Torn Between my Alpha Mates

Chapter 119: Rumination

Ch. 119 / 177 Dec 10, 2025

Anika's P.O.V

As I watched Silas brooding over the battle plans, my heart sank with a heavy mix of anxiety and dread.

There's an unease settling within me, as if some invisible force is warning me of impending doom.

I tried to shake off the feeling, convincing myself that it's just nerves and stress, but the sensation persists.

"Silas, are you sure about this plan?" I finally mustered the courage to ask, so he would see reason. "I mean, challenging Ezra's pack head-on, it's risky."

Silas glanced at me, his expression tense and determined. "Anika, we can't back down now. This is our chance to show them that we won't be pushed around. Besides, we have more numbers on our side."

I couldn't help but feel doubtful, despite his words.

The truth is, I don't trust the outcome of this battle. My instincts are screaming at me that it's a terrible idea, but I dared not speak my fears aloud.

Silas was not one to back down from a challenge, and questioning his decision would only provoke his wrath. I wasn't afraid of him, but I feared that if I fueled his anger even more, he'd do something rash. Again.

I couldn't shake off the feeling that we're walking into a trap, that our adversaries were one step ahead of us.

But when I voiced my concerns for the last time tonight to Silas, he brushed them off again as paranoia and assured me that everything will be fine.

I couldn't believe Silas would let his emotions ruin everything we had worked for.

"Do you not believe in me?" He glared. "Do you not think that I've got what it takes to take them head on?"

I said nothing and only shook my head, leaving him alone in the room.

I needed to clear my head. Perhaps I can do that by going on a ride…

Going on a run would’ve been better, to let my wolf free and to feel the earth under my paws…but it had been raining recently, and getting mud on my fur was the last thing I wanted right now.

Leaving the house behind, I stepped into my car, the engine humming to life as I drove away from the pack territory.

The cool breeze brushed against my face, and the rhythmic sound of tires against the road provided a much-needed distraction from the chaos inside my mind.

As I drove through the winding roads, the city lights twinkling like stars in the night sky, I couldn't help but replay Silas's words over and over again.

The revelation he had shared earlier, about that Zoya woman not only being Ezra's mate, but his as well, had upended my world, and I was struggling to make sense of it all.

The streetlights cast long shadows on the pavement, mirroring the turmoil within me.

I kept going, letting the road guide me, hoping that the open expanse would somehow bring clarity to my conflicted emotions.

But no matter how far I drove, the weight of the truth remained heavy on my heart.

I took a deep breath, trying to steady my racing thoughts.

The night air felt cool against my skin, and for a moment, I found a semblance of peace. The city noise and distractions faded away, leaving me alone with my thoughts.

As I drove through the quiet streets, I found myself drawn to a familiar spot – a secluded overlook that offered a breathtaking view of the city below.

The city lights glittered like a sea of stars, and the night sky above seemed to stretch endlessly.

I parked the car and stepped out, the soft breeze carrying a sense of tranquility that eluded me earlier. I allowed myself to be captivated by the beauty of it all.

I thought back to the conversation he and I had when we returned home from that shitshow of a wedding.

Silas had been angry and adamant. His only goal seemed to be killing Ezra.

"I'll get him…" he had kept whispering under his breath as he took command of the steering wheel.

I had been sitting in the passenger seat instead at that time. And I had never felt so angry and nervous as I had been at that time.

I couldn't help but question how our mission had changed so drastically from trying to take over the pack as a whole to this singular obsession with vengeance.

What the fuck happened to the original plan we had agreed upon?

I couldn't shake the feeling that Silas had lost himself in his quest for revenge.

The original plan to assert our dominance and lead our pack seemed distant, overshadowed by his thirst for Ezra's blood.

"Why, Silas? Why this relentless need for revenge?" I wondered aloud, my hands balling into fists by my side. "Why would you throw away everything just like that?"

"He deserves to suffer, just like I did!" Silas's words echoed in my mind, filled with anger and pain. He had been talking about Ezra when he said that, and I hated how he seemed to be so set in his ways, like nothing I'd say could stop him from leading our pack to ruins.

I understood his pain; as someone who had been betrayed by someone I once loved, I knew what it was like to yearn for a mate, just so this pain and suffering can end!

But allowing his anger to dictate our actions and jeopardize our pack felt like a dangerous road to tread. His wasn’t the only life on the line here!

I longed for a return to our original purpose – rebuilding our pack, fostering power, and strength in our pack.

And taking over theirs.

"We can't let our emotions cloud our judgment," I murmured, trying to reason with him, even if he wasn't there to hear it.

I went back to my car and resumed my mind-calming night drive.

The road stretched ahead, and the early evening moon cast a warm glow on the surroundings, contrasting sharply with the turmoil inside me.

As the miles passed by, I found myself torn between my loyalty to my pack and the desire to steer Silas away from this destructive path.

The weight of responsibility settled heavily on my shoulders, knowing that I had to stand my ground against his stubbornness while still protecting the pack's future.

"Let's focus on rebuilding, not destroying," I whispered to myself, hoping my words would find their way to Silas's tormented soul.

Deep down, I knew that he needed support and guidance more than ever.

But how could I convince him to embrace healing over vengeance? The answer eluded me, but I was determined not to give up on him.

I had found potential in using him, after all. And unlike him, I wasn't about to let everything go to waste.

Taking a deep breath, I steeled my resolve. The road stretched ahead, winding through the valley, mirroring the journey that lay ahead for both me and our pack.
