Jake POV
Oh, Janey. How can you think you can get away from me?
Jane Brown.
I met her when we were in middle school. I didn't pay much attention to her then because she was one of those quiet, shy girls who liked to sit in the corner. One of those nerdy types.
Her sister was the polar opposite and popular with other kids. How can two sisters be so different? I never understood that. I used to think Jane must've been adopted or something.
When I first met her, I thought she was kind of dorky. She had this sweet round face and a cute little button nose. Her hair was long and curly, just like it is now. But as we grew older, I found her cuter and cuter.
But when I tried to ask her out for the first time in fifth grade, she shot me down.
I remember seeing her at the library and approaching her table. I had to work up the courage to ask her out because she didn't seem like the typical girl I was used to hanging out with. I could tell she was intelligent and funny, and it made me curious about her.
So there I was, standing in front of her, nervous like I'd never been in my life.
She looked up and saw me, and her eyes turned wide. "Ja...Jake Morris?" she stuttered.
Wait, did I make her nervous too? "Hey. You are Jane Brown, right?" I had asked, trying to sound friendly.
"What do you want?" She snapped.
Well, that's kind of rude...
"I was wondering if you would like to meet me at the movies tomorrow?" I asked. "My mom can pick us up," I added.
Her eyes turned even bigger, and she kind of looked like a fish out of the water. "I could never! You are a big, fat bully!" she cried and stormed out of the library.
What the hell?
I tried to reach her and talk to her again, but she'd run away. So I decided, you know what? Fuck that rude bitch. Ever since then, whenever I saw her, she would avoid eye contact with me, pissing me off even more.
But now, after all these years, when she tripped on me, something awakened inside me again. It was as if the beast inside me wanted to come out. I took pleasure in tormenting her. I made up a story about how I was in love with Liliana so I could get close to Jane. I tried to make things work with Liliana and get more information about Jane, but she turned out to be a jerk and dismissed me.
And then, when I realized she was going out with Aaron, I realized I wanted her.
Jane Brown will be mine no matter what.
I stopped Aaron before he went to pick her up for the party.
"What's up?" Aaron lifted his brow and asked.
"So you have decided. You will go out with Jane even though I told you I liked her?" I snarled. Aaron and I were close, but sometimes he could be such a douchebag.
"I like Jane a lot, and she seems to like me too," he said.
"She likes me more," I said irritably.
"SAYS WHO?" Aaron roared.
"Says the kiss we shared the other day. I felt heat and passion from her and she couldn't have faked it," I said proudly. There was no way she faked that. She was practically melting in my arms.
"She told me about the kiss. Not cool, man. How could you kiss your brother's girlfriend? Whatever happened to the bro code?"
"She is not your goddamn girlfriend, Aaron. You only went out with her once. And now that you know I like her too, you better back the fuck off," I barked.
"No way in hell," Aaron shook his head.
"Maybe you should go out with Liliana instead," I suggested. "She likes you."
Aaron made a disgusted face and I nearly laughed. "Alright, jeez. I get it. But what do we do now? We can't fight over her forever. There needs to be a solution."
"I am not giving up on Jane," Aaron said.
"Neither am I," I said gruffly.
"Whatever, I am gonna be late to the party, so later, bro." Aaron walked out without giving me a chance to say more.
After I arrived at the party, Mayra caught up to me.
"Jake," she breathed.
I looked her up and down. She wore a mini dress that barely covered her ass. Mayra and I used to have a thing, but I ditched her after I found her making out with my friend Brock. I didn't have time with cheating sluts like her.
"What is it, Mayra?" I asked her. My eyes wandered around, trying to spot Aaron and Jane.
"We haven't hung out together in so long. Can we find a place to sit and talk?" she said and touched my arm.
"No, Mayra. We have nothing to talk about. You were fucking Brock behind my back, remember?" I said irritably. Does she think I'm dumb or something?
"Jake, I am so sorry about that. I swear he means nothing to me! I love you!" she shrilled.
What the fuck?
"You don't love me, Mayra. Don't give me that shit," I barked and tried to get away from her, but she had a tight hold on me. She dragged me toward a couch and pushed me, making me sit, then she sat on my lap. Wrapping her arms around my neck, she looked at me with dreamy eyes.
"I really do love you, Jake. I'd do anything for you. ANYTHING," she husked.
I wasn't paying attention to her anymore as I saw Jane coming in with Aaron. She saw Mayra sitting on my lap and immediately turned away. Shit...she is getting the wrong idea.
"Want to come upstairs with me? I want to show you something," Mayra whispered in my ears.
"No thanks," I grumbled, my eyes still fixated on Jane. Damn, she looks good in that outfit. I sighed.
I watched Aaron take Jane to another room then I pushed Mayra off my lap. I must've pushed her too hard because she fell on the floor, hard.
"Hey!" she squealed.
"Sorry, Mayra. I gotta go," I said hurriedly, then followed Jane and Aaron to the room. I burst in to surprise them and boy, did they look surprised.
********
"We can't keep fighting over her like this," Aaron said after Jane excused herself to go to the bathroom. "It makes Jane uncomfortable."
"I told you. She is mine, and I won't give up on her," I said.
"Well, there has to be a solution," he groaned.
I opened my mouth to argue with him some more but stopped as I heard a commotion in the hallway. What now?
"Hey, Aaron, didn't you bring Jane Brown to the party?" a scrawny kid asked.
"Yeah, why?" Aaron asked him.
I suddenly felt worried. Was Jane in trouble?
