Jane Wakes Up

Fiona stared at Mirenda for a while before replying to her.

"I will be fine. Besides, James doesn't know I live her now. A better place to hide from the enemy is in his own home. If anything, he would look for me in my old apartment. Again, it would be stupid for him to come here if he escaped prison this morning," Fiona said.

"Okay. You are probably right," Mirenda acknowledged understanding Fiona didn't want to leave the place but she also felt, Fiona was right in a way.

"Okay, I will be on my way now. If anything, give me a call and keep the place locked up," Mirenda advised and headed for the door.

Fiona breathed a sigh of relief when Mirenda didn't question her about the bag she was holding and the way she was dressed. After ensuring Mirenda had left, she went upstairs to her room and found the baby still sleeping and James lying in bed in just his boxer pants with his hand resting on the baby. He was gently patting the baby.

"I got you some clothes to wear," Fiona said and brought out a shirt and pants out of the bag for James.

James slowly got down from the bed ensuring he didn't wake the baby. He accepted the clothes from Fiona and put them on. It fits perfectly.

"Did you get the money?" James asked, his voice barely above a whispter, and Fiona nodded showing him the bag filled with cash.

"Good, I will need your car. I am sure by now my face is everywhere. Let see how they will find me with my new face," he said and Fiona just nodded.

At the women's prison, Mrs Haward was sitting in her cell with a smile plastered on her face. She knew she was goint to be free soon. The officer came for her and walked her towards a room.

"Hello, Mrs Haward. I am Ms Emily Johnson. I am your lawyer. I was sent her by Ms Maria to get you out of this place. I need to know your side of the story," Emily said as they both sat down around the table.

"Be honest with me. I don't want surprises. I have been asked to get you out of here and I will do so by giving you a clean plate. This is why I need you to be honest with me. I don't want anyone raising something I don't know about. I need to know everything to build my defence so no one can flaw me," Emily said and Mrs Haward nodded with a smile.

"I suppose you want the whole story about Jason, Julia, James and my involvement," Mrs Haward said.

"That will be great. Leave nothing out. Give me everything with all the details, right or wrong, good or evil," Emily said.

"Okay," Mrs Haward acknowledged and started telling Emily everything that happened honestly not leaving any detail.

At the hospital, it was five minutes past the hour six in the evening when Jane moved her hand. Mr Wellington quickly called Dr Andesh. She hurried into the ward with two medical doctors and quickly attended to Jane. She opened her eyes but looked very weak.

"From the physical examination, she looks fine. We will run some tests on her to see if there is anything we should be worried about," Dr Andesh said and left the ward with the medical doctors she had come with to give Mr Wellington some lone time with his wife.

"Jane, how are you feeling?" Mr Wellington asked holding her hand in his.

"I am sorry," Jane said and began to cry.

"Hey, hey, sssh. Don't cry, please. You don't have to apologize to me. I am the one who needs to apologize to you," Mr Wellington said.

"What I did was wrong," Jane said looking very apologetic.

"No, I failed to weigh the situation from all angles, hence my poor judgment. You did what you thought was best for the family and that can be counted as love. That is what I failed to see," Mr Wellington said and rubbed the top of Jane's head gently.

"I love you," Jane whispered weakly.

"I love you too," Mr Wellington replied, leaned in and planted a kiss on her lips.

"Get some rest. You will be fine," Mr Wellington said calmly.

"I am sorry for what I did. I thought you didn't want me any more and you didn't love me any more," Jane said, her voice barely above a whisper.

"I never stopped loving you, Jane. I was angry and acted out of anger, but I was glad to see you alive. You have no idea how long I wished for your death to be a lie. Seeing you at Taga's was both a shock and a joy for me," Mr Wellington explained.

"I am sorry for sending you away and driving you away from the life of our son," he added and kissed her again.

He wiped her tears with his thumb and planted a kiss on her forehead. Jane kept staring at his face looking very sad and slowly closed her eyes to sleep. Mr Wellington fetched his phone and texted a message to Jason.

Your mother is awake. She is doing okay. How is Julia and any news about James?

Jason was in the living room with Julia watching TV and the baby was lying in a small carrier on the sofa and Mary was sitting on the sofa adjacent to the one Julia and Jason were occupying. Jason's phone buzzed with a message and he picked it up. He read the message from his father and smiled. He typed a reply and sent it to his father.

Great to hear Mrs Welligton is awake and doing very well. My family and I are fine. About James, no news yet about his whereabouts. I have decidded to work from home for this week. At least untill we have news on James.

"My mum is awake," Jason informed Julia after sending the message he typed to his father, and Julia smiled hearing the good news.

"Great," Julia said. "It would be great to meet her," she added still smiling and it made Jason smile.

Later that day, at South Ranches, at dawn, when everyone was sleeping, James drove out of the compound with Fiona.

"Hello Black, is everything ready?" James asked hiding in the back seat with the sleeping baby while Fiona sat behind the wheel driving.

"Great, I am on my way," James said and ended the call giving Fiona's phone back to her. "I hope this baby is not going to wake up and start crying?" he asked.

"No, she wouldn't. I made sure of that," Fiona replied from the front seat sounding very calm.

"What did you do?" James asked surprised by Fiona's assurance of the baby sleeping all through.

"I gave her some sedatives," Fiona said like it was a normal thing to do.

"You did what?" James asked with a frown.

He touched the baby and put his finger to her nose checking if she was breathing.

"It was the only option I had. If she wakes, she will cry, and you have heard her cry before. She is louder than a siren," Fiona said in frustration throwing her hands in the air.

"I don't know much about babies, but staying a couple of hours with the baby while you went to get the money, tells me the baby is not as troublesome as you make her sound. Let's hope for your sake nothing happens to her," James warned and Fiona just rolled her eyes behind the wheel.

They soon arrived at the place. It looked like an abandoned building. James got down from the car after planting a kiss on the baby's forehead.

"Go home, I will call you. Take care of my baby and no more sedatives, you hear me?" James said to Fiona just nodded before driving out of the place heading back home.

James walked into the building and Black was there to receive him. The building looked like an old abandoned house from the outside, but inside, one of the rooms inside has a functional theatre.

"So what would I look like when you are done?" James asked and the man showed him a face on the laptop screen.

"Perfect," James said and lay down for the procedure to begin.

They made some changes to his face by changing the shape of his nose, lips and eyebrows. It took a couple of hours and his face was covered in bandage.

"We are done. Now we wait for you to heal and you will have a new face," the doctor said.

"You will have to stay here while you heal. Once you are okay, you will walk out of this place with your new face," the doctor said and James just nodded.
