stopped loving you, and if I had known you existed the minute you were inside mommy, I'd love you since that day. I loved you from the day I met you, buddy, and I am never...EVER! going anywhere. Ok? Mommy is a little upset right now, but we'll help her to calm down, together, right?" he said, making Nate sniffle. He nodded his little head, agreeing with him.
Logan engulfed him into a big bear hug, making Nate rest his head on his shoulder. I sighed, calming myself down a little.
Logan allowed Nathan to calm down in his arms, unwilling to let go of the hug. Once Nate was ready to let go, Logan picked him up in his arms, and carried him to class. We knocked on the door, and Mr.Omar came quickly. He kept apologizing for what had happened. He was pretty upset with the principal's decision as well, to say the least. He got on one knee and hugged Nate. "I will see you here when you come back, ok buddy? Remember, if Kaitlyn bothers you and McKenzie again, you can always come to me and tell me. Don't be afraid to talk to me, ok?"
My blood boiled, finding that this so-called Kaitlyn was the same little devil that was bullying Kenzie. I put two and two together. Kenzie was always going home with scrapes, and I bet this was the same little girl that was pushing her around.
I glanced at my watch, it was a little past one in the afternoon. My stomach grumbled since we had already passed our lunchtime. I looked at them, a bit embarrassed at the loud grumbling sound of my stomach, making Nate laugh.
"Sorry, I guess it's lunchtime for me," I said, apologizing. We got my son's backpack and made our way out to the car. We had to be back to pick up McKenzie after school, which was in less than two hours, so we decided to go eat at the diner after all.
We completely pushed the matter aside while we ate. Logan kept making Nate laugh, doing silly faces at him, and telling him funny stories about things that happened during the time we dated back in high school. "Logan, why are you and mom to married? Do you not want to marry my mom?" he said making us both glance at him in shock.
Logan placed down his fry, clearing his throat, and turning towards him. "Buddy, nothing would make me happier than to marry mom. And we will, soon, someday real soon, ok?" he said making Nate stare at him extensively.
"Ok," he said, still sounding a little disappointed. Half an hour before school was over, we got food to go for us, and McKenzie as well. "Logan, can we go to your house today, instead?" My baby said as we made our way back to the school.
"Nate, tell me what happened baby? Why did you get so upset, that you tossed your juice on Kaitlyn's head?" it wasn't that I didn't believe him, but it was a way for me to make him talk about it, and get it out of his system. If there was one thing I didn't want him to do was to bottle it in.
That's when I found that the little girl had told him that not only her mom was talking about the relationship between Logan and me, but Roxanne as well. Logan clenched his jaw, tightening his hands around the steering wheel. But I had gone off on the principal, you bet your ass Roxanne was going to get a piece of me.
The tell rang, and parents started picking up their kids. And I realized that the only girls left in Roxanne's class were the little girl, Kaitlyn, and Kenzie. "Arent you going to pick up Kenzie? Or do you want me to get her?" Logan asked, looking at me. "Wait.....didn't... The principal says that they called Kaitlyn's mom to come to get her?" I said as I see Kaitlyn playing with another little girl by the swings.
An elder lady came and started talking to Roxie, it looked as if Roxanne was upset that she took so long to come to get her, and was pointing towards the little girl. All the other teachers had finished leaving their kids and left. It was only my left, to pick up McKenzie. I made my way out and saw the little girl pass Roxie, looking at her with a sad expression as she walked towards the elder lady. Her hands crossed over her chest, staring at them annoyed.
"Hurry up. Leave." I heard her say. "Ok, mo-" the little girl began to say but stopped herself as she saw the angry glare Roxie threw her way.
She then turns towards me, undoing her arms and smiling mischievously, ready to go off on me. "Sophia. I got the word you were picking up Ms. Deveroux's daughter. I also heard your son was suspended. I guess bad habits run in the fam-" I didn't let her finish her words. I slapped her hard on her face, making her gasp in shock.
"Don't you fucking dare talk bad about my son you stupid bitch. I can deal with witches like you bad-mouthing me, but don't you dare say my kid's name just to talk bad about him. I heard you're spreading rumors amongst your colleagues. Let me tell you, something sweetheart..." I said as I got near her. "I can be very...very patient with people. But don't you dare cross me, you push my buttons using your snaked tongue to cause harm to my son...be ready for the consequences. Because I will not stand around like an idiot, got it?" she said, looking at me with furry.
She looked past me and acted as if she wanted to cry. "Logan. Logan, did you see what she did to me? She hit me, and she said hurtful things to me. How can you choose her, Logan? She's savage. She doesn't deserve to be with-"
"Save it, Rox. I don't believe your shit. You had it coming to you. You think I haven't seen the way you always try and hurt Sophie? You think I haven't realized what you do to her? and all the shit you've been causing? Stop acting like a victim, and leave Sophie alone, or I will be forced to take drastic measures against you." he said getting close to her.
Her eyes went wide in shock, unwilling to believe he spoke to her like this. "Don't mess with my family, Roxanne. Don't you dare...mess with my family. Believe me, you don't want to see my bad side." he said calmly, taking my hand and calling McKenzie to come to grab his hand.
"Wow, Logan..." I said, getting a bit turned on by the way he stood up for us. He smiled, stopping and making face him. "What? It's true, baby. You and Nate are my family. I need to be able to protect you from anyone. Including her." he says, not caring that Roxanne stood steps away from us. "Now, more than ever. I want nothing to happen to you," he says, kissing my lips and rubbing my stomach, "Or our baby." he says, going down, and kissing my stomach.
Her eyes went wide in shock, hearing his words. I smiled, taking his cheek in my hand and placing a kiss on his lips. "I love you, baby," he says, placing another kiss on my lips. Kenzie giggled, swaying happily, as she held onto his hand. "What?" he says playfully at her. She bites her bottom lip, giggling. "You love auntie Sophie," she says through her giggles.
"Yeah....look at her? She's beautiful, isn't she?" he says, kissing me again. He picks her up, and kisses her cheek. "And you're beautiful too." he says kissing her cheek, and tickling her.
"Is Auntie Sophie really having a baby?" she asks, excitedly. We begin walking towards the car, which we left just a few away from where we were. "She certainly is. Nate is going to be a big brother," he responds making her think.
"But, can still be his sister, too?" she asks, concerning.
We both giggle, and embrace her as we come to the car. Nate was playing on Logan's phone and smiles when he sees McKenzie. "You can always be his sister. And the new baby too. Ok?" I say making her smile. She nods, happy to become an honorary part of our family.
