Christian
It's been 30 minutes since we started looking for Molly but still, there's no sign of her. Mom and Dad have taken the kids into town to the main hall where the whole town will end up today to discuss plans for those that have been affected by the storm, ourselves included.
My brothers and I stayed behind to look for Molly and start the clean-up. Zack and Callum headed towards the barns to check those and the top field area just in case we had missed her coming back while Jack, Tom, and I search the trees that Brody saw Molly go in. The tree area that she walked into is more of a mini forest so it could take a while to find her, that is as long as she is still in there and hasn't used it as a shortcut to get away from the farm.
"Why would she just leave without saying anything?" Jack asks. I've asked myself the same question a hundred times already and there's only one answer that I can come up with. "I think it's because of me." Jack looks at me with confusion but Tom doesn't, his look makes me believe that he knows exactly what I'm talking about.
"Why would she leave because of you?" Jack moves closer to me while Tom continues to look around the trees. "Your not blind Jack." He looks straight at me with a look of complete confusion. "I don't know what you're talking about Christian."
"I think she left because of how I have been treating her, I think I pushed her too far today." He takes another step toward me with a strange look on his face. "How have you been treating her? I mean why would she leave because of how you have been treating her?"
He still looks confused but there's something else in his look that I can't quite put my finger on. He folds his arms across his chest while waiting for my answer. "I've been a dick to her and you know it Jack so cut the bullshit!" I already knew that my behavior wasn't fair towards Molly but even with my reasons for doing it, I know now that I went too far. I went personal when I didn't need to and that was shitty of me. This is the first time that I've actually admitted to myself how badly I have treated her and it is gutting me. Fuck I've been a bastard to her!
"Dam right, you have!" Tom comes storming towards me anger visibly radiating from his body. I'm momentarily shocked at how angry he sounds but the moment is soon over and my shock quickly disappears. Deep down I'm not that shocked at how angry he is with me if anything, I'm more shocked that he has held it in as long as he has.
"You have been a dick to her since the moment she got here all because you believe that she's hiding something from you that you somehow think you have a right to know about." Tom's red in the face by the time he's finished shouting at me while Jack just stands there staring at the two of us.
"I know, Tom, I know." He gives me a disbelieving look. "Is that all you have to say for yourself?" I remain quiet while mulling over his question. what can I say? he's right in what he says. "Today of all days... you just couldn't leave her alone, could you? You had to push her today!" The way Tom answers me doesn't have me thinking that he's talking about the events that have unfolded today.
"What is today, Tom?" He looks like his milling over his answer, clearly, I'm missing something here. "Today is the day that Molly and Archie should have been celebrating their 10 year wedding anniversary, instead she has found out that her husband fathered a child with another woman. Gone through almost dying at the bridge, almost dying in a tornado with you only to be lucky enough to survive just to have you back on her ass within the hour!"
"Fuck!" slips from me before I can stop it. "Jesus Christ," Jack grunts while giving me a shitty look. "I didn't know." Yep, those pathetic words leave my mouth as if they can make this situation any better or me any less of a dickhead.
Tom looks down at the ground and takes several deep breaths before looking back toward me with a conflicted look on his face "Do you think that makes it any better, Chris?" He's not shouting at me anymore but I think that I would prefer it if he was because right now he looks torn and hurt and the look tears at my insides.
Hurting any of my brothers is the last thing that I want to do. Yes we argue, most of the time over stupid shit but we always work shit out but right now Tom looks like I have genuinely hurt him and I hate it! but somehow I'll make it up to him, first by finding molly for him... and for me.
"Let's just concentrate on finding Molly first then you guys can finish this conversation, yeah?" Jack's words stop me from answering Tom and I'm fucking grateful for it because I'm still not sure what my answer would be.
"Fuck, where is she?" I kick at the ground as I spit the words out. "Why didn't she just tell someone she was leaving?"
"Because she knew that whoever she told would try and stop her from leaving. And she knew that if she told Tom that he would have managed to convince her to stay. We all know that she can't say no to Tom." Jack's right, that's exactly why she didn't tell anyone.
"Wait... shit why didn't I think of it before?" Tom starts frantically rummaging through his pockets. "Tom, what are you looking for?" If we weren't in the situation that we are I wouldn't be able to hold back my laughter right now. He looks like he's doing the frigging macarena.
"My phone so I can call Molly." Wait, what? "I thought she didn't have her phone on her. She left it at the house when she went to the river?" He shakes his head as he finally finds his phone and starts frantically touching his screen. "She did but I put it in my pocket when I found it in the house and give it back to her on the way back from the river." Oh, thank fuck!
He quickly has her number calling and his phone to his ear. "She's not answering." He keeps the call going for a few more seconds before ending the call looking defeated. "You don't get rid of me that easy Molly dolly!" His defeated look is quickly replaced with a determined one as he tries calling her again.
Nine calls later with no answer finds us all sitting on the floor surrounded by the trees at a loss. We've searched this entire area with no luck. Callum and Zack joined us just a few minutes ago with no good news and I'm torn between anger and sadness and I'm not even sure why. I'm angry at her for just leaving and angry at myself for being the reason that she has left but the reason for my sadness is not something that I can pin point and it's annoying as fuck.
I'm dragged from my pity party by the sound of a phone ringing. It's Tom's and the moment he pulls it out of his pocket he's instantly smiling. "It's, Molly."
"Molly, are you ok baby girl?" He listens to her response and then lets out a huge breath. he gives us all a positive nod letting us know that she's ok and I too let out a big breath, a breath I didn't even know that I was holding. she's ok... She's ok.
