"I don't know. I've tried calling her but there's no answer." How the fuck has this happened? I feel Molly tense next to me but she doesn't say a word. I look up and catch Jack's eyes, he looks down at mine and Molly's joined hands then back up at me. I slightly shake my head silently telling him not to say anything and I'm grateful when he gives me a nod but doesn't say anything. If any of my other brothers have noticed then they aren't making it obvious.
"She can't be far, we got here less than fifteen minutes after the phone call. She's more than likely still on the farm. Maybe the Tornado was a good thing after all." Callum's words instantly piss me off. "How the hell could the Tornado be a good thing? What the hell is wrong with you?"
He gives me a strange look but I can't figure it out. It's kind of pissed but also amused at the same time and only angers me more.
"Chris, there are not a lot of buildings still intact here which is shit but that also means that there's only so many places she can be right now, there for making our search much easier than it would have been before the storm."
"He's got a point," Jack says as he steps a bit closer to us. I nod my head agreeing. "Yeah, he does. It's properly a shitty thing to say but he's right and I'm glad for it. Anything that helps me find my girls is fine with me. I still wish the storm hadn't happened though." I rake my hand through my hair feeling a mix of relief and regret.
Relief because the storm happening will properly be a major help in me finding my girls but regret that I'm thinking of the storm in any kind of positive way. A lot of people have been hurt, maybe even dead and so many people have lost everything that they own because of the storm. My heart hurts for them so feeling relief from the storm makes me feel shitty but still, I wouldn't change it not if it means getting my girls back sooner.
"I swear when we find her I'm going to stick my size eight up her ass so hard she's going to be chewing my boots for a week!" Laughs ring around the room as pretty much everyone laughs at Molly's outburst.
"Dam darlin', your a fiery little cookie when you get started ain't you?" Zack winks her way and it pisses me off. Molly puts her hands on her hips while giving him the best intimidating look that she can but I just find it cute, then I realize that she's let go of my hand and that pisses me off more than Zack just did. Fuck sake what is wrong with me?
"Wait... size eight? Your feet are a size eight?" I can see Jack doing his best to hold in a laugh but I doubt it will last long with him. "Yes, I am. Is that a problem Jack?" She's still trying to act intimidating but I don't miss her lips twitching and I'm pretty sure she's holding her own laugh in.
"Aww darlin', that's just cute!" I know he's just messing with her but even Jack's playful flirting towards her is pissing me off. "The best things come in small packages so piss off!" Her comeback is good and has everyone laughing. "Now how about less about the size of my feet and more about finding the girls, yes?" Now that is what I want to hear.
I take Molly's hand back in mine as casually as I can but before I can say anything to her my phone rings, taking it out of my pocket I tense up when I see Amy's name flash across my screen. "It's her." Molly pulls her hand back attempting to let go of my hand but I don't let her, I keep her hand firmly in mine refusing to think about the reasons why.
"Where are you?" I practically growl into the phone. I know I need to keep her sweet to get my girls back but the longer they are away from me the harder it's becoming. "Well, hello to you too." Her slimy voice makes me wanna throw up. "Where are my girls, Amy?" She scoffs a muffled response before laughing at whatever it is that she said. "They ain't your girls yet, Chris. Where is my money?"
Fuck what has that woman become? "I have the fifty-thousand now and the rest will be here in two days. Now where are my girls?" She lets out a small laugh. "I knew you'd find it. What you see in those kids I'll never know but hey, that's your problem... well, it will be once I've had my money." She goes silent for a moment before laughing and mumbling to herself once more. "They are in the storm shelter. They were complaining about being hungry, needy brats so I brought them here, I knew you'd have food in here."
The moment she mentions the storm shelter I take off running in that direction. I briefly look behind me to see all of my brothers following me while Molly quickly comes to my side running with me looking confused not that I'm surprised, I took off running without actually saying anything. "They are in the storm shelter!" I yell as loud as I can but I'm still not sure if they hear me, however, Molly does and she's soon keeping up with me.
It takes a minute or so for us to reach the storm shelter, I throw open the door and miss several steps as I race to get down them. "Sophie? Katie? girls, are you in here?" I know Katie can't answer but still, I keep calling both of their names. "Daddy... Daddy is dat you?" the moment I hear my little girl's voice my eyes fill with tears and my heart pounds so hard that I wouldn't be surprised if it broke through my chest at any second.
We get to the bottom of the steps but the whole room is in darkness. I know every inch of this shelter so I go straight for the light switch and flip it on but nothing happens. What the hell? we were in here this morning and everything was working fine. "Sophie, where are you, baby?" I try the switch again but nothing happens. We have another one on the other side of the shelter that is connected to a second light so I lead Molly through the darkness and flip that one but again nothing.
"Daddy I scared!" Those words shake my entire body and tear my heart apart. "Don't be scared baby, daddy's here. Where are you, baby?" What the fuck has Amy done? "I'm gonna kill her!" The aggression in Molly's voice shocks me, the tone in her voice is ice-cold and full of hatred. "Join the queue baby girl." Tom's voice booms from behind us while all of my brothers can be heard agreeing.
"Sophie, where are you, baby?" It's pitch black in here and I'm getting impatient. I feel Molly shuffling than a bright light blares across the shelter. Molly is using the torch on her phone to light the place up. Why the fuck didn't I think of that?
"Daddy!" She sounds even more scared and the slight edge to her voice alone is enough to have me on edge and my pulse spiking. "I'm here baby, I'm here and so are all of your uncles and Molly." We keep moving forward, this place isn't very big but in the pitch, black it feels massive. "Soph, is Katie with you baby?"
She doesn't answer me but I start hearing her small cries and know that she's very close to me. We continue to look around us using the torch on Molly's phone when a movement to my left catches my eye and then I see it... one of Sophie's cute little feet is sticking out from the travel cot that we have in here.
I rush forward while calling out to her and I swear the moment she comes out from under the travel cot and jumps into my arms my heart stops for a moment then jumps back to life. She squeezes me with all she has while she sobs her little heart out and breaks mine in the process. "Your ok baby, daddy's here. I've got you."
She continues to cry into my shoulder while her whole body shakes and my anger toward Amy intensifies. After a few moments, her crying slows down and her body starts to calm down too. I pull back from her a little bit so I can see her face and my heart breaks all over again, her eyes are red and puffy and her cheeks are tear-stained. "Baby, do you know where Katie is? Is she in the travel cot?"
She shakes her head looking sad. "No Daddy she not der." Where the hell is she? "Ok baby, do you know where she is? This time she nods her head and I feel a touch of hope fill my insides. "Where is she, baby?"
"She with mommy. Mommy told wait here and she went bye-bye." If Sophie is right which I think she is then that means that Amy left our two-year-old daughter on her own in the dark and has taken my baby girl with her. Is she fucking serious? Oh fuck no! This isn't happening!
