Molly
You hear people say “I saw my life flash before my eyes” But I could never understand that saying… not until now anyway.
The fear I felt while hanging on to the bridge was real and scary and for a moment, I really thought that my end had come but I pushed it aside and convinced myself that even if I did fall, I’d still survive somehow.
But right now in this very moment as I watch the Tornado fastly approaching the farm I finally understand the meaning and fuck it’s terrifying.
“Molly!” I snap out of my thoughts when I hear Christian’s voice. I don’t know how long he’s been calling me but I’m pretty sure that I zoned out for a moment there. Wrong time for that Molls!
“Molly move!” He grabs my hand and pulls hard. “Fuck that’s coming fast! Shit… shit! The horse stable is our only hope, we’re not going to make it to the shelter.” Is he crazy?
“Christian, we’ll never survive in there, You need to get back to your kids!” We’re both screaming to be heard over the wind and rain and my throat is frigging burning. He completely ignores what I said, instead pulling on me hard, forcing me to run with him.
It only takes us a few seconds to reach the stables thankfully, no more flying objects have rained down on us although plenty have gotten closer than I would like.
We get inside the barn, the walls are rattling and the whistling from the wind coming through the cracks is deafening but we have to try and make this work.
Christian lets go of my hand which I notice way more than I should then heads for the back of the Stable. “Molly, come here.” I want to respond and tell him that I’m not a dog but I don’t think it will help things right now. I run up to him and see that he’s pulling out long thick chains from a storage cupboard that I haven’t noticed before.
“What are you doing?” He stays silent while he finishes up before looking around us and then back at me. We’re gonna tie ourselves down with these chains. They are fairly heavy so should hold us down. Hopefully.”
“Hopefully? Great!” He instantly turns red in the face while looking seriously pissed. “Are you kidding me?” He stomps away from me to a massive metal pipe that’s coming out of the ground and up through the ceiling. What the hell is that?
He starts wrapping the chains around the mental pipe before calling me over. I almost reach him when there’s a massive bang against the side of the stable. I scream out in surprise and fear. Christian steps forward grabbing hold of my hand once more before quickly pushing me against the pipe.
"sit down on the floor facing the pipe. Wrap your arms around it so that you're hugging it." I don't think, I just do as he says. I've never experienced this kind of storm before but I know that he has which means he has more awareness of this and so I figure if I follow his instructions I have more chance of surviving, we both do.
He wraps chains around me and the large mental pipe resulting in me being chained to it and getting scared but I don't show it. The chains instantly pull on my body and more than anything my hips. They are heavy but not as heavy as I thought they would be but still, they do hurt a bit, and I'm pretty that I'm going to be left with bruises from their tightness and weight.
Once Christian is happy he wraps another chain around the pipe before I feel him shift behind me and hold in my surprise when he sits right behind me so that I'm in between his legs, My back to his chest. He secures his chain before pulling us both as close as possible to the pipe.
"Do you think this will work?" I try to hide the fear I feel but I'm pretty sure he can sense it. "These chains are strong and that waste pipe goes underground and will take a lot of force before moving. We'll be ok." he sounds confident and even if I am doubting it I don't show it.
More banging sounds out outside of the stable causing me to jump. Christian brings his arms around my stomach and holds them there keeping me close to him. "It may not even hit us here, Molly. It could go in the opposite direction but we just have to make sure that we are ok in case it does come this way. He's being nice, two nice, and it's unsettling and nice all at the same time.
"I'm sorry." The words slip past my lips without me even realizing but I don't regret them. "Why are you sorry, Molly?" I turn as much as I can so that I can look at a confused-looking Christian. "I'm sorry that you are here with me instead of with your children."
"We'll if your stubborn ass had listened to me we'd both be in the storm shelter right now with my kids!" There's the happy cheerful Christian that I know... not! "I didn't ask you to follow me!"
"Are you fucking kidding me?" He practically screams in my ear as he continues to wrap himself around me. I turn some more and hold myself firm. "Seriously, what is your problem?" He doesn't answer just continues with his pissed stare. "Now isn't the time for this Molly. Just let it go!"
"No, I won't! you have been nothing but a jerk to me since I got here!" He doesn't look surprised by my words, if anything he looks a little guilty. I think I may be seeing things. He lefts out a deep sigh "Let's get out of here and then we'll have this conversation."
"Once we get out of here I will be leaving, Christian so it won't matter anymore."
"What do you mean your leaving?" He tightens his hold on me as something else crushes against the side of the stable. The wind is getting louder outside and clearly, this storm is getting worse.
"What I said. Once this storm is over I will be leaving."
"Where are you going? Why?" Why does he sound concerned?
"I don't know yet, maybe New York. I'm going because it's the best thing for everyone. I don't want Tom getting caught in the middle of anything. I don't want to cause any trouble in your parent's home and I don't want to deal with your bullshit tantrums anymore."
"Bullshit tantrums! Are you kidding me? We both know that you are hiding stuff so don't do that, don't make out like I'm not on to something when we both know I am!"
"What exactly do you think I'm hiding?" I don't think he even knows himself or surely he would have said by now. "I don't know. if I knew I would tell you but that doesn't mean that there's not something!"
"Tell me what makes you think there's something, Christian. Do tell me?" He stays quiet for a couple of seconds seeming to debate his response. "Well for a start there's the fact that you lost your husband which I am sorry about but after that happened you went away for a whole year and yet you were happy to just move straight here. You didn't go back to see your family or Archie's."
"And? I know there's more?" I get him not knowing about my family life but fuck he's jumped to conclusions quickly. "This morning when you woke up on the sofa and couldn't remember how you got there then once you realized why, you started acting strange. Also, there's the matter of how you seem to be able to spend cash whenever you want but do not have a job. You may have had Archie's life savings but that kind of money doesn't last forever." Ok, he's hitting a lot of sore areas here.
"Christian, please just leave it alone. There are answers to all of your questions but I don't think that you will like any of the answers. Besides, I'm leaving once this is over so it doesn't matter, not really." Before I can say another word an almighty bang fills the air and the entire stable starts to shake like something you would see in a movie.
"Oh, fuck! It's here!
