Christian
"That was Tom, the bank doesn't have that much cash available which I suspected but they are having it brought in within the hour. And he's already ordered the rest of the money, it'll be here in two days." Jack looks pretty shocked at my words. "Jesus I bet that cost a fair bit to have it brought in that quick!" I nod agreeing.
"I still can't believe he is a millionaire." Callum takes a seat next to Zack in one of the plastic chairs that are lined against the wall. "I don't think any of us can. Why didn't he tell any of us?" Zack grunts as he fidgets in his chair while trying to get more comfortable.
"I don't know brother, but we're gonna find out!" I don't understand it myself. Since when did he have all this money? I've got several friends in the army and while they make decent money it's nowhere near what Tom is claiming to have plus if he's willing to give away one million does that means that's all he has or is there more that we don't know about?
As much as I want to figure this out I don't have the mental space to deal with this right now. My girls are stuck with a bitch that doesn't want them for at least another hour and even though I know that she won't hurt them, it still makes my whole body tense with worry. "The bitch better stick to her word!" Jack puts his hand on my shoulder and gives it a hard squeeze. "She will Jack. The bitch is all about money!"
When I look back at who she was when we first met and who she is now... Well fuck, it's like looking at two people, not one. How does someone turn so nasty and vindictive in such a short space of time and more than that, the worst thing of all... How does a mother even consider selling her children and also selling a child to someone who isn't even her biological Dad? She could have ended up in the hands of evil... Someone more evil than her own mother.
Don't, get me wrong there's a part of me, a very big part that is ecstatic that she's going to do this because I just want my children with me full-time and back to stress-free childhoods but I can't deny that there is a smaller part of me that hates her for doing it. She's willing to sell her own children. The thought of who Katie could have ended up with terrifies me because I have no doubt that if I didn't want Katie, Amy would find someone else to buy her and the possibility of what that could mean for her makes my blood run cold.
Zack kicks his chair as he jumps up clearly pissed. "she's pure evil!" I nod agreeing because he is absolutely right. "She's willing to let them grow up without a mom. Fuck Sophie and Katie won't even get to know how it feels to have a mom, to call someone mom! Brody will have to grow up knowing that his mom doesn't want to know!" My anger is once more rising. "How can she do this?"
"They are better of without her, I thought it before but after her doing this I have no doubt in my mind that they will be better of with no mother than her as one." Jack is right I know he is but it doesn't help the part of me that is both pissed and sad for them.
"And you never know... Maybe they will get a new mom." Jack looks serious.
I'm going to punch you in the face now!"
"I'm serious, Christian."
"Yes and so am I!" I can't even begin to think about someone else being their mom. That would mean trusting someone with the most important people in my life and trusting someone with my heart. I've done that once and look at where I am. It's been a long road of lies, cheating, betrayal, sadness, and heartbreak and I don't think I could ever risk giving someone my all and my children and have it turn out like this again. My kids already have to say goodbye to one mom I don't think they would ever get over saying it to another one.
My phone ringing brings me back to the present. I hope it's Tom saying he's somehow got the money sooner. I take my phone out and look at the screen but instead of it being Tom it's Amy. Fuck sake!
"Yes, Amy?" I sound calm and polite which I'm grateful for because inside I'm shaking with anger and have so much that I want to say to her but until I have my girls back and full custody I have to play nice even if it kills me.
"Sophie wants to speak to you... The stupid girl got herself all upset when I told her that I'd be leaving in a few days and not coming back. She won't stop crying until she can speak to you. Make her be quiet I have a migraine coming on." Is she fucking serious! I bite back the response that I want to give her but store it away for the day that she sings the kids over to me. She's not going to like anything that I say to her that day but she's still going to listen.
"Put her on the phone." I hear some commotion just before the angel voice of my little girl makes me forget everything around me.
"Daddy is dat you?" She hiccups in between her words while sniffling and it breaks my heart.
"Daddy's here baby girl. Are you and Katie ok?"
"Katie sleepy. She was sad and cried but I held her like my dollies and she went sleepy. I be'd careful Daddy." Her voice is the fucking cutest thing ever and hearing how my two-year-old daughter has looked after her baby sister brings a lump to my throat and tears to my eyes.
"You are the best big sister, Sophie." I don't want to mention Amy or her leaving unless she does. I want to distract her not upset her more.
"When you come get us, Daddy? I miss you!" Oh, my heart.
"I miss you too. Daddy will be there as soon as I can ok baby? Do you know where you are Sophie?" I doubt Amy let her see but you never know.
"We with the horsies Daddy, Elsa sleepy like Katie!" Turns out Amy is as dull as a brush, she has taken the girls to the farm. What was she thinking?
Jack moved away from me when I answered the phone, properly to stop himself from saying something to her. I silently call him over with my finger which both Callum and Zack notice as they follow him. I hold my hand over the phone as Sophie continues talking to me while I pray that Amy didn't hear her telling me where they are.
"She has taken them to the farm, they are in with the horses," I whisper trying to stop anyone else from hearing. The look of disbelief on all of my brother's faces matches my own. How the fuck is she that stupid? She also can't be listening to Sophie because nothing has happened yet. Sophie is still on the phone talking about Elsa.
"Daddy, you der?"
"Sorry baby, yes Daddy's here. Tell me again what Elsa is doing?" I want to keep her on the phone so I know if Amy discovers anything. I run for the exit of the hall with my brothers in tow. My dad wanted to come too but I told him to stay there with my Mom. She's already upset enough as it is.
I get in the driver's seat and place my phone on speaker while Callum jumps in next to me and both Zack and Jack get in the truck bed. "I've tried calling Tom but there's no answer," Callum grunts as he tries again. "Tom, answer your goddam phone!" One thing about Callum is he's the quietest of us all but once he gets pissed all hell breaks loose.
After two failed attempts he gives up and tries calling Molly instead but of course, she doesn't answer either. I find that I'm kind of glad that she didn't answer right now, selfish I know but I can't hear her voice, it does things to me and right now all my focus is on my girls and staying that way.
Callum's phone starts ringing out one of his usually shitty ringtones. "It's Molly." He quickly answers while I bite down on my cheek. Why did she have to be the one to call back? Why couldn't Tom? Fuck my life! It takes a lot of distraction and willpower but somehow by the grace of God, I manage to ignore the phone call and concentrate on the road.
"They are going to meet us there."
