Letting go

Chapter 52

Ch. 52 / 105 Feb 19, 2026

Molly

It feels like the journey to the farm takes forever but in reality, it hasn't, if anything it's gone a lot quicker than normal because Hunter has broken more speeding laws than I care to think about right now. We head down the long drive that leads to what was once the farmhouse but instead of Hunter parking in the usual spaces he turns left and heads towards the field.

For a moment I wonder if he's lost his mind but then I see the tire marks in the grass and realize that we are following them. Clearly Christian or whoever was driving has driven this way so it makes sense for Hunter to follow. It'll lead us straight to them, much quicker than if we were walking, and if one of the others has driven through the fields then it's not like he can get in any trouble for it

Besides, the whole entire farm is pretty much upside down and inside out from the Tornado and with the amount of work that's going to need doing, I highly doubt a few tire trails in the grass are going to make things any worse.

We pull up alongside John's truck but there's no one in sight, everyone must be inside the barn. God, I hope they have the girls and that they are ok. What if it's not good? What if they are hurt? What if it was all part of some game and they aren't even here? God, it doesn't bear thinking about.

As we come to a stop I feel Tom slightly shaking beside me as he takes several slow steady breaths. I take his hand in mine and gently squeeze. It's going to be ok hunny." I try to sound convincing but I'm not sure how well I'm pulling it off. He gives me a sad smile but I plaster the best one that I can on my face and thank god that he can't read my mind right now or feel how much I am shaking on the inside

"Yes, your right. everything is going to be fine. I'll go in there and after the bitch has had her money and a slap from me we'll head back and make plans for the next chapter of our lives. A new one." I'm not sure if he's actually talking to me or himself but still, I nod and agree to do whatever it takes to help calm him down.

"Why don't you head inside and I'll wait here?" I don't need to explain any further as Tom's understanding look tells me that he already knows my reason for it. He lets out a small sigh before nodding. "Ok, baby girl. You keep the money here and I'll check things out first."

He leans in giving me a kiss on my cheek. "I can wait with her, Tom." Tom thanks Hunter before quickly jumping out of the truck and heading for the stable.

I watch him disappear through the door and lean my head back on the headrest while taking some deep breaths. "What a day, you couldn't write this shit!" A snort leaving my body is my response to Hunter. The guy is right, the best author in the world couldn't come up with this kind of shit.

"I mean seriously who almost dies twice? Leaves the place she currently calls home with only her phone, credit card, and the clothes on her back to then end up back with the people that she left behind so she can help them get back to precious little girls all because their mother is a giant twatwaffle!" By the time I finish speaking, I'm red in the face but I'm not sure if it's because I'm out of puff or if it's the anger that I still feel towards Amy.

"Did you just say twatwaffle?" Hunter's amused face has my lips twitching but I try to keep a straight face. "Yes, why?" He bursts out laughing shaking his head. "That is fucking amazing! Molly, I love you, girl!" I can't help but laugh at his response "I'm sure I love you too Hunter."

"Oh believe me you do, if I had had my way you would have been loving me for a while now." He gives me his famous cheeky grin and a wink and it suddenly feels like this conversation has taken a completely different direction. "What are you on about, Hunter?"

I take a drink from the bottle of water that Hunter handed me on the way here when I decided to have a good old embarrassing coughing fit. "Look at you Molls, you are gorgeous, inside and out. A killer ass and fuck do you have all the right curves in all the right places!" Yeah after hearing that it's safe to say that the water ended up all over me and the dash of the truck.

"Hunter, you can't joke like that when I'm drinking!" I try to look annoyed, but his cheeky grin makes me laugh more than I have in days. "I'm not joking, Molly, I mean every word."

"I may not have known you long Hunter but even I know that you are a giant flirt." He places his hand over his heart while mocking hurt. "I'm offended Molly dolly, offended!"

"No, you're not, you just don't like that I have got you figured out so quickly." This time instead of his usual emo of a quick come back he seems to think about it. "Yes, I am a giant flirt babes, I know it, you know it hell, the whole town properly knows it and yes I do... enjoy myself regularly but that doesn't mean that I don't want a forever girl at some point in my life. I've seen Christian raising those children and that is something I want once I meet the right person.

I'm shocked by his words, I never thought I would hear him say something like this but it's also nice to hear because Hunters is a good man and would make a great husband and dad one day so to know that he's thinking that way for some reason warms my heart.

This conversation may seem somewhat strange given the current situation that we are in but I for one am grateful for the distraction. "And do you have any particular women lined up for said future Mrs. Walker ?" He shakes his head smiling. "No, not yet but I will. Of course, I thought of you first but I wouldn't do that to a friend so I'm sorry Molly dolly but I'm afraid that you will just have to learn to live without me."

"Oh, how will I cope!" I fake dramatics but then his words finally seem to sink in. "Wait, what do you mean you wouldn't do that to a friend?" Hunter nods his head towards the stable and I follow the movement to find Christian practically storming towards us. He's probably pissed that I'm here. Oh, lovely here we go!

He's a good guy, Molly, he's been hurt badly, and it's made him insanely untrustworthy of people, mainly women but he has a big heart and will do anything for anyone. He would give his last to anyone that needed it. He's a good man. Just tell him what he wants to know, it'll be ok. Give him a chance." Hunter rushes the words out so fast that I just about manage to keep up with him. Wait, is he talking about Christian?

I feel like my mind has glazed over as I try and process Hunter's words but there's no time as Christian soon appears at my door and throws it open. He gives us both a strange look before focusing on me. "Why are you out here?" His words sound harsh and it shocks me. He knows why I'm here but clearly, he's not happy about it and wants me gone. Hunter's words once again race through my mind but I scool my look of shock and square my shoulders. He won't get one over on me. "I'm waiting for Tom. Do you want the money? I can leave with Hunter if you don't want me here."

"Out of the truck Moll's. Come inside!" He sounds seriously pissed and whereas usually it mostly leads to me being pissed today it doesn't. It's been a hell of a day and I feel completely drained and most of all I just feel sad.

"Let's go, Molly." He holds out his hand toward me but I dont move, I just stare down at it like it's going to start talking to me. "Molly my girls are still missing, they weren't here like we thought. We still need to find them and the last thing I need is to be worrying over you as well."

His words throw me a little but I remain still. "Please, Molly!" This time his voice just holds tiredness and sadness and it's hard to hear and see. I know he hates me but that doesn't mean I need to behave badly and right now it's the last thing that he needs. I take a deep breath and give him the tiniest of smiles before nodding my head and taking his hand letting him help me down from the truck.

He takes the bag from me and flings it over his shoulder before facing Hunter. "Thank you for getting them both here Hunter. Can you take the truck back to my dad just in case he needs it and I'll keep you updated."

"Of course, let me know if you need any help. Anytime, Chris." We watch as Hunter takes off and then we head for the stable. I don't know what's going on in there but as Christian opens the door I feel a tug on my hand and realize that he's holding my hand. When the hell did that happen and why didn't I notice?

Wait, he said that the girls weren't in here, why am I only now remembering that? I'm angry at myself for not registering his words sooner but more than anything I'm ready to end Amy. I turn to face Christian as my whole body shakes with the need to find that bitch. "Where are they?"
