Zoya's P.O.V
Placing my hand on the glass pane, I peer inside, hoping to gain some insight.
The living area appears tranquil, yet the contrast between its peace and the lifeless roses outside leaves me perplexed.
I tried to recall any folklore or tales I've heard about cursed objects or malevolent spirits, but my mind drew a blank.
An unexplainable chill ran down my spine, making me shiver as if unseen eyes were watching my every move.
As I examined the rose bush once more, I couldn't shake off the feeling that its current state was connected to Lily's untimely demise.
But how? What could have caused such an unnatural transformation?
Struggling to piece together the puzzle, I stepped away from the window, my mind racing with questions.
I felt the weight of responsibility pressing upon me, as if Lily's spirit is urging me to uncover the truth that lies beneath the surface.
Taking one last glance at the now-withered roses, I took a deep breath and gathered my resolve, circling around the house, back to the front door.
I remembered what Cam had done the other day, how she reached under the rug and took out the key. When I felt around for it, sure enough, it was there.
My heart pounding, I inserted the key into the lock and twisted the door knob open.
The door creaked softly as it opened. The familiar scent of aged wood and the faint fragrance of lingering memories greeted me, and for a moment, I found myself lost in nostalgia.
My fingers grazed over the walls, trying to recall the moments Lily and Ezra shared in this very living room.
But as I closed the door behind me, an unsettling sensation washed over me like a chilling gust of wind.
The feeling of being watched returned, this time with an intensity that sent shivers down my spine.
My heart quickened its pace, and I tried to brush off the eerie feeling as mere imagination.
Maybe it was just my nerves, still jittery from everything that had happened.
But as I took a few steps forward, the sensation persisted, growing stronger with each passing moment.
The house’s warm and cozy interior suddenly felt colder, and I wrapped my arms around myself, trying to ward off the goosebumps that prickled my skin.
The sound of my own breathing seemed to echo loudly in the now eerily silent space.
Gulping, I glanced around the room in fear.
But the room remained empty, with only the soft glow from the sun outside illuminating the corners.
I tried to laugh at my own paranoia, shaking my head to dispel the unsettling thoughts. "Get a hold of yourself, Zoya," I mumbled under my breath. "It's just your imagination."
Yet, the feeling of being watched didn't fade, and my unease only grew.
Every creak of the floorboards and rustle of leaves outside seemed to magnify, filling the cabin with an eerie presence.
With a sigh, I finally surrendered to my instincts. Something was off, and I couldn't shake the feeling that I was actually being watched.
I couldn't help but question my decision to enter this seemingly dormant house alone.
What was I thinking? I can't do this on my own! Should I just go back…?
With each passing second, the unease grew, and a sudden fear gripped my heart.
I felt vulnerable, not only for myself but for the life growing inside me.
Oh… I don't think this is a good idea after all. I shouldn't be reckless, because I was not only responsible for myself now, but also my child.
My mind raced with thoughts of danger, the possibility of Silas or some other unknown threat lurking in the shadows, waiting to strike.
Just when I considered retreating, I caught sight of the mirror that held my reflection yesterday.
This damn mirror…
It stood on the wall like an antique masterpiece, its ornate frame exuding an air of elegance and mystery.
Its surface was polished to perfection, reflecting the light that filtered through the nearby window, casting a soft, ethereal glow over the room.
The glass itself seemed to hold secrets, as if it had witnessed countless moments in time and retained a hint of the past within its depths.
I noticed that it was intricately etched with delicate patterns, almost like ancient symbols that held an enigmatic allure. There was an air of timelessness to the mirror, as if it had been there since the beginning of time, silently observing the world around it.
If any of the folklore and fairytales in the world had a magic mirror vital to the plot, like in Snow White, I would imagine that this was what that magic mirror looked like.
It felt as if I could almost peer into its depths, as if there was another world lurking just beyond the glass.
I gazed at it hesitantly, half-expecting to see my own worried face staring back at me.
But to my horror, I am met with a chilling sight beyond comprehension.
Instead of my reflection, the mirror held a ghastly apparition of Lily engulfed in a ball of fire.
Her mouth opened in a silent scream, but her voice was absent, replaced by an eerie, ghostly whisper that sent shivers down my spine.
"It's your turn now, Zoya…"
My heart raced, and my breath caught in my throat as I witnessed this haunting spectacle.
Frozen in terror, I couldn't tear my eyes away from the spectral image before me.
I knew I should fucking move and get the hell out of here. My brain was telling me to open the door and run back to my car, driving as fast and as far as I could from this place.
But my body wouldn't fucking move! I couldn't move!
I could only watch.
It was as if Lily's ghost was reaching out to warn me, to convey something of utmost importance.
My mind raced to make sense of this otherworldly encounter, but before I could process what's happening, my vision blurred, and then I was falling…the world around me fading into darkness.
