Game Over
"No, that is impossible. I checked all the accounts before I changed the ownership with the letter your husband signed," Maria said. ”It was from one of the accounts I paid the six partners from Haward’s International to council their contract and sign a new one with the Wellington company. I will be sending the prepared partnership contract to them today,” she added.
"Well, see for yourself," Jane said turning her laptop to face Maria.
Maria flipped through the accounts displayed on the laptop and they were all empty. She picked up the phone and after looking through a file she dialled the finance department extension.
"Come to my office now," Maria yelled on the call.
"Ma'am, please where is your office?" came the finance manager's voice.
"Don't ask me stupid questions. Come to the CEO's office," Maria yelled.
"Forgive me ma'am, but which of the CEO's office, Mr Wellington’s or Mr Jason’s?" he asked and Maria was livid.
"Are you mocking me?" Maria questioned.
"No, ma'am. I just want to know which office to come to," replied the finance manager calmly.
"It is your business to show your face in my office. You have five minutes," Maria said and put the receiver back. "Idiot," she whispered.
"Are we cleaned out or does the company have an issue we didn't know about?" Jane asked but before Maria could say anything, they heard a knock on the door.
"Come in," Maria responded and the finance manager walked in.
"You are the finance manager?" Maria asked.
"Yes, ma'am," replied the finance manager.
"What is the meaning of this? How is the company running without even a penny in the account?" Maria asked.
"Oh, ma'am. For easy monitoring and control of funds, we had all the funds moved into an account. The process was finally completed yesterday," the finance manager replied.
"What do you mean?" Maria asked with a frown.
"The company had multiple accounts all occupied with money. We moved the capital money to our main account and now moving forward, we will push funds needed for the company's daily operations to these accounts when the need arises. That way we can track when money moves and for what purpose," the finance manager explained.
"So where is all the money?" Jane asked.
"Inside the head account which sits with Paradise Hotel," he informed them.
"What?" Jane and Maria screamed in unison making the finance manager jolt.
"So how does this company get money to run its operations?" Maria managed to ask.
"We will use the request system. Once Mr Jason approves, it goes to Mr Wellington and he gives the final approval. The money goes into the designated account and it is used for the needed purpose for which it was requested," he explained.
"Get out," Maria said to him and he left the office immediately.
"Let's get Matilda, I am sure she knows what to do," Maria said and dialled Matilda's number.
"The phone is ringing but she is not answering?" Maria said.
At the airport, Mrs Haward had a scarf covering her head and wearing a dark shade going through the checkpoints. When she gave her passport to the lady behind the counter, she looked at it and shifted her gaze to Mrs Haward. Mrs Haward took off her shades and she nodded allowing her to go through to the next stage.
At the police station, Henry, Mirenda, and Jason were with the general.
"We think, Fiona is missing," Mirenda reported. "We also think, maybe James has her," she added.
"Someone called from a hospital, it appears James was spotted in the hospital last night. I sent my men to the place and they confirmed James was in the hospital," General replied.
"So what is happening now?" Jason asked.
"They will bring him in this morning. He was there with a baby," the general said.
"A baby?" Mirenda asked and Henry and Jason exchanged glances.
"He kidnapped a baby?" Mirenda asked.
"He claims the baby is his and he wanted to stay with the child," the general informed them.
"Did he say where Fiona was?" Henry asked.
"We didn't ask, but we can do that in a couple of minutes," the general said and his phone rang interrupting the conversation.
"Hello?" he said and Henry, Jason and Mirenda looked on.
"We have apprehended Matilda Haward at the airport. We are on our way to pick up Ms Jane," the officer reported.
"Perfect," the general said and the call ended.
"Mrs Haward, was trying to get out of the country but they have her in custody," the general reported.
"Good. Now, we just need to pick up her accomplices," Jason said.
At the Wellington company, Maria stood up to leave but three officers entered the office with the finance manager.
"What is the meaning of this?" Maria questioned.
"You two need to come with us to the station for questioning," reported one of the officers.
"Based on what?" Maria asked.
"When you get there you will know," the officer replied. "Now, we can either do this the easy way, where you come with us quietly or the hard way where we put a handcuff on you two," he added.
"Are we under arrest?" Jane asked.
"Yes. For attempted murder and you," the officer shifted his gaze from Jane to Maria, "For fake documents," he said.
"You got to be kidding me right now. Look at the documents. Mr Wellington gave everything to his wife here before he fell ill," Maria said showing the documents to the officer but the door opened.
"Jane, Jane, Jane, so you were only pretending," came the man who had just strode in wearing a mask.
He took the mask off and both ladies gasped.
"How?" Jane asked.
"How?" Mr Wellington repeated. "Interesting you asked. I think twenty-four years of staying in Mr Taga's basement had cleared your mind of who I am," he said.
"But you were at the hospital and they couldn't tell what was happening to you?" Jane said jittering.
"Dr Andesh, come in," Mr Wellington said and Dr Andesh also walked in making Jane take a step back in shock.
"I am sure you are wondering how I am still walking around alive. Bulletproof. Thank God you didn't aim for my head," Dr Andesh said with a smile.
Flash Back - Jane on Admission.
Mr Wellington sat in Dr Andesh's office.
"I think Ms Jane is faking, again," Dr Andesh said.
"Why will you think that?" Mr Wellington asked.
"I recognize the chemical. Twenty-four years ago, when she fainted and was carried out of the house to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. I took a sample of her blood to run a test before she died. I picked the chemical in her system. I did everything I could to understand what kind of chemical it was but there was no luck," Dr Andesh said.
"And it is the same chemical she is using now to take her life?" Mr Wellington asked.
"Yes," Dr Andesh said.
"She already told me everything that happened twenty-four years ago. I know she is using the chemical to take her life because I didn't forgive her," Mr Wellington said.
"No, Sir. That chemical would not kill her. Twenty-four years ago, she used it to fake her death and today, she is using it again to fake another pretence of death. A suicide this time. The chemical didn't kill her twenty-four years ago, why will it kill her now?" Dr Andesh said.
"Okay, let's say you are right. What do you advise we do?" Mr Wellington asked.
"Play along, while I look for a neutralizer. Let's see what game she is playing," Dr Andesh.
"How are you going to find a neutralizer if you don't know what chemical it is?" Mr Wellington asked.
"I have reached out to someone for help. I will have answers soon," Dr Andesh replied.
"Okay, if you are right, it only means she is here to take over everything that is mine. I need you to take my original documents and create a fake one. Make sure it looks authentic and put it in the place of the original documents," Mr Wellington said.
"What do I do with the original document," Dr Andesh asked.
"Keep that with you," he replied. “She will not extend her search to you,” he added.
"Should I inform your son about it?" Dr Andesh asked.
"No, let's not trouble him with this. Let's handle her alone," Mr Wellington replied.
Back to the present.
"The documents you made the changes to were all fake documents. That is why Jason was able to move all the funds," Dr Andesh said.
"Take them away?" Mr Wellington said.
"Don't do this, my love. I just want my rightful place in your life. I love you and I will never do anything to harm you. I only put you to sleep which looks like death. I planned on coming for you when we are done," Jane said.
"You still want to use this line? How stupid do you think I am?” Mr Wellington said. “Well, no, you don't love me. You already made it clear, it is money you love," he added.
"Before you go, tell us, who is Jason's mother?" Dr Andesh asked.
"My twin sister," Jane replied and Mr Wellington frowned.
"You had a family I never knew about?" Mr Wellington said and went on without waiting for her reply.
"So you took your sister's place to do this?" Mr Wellington asked, but he was shocked she knew what happened on their first night together after marriage, but also her sister could have told her.
"I am your wife whom you married. My sister was sick and dying. I was incapable of having a baby because of a hormonal imbalance issue which could not be corrected. My sister offered to carry the baby for me. She sneaked in and you slept with her. I only faked my pregnancy till my sister had the baby. She died shortly after having Jason. She was my only family member whom I kept hidden from everyone because of her ill health," Jane explained and Mr Wellington recalled she never saw Jane breastfeed the baby.
"So Jason is still your relation, your sister's son and you decided to team up with Matilda to torment him? Your nephew, your twin’s son?" Mr Wellington asked staring at Jane looking all pitiful.
"Oh, don't worry, we know all about your little plot. We only played along. We will soon find out if you are really Jane or you are hiding behind a surgery face," Dr Andesh said and the officers took Jane and Maria out of the office.
"Mr Jason is going to be surprised to see us," Dr Andesh said with a smile as they headed for the door.
"He will be fine but thank you for drawing my attention. I am not sure what would have happened if you had not," Mr Wellington appreciated as they exited the office.
