Letting go

Chapter 35

Ch. 35 / 105 Feb 19, 2026

Molly

It takes several seconds to calm myself down enough to function but still, I'm shaking like a shitting dog. Hearing Tom call my name was a massive help, to know that he's ok brings me some much-needed sense of peace. He's running in our direction from the storm shelter but he's still a bit away from us screaming both mine and Christian's names.

I catch movement to his left and see the Tornado still going, still tearing through everything in its path and taking no prisoners. How many lives will be destroyed because of that thing? How many people will lose their lives to it? "Don't look at it, Molls." Christian gently squeezes my waist reminding me that I'm still somewhat sitting on his lap. "It's gone, we're ok, everyone's ok." His words are gentle but firm and I try to believe in them but still, my heart aches for those that won't be as lucky as us.

"Shit, sorry I'm still sitting on you like a sloth. Let me get up so you can move. I must have hurt you when I landed on you." I go to move but again he pulls on me to stop me. "Just keep your ass here women!" I swear he just growled. What the hell kind of human growls? I let out a huff but do as he says. I don't have the energy to argue with him and if I'm being honest with myself, I'm still finding comfort in him and I know once I move that he will go back to being his usual dickish self and I ain't looking forward to it.

"Molly, Chris, you guys ok?" Tom finally reaches us bending down and hugging us both with an iron grip. "I'm fine." I don't answer for Christian because I'm pretty sure that I've caused him some damage between climbing his body like a monkey in the barn and landing on his like a sack of potatoes not 10 minutes ago, I'm almost positive that I've left my mark on him.

"Good, Good. How about you, Christian?" He keeps ahold of me as he looks toward Christian all while not even commenting on the fact that I'm practically riding his brother. "I'm good Tom," Tom raises one perfectly sculpted eyebrow making me wonder why he believed me but not Christian. "I'm fine Tom honestly, now put your eyebrow back in place and tell me how my kids are doing. How is everyone else doing?"

"Rude!" Tom does a good job of faking being offended but he knows that neither of us believes that bullcrap."Anywhoo everyone is fine, kids are great, Katie even slept through it all!" How is that even possible? "No way, your kidding?" Christian chuckles out his question but doesn't seem too surprised. "Yep out like a light in Callum's lap the whole time."

We hear noises and look up to find everyone making their way out of the storm shelter and toward us and there is Katie sound asleep in Callum's arms while Jack is holding Brody and Zack is holding Sophie, the both of them are laughing and smiling and it's such a great sight to see.

Christian

I don't know how we made it through the Tornado alive but I send a thank you up above to whoever was helping us and got us both through it in one peace. Don't get me wrong landing on the ground as I did and with Molly landing on top of me was painful and I'm pretty sure I've damaged my shoulder but still, I'd take this pain any day over what could have been and over Molly landing on the ground and getting hurt.

She's tried to move off my lap twice but I couldn't let her. I dont know why but the thought of her getting away from me sends fear through me. I already know that I'm confused about how I'm feeling for her but it felt like more than that. maybe it's because she told me that after the storms over she's leaving the farm and us behind. Either way, whatever it is, has me holding on to her even when Tom comes over to us, even when I see my family heading our way I still hold on.

Seeing my family and kids heading our way makes my knees go weak and my heart skip a beat. I swear if I was standing up right now I wouldn't be able to hold my own weight. While Molly and I were stuck in the barn I had to tell myself that they were all safe but there was still a little voice inside of my head telling me that it wasn't true so seeing them all heading our way all looking unharmed has my eyes filling up with tears of relief.

Well, everyone except my dad that is. Where is he? I start to panic and Tom must notice but he's quick to start talking. "Dad's fine, he's in the shelter with Hunter and George. Jack has managed to get in touch with Mitch and he's already on his way here." I let out a huff of breath in relief that my dad is ok but I can't say that I'm happy about Mitch coming here.

I hate the guy. He's George's only son and a fucking nightmare of a person. He's done some shitty stuff in his time and even though he's apparently on the straight and narrow now I still struggle to think of him differently. Maybe I'm an asshole for that after all my parents always taught us that everyone deserves a second chance but they dont know half the things that he's done, if they did I doubt they would be so quick to give him that second chance after all.

Nonetheless, I keep my opinion to myself, He's doing the right thing right now and coming to help his dad so that's fine with me. I look across the field once more and take in the smiles of my children and feel my heart pound a little harder when I hear their laughter. That is without a doubt the best sound in the world.

I rest my head on Molly's back while I work through my emotions, I'm still holding her around the waist and feel a little taken back when I feel her gently rub my arm. "They are ok, Christian." Her gentle voice breaks through the whirling in my head. I look up to see her looking over her shoulder at me while gracing me with a beautiful smile. I know I've always felt some sort of attraction to her but Jesus I never truly noticed how beautiful she really is or at least if I did then I clearly never let myself acknowledge it.

"Daddy!" Brody's voice brings my attention back to the now and brings out the biggest smile on my face as I watch him run as fast as he can across the field. Molly stands up and steps over to Tom and I'd be lying if I said that I was happy about it but I appreciate that she's done it so that Brody can come to me.

"Daddy, you're ok!" He soon reaches me and throws himself at me pushing me back into the ground. My shoulder cries out in pain but I bite it back. I don't care about any pain I may have right now, I have my son in my arms after thinking that I may not get to see him again, and for that, I'm insanely grateful.

"Daddy!" Sophie is soon calling me while running to me and follows her brother in jumping on me. I give them both a kiss on their heads and squeeze them as much as I can without hurting them. I look up to see Katie and can't help but smile at her still sleeping in Callum's arms. I give him a nod silently thanking him but he just shrugs it off.

It doesn't take long for everyone to reach us and the next few minutes are spent sharing hugs and being thankful that we're all ok. I get off the ground winching when I use my shoulder to hold some of my weight and instantly regret it when I see a look of sadness and guilt on Molly's face. "I'm fine, Molly I hurt it this morning." It's a lie and I have no doubt that she already knows that it's a lie but still, It's the first thing that I can think of to say to try and make her feel better.

She doesn't say anything but the look that she gives me tells me that she's not believing me. Thankfully Jack speaks up stopping any more from being said. "Why don't we head back to the house and see how it's looking?" Everyone is quick to agree including the kids who I don't doubt want to check on their toys.

As we walk back I find myself constantly looking at Molly and every now and again I catch her glancing my way too. I don't know what's going on between us but I do know that there's something there and that we really need to talk but more than anything it needs to happen soon. Right now she has it in her head that she's leaving here but I have news for her, she isn't going anywhere, not if I have anything to do with it anyway.
