CIARA
The entire court verdict seemed like a real sham to be handing out a company I had fully purchased to Ryan. I wanted to challenge the verdict if not for anything, but for the sake of my son, but my lawyer kicked against it, saying it was just going to be the same result unless we had new evidence, so I was determined in finding one.
I arrived at work the next day and the news had spread like wild fire, surprisingly, he was already at work but what stunned me the most was the same girl called Mary that he was with the other day at the restaurant.
"Look who decided to show up forwork, very unprofessional coming to work so late! " He was obviously teasing me and I could see it in his eyes that he was enjoying it.
"Hi dear, I hope you remember me, I am Mary and is so excited to be working with you" Mary exclaimed with a sly smirk on herface, and obviously she wasn't excited about anything relating to me.
"Ryan! What is going on... Why is she here?" I asked with my gaze scanning around and searching for an answer.
"It is Mr. Lerman for you or better still you call me boss, and if you are so curious to know, this is Mary and she is my new personal assistant"
The words pierced deep into my heart, how many times was Ryan going to betray me for me to understand that this man was cruel and without a heart and would attack at every slightest opportunity that he gets.
"Why would you employ a novice that has no experience in the field?"
"Oh! You need to see her resume, she is a business strategist and will be helping with useful advice and tips for reaching out to customers"
A bright smile on his face while he explained, he was so excited and I knew that his cheek was beginning to hurt him.
"I believe that you know the way to the director's office, so run along!" He waves his hand dismissively at me, it was the most humiliating of them all, I swallowed all my spite alongside my pride and scurried through the stairs to my new office.
There was so much work to do at the office because Ryan kept on changing every system there and when it was almost late, Gerald walks into my office with a bright smile plastered on his face.
"Hey! How are you doing?"
"Not much as you can see, we've got a new boss and it is not going to be easy at all"
"You need to cheer up even for a while, how about we have dinnertogether, chat and clear your mind off some things?"
"That isn't a bad idea Gerald, but....."
"No but here, get ready and meet me in the car, I will be waiting" I chuckle softly with the funny face he made and he steps out of the office.
I powdered my face, apply a light make up, made sure my hair was properly dressed before picking up my bag and scurried out of the office.
He took me to a classy and expensive restaurant, the air around there was sophisticated, the exterior mostly made with glass, the walls inside we're paneled with dark wood and the lighting was dim and comforting with sets of crips white linens.
"Do you like it here?" He noticed the satisfaction in my eyes while scanning around the environment.
"Yeah! It pretty cool, I was aware ofthe existence ofthis place"
"More reason I said you need to have fun once in while, you can't keep cooping yourself inside and thinking of Ryan all night with tears in your eyes"
"No...That is not true"
"Yes it is, despite all the make up you apply, I still see the sadness linger in your red eyes each time you arrive at the office."
I lowered my eyelid, ashame that I have been caught in the act. "it is not Ryan that I think of, but my son, I miss him so much"
"Yeah I understand, I know you do". Just then the waitress walks up to us. "Good day Sir, ma! What would you like to have?"
"I will love some Italian beef salad, what about you Ciara?"
"Pasta will be fine"
"Okay, get us Italian beef salad and a plate of pasta with the best red wine that you have"
"Yes Sir" She bows politely and walks away.
"What are you going to do about Ryan and the company?
"My lawyer ask that we stall while we get new evidence before we can apply to reopen the case" "Oh! That is good" He replied but his gaze lingertender at me, I could see the way he looked at me, I was fully aware of it, but playing ignorant was my hope of him not confessing his love for me again.
Just then, the waitress comes back carrying a luxurious tray and carefully placed it on our table, she left and we slowly began to gorge on it.
It was so fun while ate, chat and laugh, he knew how sad I was and all this effort was to make me happy, but suddenly, Ryan walks into the hotel and stopped right at our table, his eyes drifted from me to Gerald while we were both stunned.
"Ryan! What are you doing here?"
"Ciara... What....Are...." He strutter, not able to form a complete sentence as he cease the bridge of his nose. "I have been searching for you everywhere Ciara and finally found you"
"Searching for me, why is that?"
"We have an important meeting that we need to attend right now, else we might lose the control and you know that they need your signature on it"
"Contract, we have no impending contract at the moment"
"There is and it came in today"
"What! Why am I just hearing about it right now?"
"Ciara there is no time for questions, let get out of here" He held my hand and dragged me out of there, I barely clutched onto my purse and when I open my mouth to speak to Gerald who was also lost for words, I could not because I wasn't sure what to say to him.
We both stepped out of the restaurant and hopped into his car before he drove off. "You could have at least let me say goodbye to Gerald before leaving"
"He is your friend, you can talk to him tomorrow" Ryan replied and kept driving, but I started getting suspicious when he was driving through the route to his house.
"Ryan where the hell are you fucking taking me to!! " I yelled out at him but he totally ignored but, his eyes glued to the road. I confirmed my suspicious when we arrived at his house as he finally came to a halt.
Ryan opened the door for me, and once I was out, he held my hand and took me inside. My eyes was still filled with curiosity wondering why I was here in the first place.
"Look Ryan, I don't know what dead game that you are playing, but you have to stop right now else I am going to sue you for abuse and kidnapping". I threatened but he was still as silent as ever, scurrying through the stairs with my arm tightly held.
Until we got to the roof top and my eyes went wild. "Wow!! " I managed to exclaimed, staring at how beautiful the place was, the stars shining brightly at me, it use to be my favorite place to be especially when I was sad or in a bad mood.
Standing right at the rooftop with the stars staring back at me, I could not help it as tears trickle down my cheek, somehow I felt elated being here and I could not even express it because I was shocked to see that Ryan remembered that this was my favorite place to be in the world.
"You remembered! " I manage to say, with tears trickling down my cheeks.
"How can I forget how bright your eyes become each time you stand right before this place and let all your worries out"
"Why did you bring me here?" I suddenly asked and wiped away my tears.
