Plan is on Course
After Fiona left, Mirenda sat in the office wondering what was happening to Fiona. She had seen Fiona on TV a couple of times and she was a live bubbling person. She remembered her from the press conference where Mrs Haward humiliated her. It was like a light inside her was turned off. Mirenda recalled how Fiona left the place completely shamed. Her mind shifted to when Fiona saved her from being run over by a vehicle. She was not this off. There was still some life inside her. She also recalled the setup meeting with James.
"Was James accusing her of drugs the last blow that broke the camel's back?" Mirenda thought but immediately remembered Fiona was pregnant.
"It's been close to a year since she lost her baby. O gee, James made her lose the baby. That means she has not been able to get over it," Mirenda thought.
"Stupid me. How did I miss that?" Mirenda said to herself and grabbed her phone.
She dialled Fiona's number and waited for it to connect.
Outside on the street, inside a ride, Fiona heard her phone ringing and she opened her bag searching for it. She finally found it and saw Mirenda's name flashed on her screen. She stared at it for a while wondering if she should answer or not. The call ended and she realised it would be a mistake if she didn't answer. Mirenda doesn't mind leaving the office to look for her. She was not ready to do the Q&A with Mirenda. With this thought, she unlocked her phone screen to call Mirenda back but her phone rang again. Her finger quickly pressed the answer button and she put the phone to her ears.
"Hello," Fiona greeted in a deficient depressing tone.
"Hey, Fiona, look I am sorry. Please forgive me?" Mirenda said, sounding so apologetic on the call
"It's fine," Fiona replied.
"Where are you?" Mirenda asked with concern.
"I just went out to get some fresh air," Fiona replied. "I am just hanging out around a theme park," she added. "Can I have the rest of the day off?" she seized the opportunity to ask.
"Sure. I am so sorry. I.. well. I know things must be hard for you, but we are all here to make you feel okay. My half-brother James was a maniac and my mum helped develop his messed-up attitude. I am so sorry for all you went through because of him and especially losing your baby," Mirenda said.
"Don't worry, your secret is safe with me. No one knew about your pregnancy. I will keep it that way. I will see you tomorrow," Mirenda added, showing concern.
"Okay, thank you," Fiona acknowledged, and the call ended.
"Poor Fiona, she might be going through a lot," Mirenda whispered. "Hmm, Henry told me, but I didn't listen," she said and returned to working on the files on her desk.
At the hospital, Jason had just arrived and Mr Wellington came out to meet him.
"How is she? Any news?" Jason asked expressing concern.
"Nothing yet. I am just praying she is okay," Mr Wellington replied.
"She will be fine. If she survived twenty-four years in some dungeon, she will survive this one too," Jason tried to console.
"I pray so. The day, her death was announced twenty-four years ago, I never stopped wishing, that one day she would walk up to me and say it was all a prank," Mr Wellington said and Jason frowned.
"Hmmm," Jason said, recalling Mr Wellington could not forgive her, but he only assured him, that Mrs Wellington would be fine.
After hours that felt like an eternity, Dr Andesh finally stepped out and walked the two gentlemen to her office.
"What is wrong with her?" Mr Wellington asked anxiously.
"We have managed to stabilize her. She will live," Dr Andesh said to calm everyone.
"So what happened?" Jason asked.
"The sachet you found contains a poisonous chemical. The chemical was also in the water, and traces of the chemical were found in her bloodstream. That is what put her in that state. We have been able to flash it out of her system. She will be moved to one of the private wards soon," Dr Andesh said, and Mr Wellington lowered his head.
"This is all my fault. I made her feel very terrible," Mr Wellington said, sounding sad.
"No, it's not. Her decision was out of her guilt," Dr Andesh said easing Mr Wellington of the guilt. "Even though you could have forgiven her," she said and averted her gaze.
Jason frowned and Mr Wellington raised his head briefly.
"She is sleeping now. Once she is moved to the ward, you can see her," Dr Andesh repeated with a little more details.
There was a knock on the door and a nurse walked in.
"We are done, she is in ward five on the upper floor," announced the nurse.
"Thank you," Dr Andesh said and moved her gaze to the two gentlemen. "Mr Wellington, you can see her now," she said to Mr Wellington and stood up.
"You can wait here in my office. News is already out you are here. The media may storm the place if you step out. I don't have enough disguise," Dr Andesh said to Jason and he nodded.
Dr Andesh and Mr Wellington, headed for the door after Dr Andesh offered Mr Wellington a disguise. The two stepped out of the office. There was a young man in the corridor.
"Do you need something?" Dr Andesh questioned the young man.
"Please which way leads to the lab?" the young man asked showing Dr Andesh a lab request form he was holding.
"Go back downstairs and speak to the receptionist. No patient is allowed in this area," Dr Andesh said coldly while Mr Wellington stood to her right in his disguise, with his head lowered.
The young man nodded and turned around heading back the same way he had come. Dr Andesh looked at him with a frown for a while before turning to walk Mr Wellington to the ward of his wife.
It was a pitiful sight when Mr Wellington walked in. Mrs Wellington was lying on the hospital bed motionless. Her eyes closed and she looked very pale. She had an oxygen mask on and a drip had been placed on her. He walked to the bedside, pulled a seat and sat down. He held her hand in his and planted a kiss on her hand.
"I am sorry. I still love you. Contrary to everything I said to you, I am glad you are alive," Mr Wellington said and kissed the back of her hand again after which he rubbed his cheeks with her hand.
"I just wanted you to see her. She needs to rest. She will do a full recovery, don't worry," Dr Andesh assured and Mr Wellington nodded swallowing his tears and pain.
"I want to stay with her," Mr Wellington said staring at Dr Andesh.
"I will arrange for that. I will have someone here 24/7, attending to her. You need to go home and rest. You can visit her. You can't stress yourself. Remember you have hypertension," Dr Andesh advised.
"Going home will stress me up more. I will be fine seeing her and knowing she is okay," Mr Wellington said and Dr Andesh understood.
"I will move another bed in," Dr Andesh said.
"Thank you," Mr Wellington appreciated as they both exited the ward.
Downstairs the young man spoke with the receptionist who directed him to the lab. He walked in the direction given and sat down in the waiting area after submitting his request form. He retrieved his phone and started typing;
I am at the hospital now and I saw Mr Wellington. I am sure Mr Haward is also here. I have heard some rumours going around. From how Mr Wellington looked, he fell for it. Everything is going according to plan. The plan is on course. I will await your instructions on what to do next.
He read through it and quickly sent it to Maria.
At Starlite International, Maria was sitting behind her desk when her phone buzzed with a message. She shifted her gaze to the lit-up screen of her phone and saw the number appearing on the screen. She picked up and unlocked the phone screen. She went into the messages, read the message from the man and smiled. The side of her lips curled up and a twisted smile played on her lips.
"Oh Mr Wellington, you just wait and see," Maria said with a smile. "Well done Jane. You did well," she added still smiling.
At Raiford Prison, Fiona's ride had just dropped her off. She paid the driver and stared at the building in front of her. She started walking towards the gate. She made her way inside and requested to see James. She was sent to a room and in a couple of minutes, James was brought in to see her. Some joy filled her seeing James look all better. She stood up and walked up to him.
"You have twenty minutes," the office said and the handcuff was removed from James's hand.
Fiona threw her hand around James surprising him and captured his lips in a kiss. James was surprised at first but quickly adjusted to the mood and kissed her back. His hands were all over her and things got intense between them.
"I miss you," Fiona whispered after breaking away from the kiss panting for air.
"I miss you too. Glad you came back," James said wrapping a strand of her hair around his index finger as he stared at her with lust in his eyes.
"I missed your body," James added and Fiona smiled.
