Chapter 45: Interviewing the Stalker

Ch. 45 / 89 Apr 03, 2026

"Who would do this!" Macie cried. "I can't believe someone would throw a rock through Aaron's window. He could've died!"

"I have an idea," I said.

Jake looked at me with surprise. "You do?"

"Well... it's just a theory, but didn't you say that girl across the street used to stalk Aaron?" I asked.

"What girl?" Aaron was confused. "Are you talking about Bella?"

"So you did notice Bella Davis moving across the street from us," Jake smirked.

"Of course I did. She invited me to dinner at her house, but I never went. I figured I shouldn't encourage her behavior," Aaron said.

"Who is Bella Davis?" Macie asked. She looked confused. I didn't blame her.

"This girl who likes me, but it couldn't be her doing it," he said and pointed at the note. "Bella isn't violent."

"You don't know that for sure," Jake shook his head.

"Why don't we just ask her?" I suggested.

"Oh Janey, we can't just march over to her house and ask if she broke our window! She'll totally deny it," Jake said.

True. We had no proof that she did it. But who else could it be? She was the only one who was still obsessed with Aaron.

"How about we ask her to hang out with us, then sneakily make her tell the truth?" I suggested.

"Yeah, why don't we also tie her up in the basement and torture her until she confesses?" Aaron rolled his eyes.

"Like in the movies! Great idea!" I beamed.

Aaron looked horrified. "I was joking! What the hell Jane," he shook his head in disappointment.

"But no, seriously. We should get closer to her. You know what they say, keep your friends close and keep your enemies closer," I said.

Aaron dismissed me. "You do whatever you want, but I am not getting any closer to her. She is so annoying. You have no idea."

"Yeah. I don't want her interfering with me and Aaron's relationship," Macie agreed. She looked at him and narrowed her eyes. "Are you sure there was nothing going on between you and this Bella chick? Did you two date in high school?"

Aaron shook his head no. "Hell no. We never dated."

These people are no fun, and I thought and sighed. Whoever threw the rock seems serious. What if she tries to do something more dangerous?

Maybe I would go talk to her anyway because I was too curious to let this go.

The rest of the day was uneventful. After I finished hanging out with Jake, I started to walk to my mom's car. I borrowed it so I could come over here.

I stopped in my tracks as I spotted Bella watering the flower garden in the front yard. She had her hair up in a ponytail again. Sun shone on her, making it look bright and fiery. She was wearing a light yellow sundress that complimented her pale skin. She looked so innocent. Could this be the same girl who was capable of breaking someone's window?

I know Aaron told me not to approach her, but I couldn't help it. Being nosy was one of my weaknesses. I wanted to ask her some questions.

"Hey, Bella," I called her quietly so I didn't startle her.

She looked up and smiled. "Hey! Jane is it?" she asked.

"Yeap, that's me," I said.

"What can I do for you, Jane?" she looked at me curiously.

"Oh, nothing. I was just wondering if I could get to know you a little. Since you are Jake's neighbor and all, maybe we can be friends?" I smiled. Hoping she didn't suspect me.

"Oh! That's very sweet of you. Of course! Why don't you come in, and we can talk?" she said brightly.

I nodded in agreement and followed her inside.

"Why don't we go to my room and talk?" Bella suggested.

Oh? I get to see Ms. Stalker's room? How exciting.

"That's a wonderful idea," I said.

I was gravely disappointed as soon as I stepped inside her room. It was nothing like how I imagined. It just looked like an ordinary room resided by an ordinary young adult female. Nothing creepy about it. No headless dolls as a decoration or no shrine dedicated to Aaron Morris.

She motioned me to sit down on the chair by the desk.

I immediately went into interview mode. Time to start grilling this mysterious redhead. "So, how long have you known the Morris brothers?" I asked.

"Since middle school!" she chirped.

"Oh? And when did you start to like Aaron?" I asked.

Her eyes turned dark. Too soon?

"Did Jake tell you? What did he tell you?" she looked at me curiously.

"Oh, not much. Just that you had a huge crush on him, but he never returned your feelings," I lied. No need to hurt the poor girl's feelings.

She looked down and smiled. "Yeah...I was a bit obsessed with him back then. I still am, I guess," she said.

Whaaa....I didn't expect her to admit it so soon.

"You are?" I beamed. Why am I so excited about this?

"Well, I wouldn't say obsessed, but I do like him a lot," she confessed. "I think he is an amazing guy. He had a bad reputation in high school, but he was never mean to me. And he was just so...handsome. I guess I started to have feelings for him then."

"Oh, I see," I didn't know what to say. She sounds normal so far.

"I guess I went a little overboard with my crush. It became an obsession. I started to do crazy things to get his attention. I even pretended to be his girlfriend to drive away other girls," she sounded sad.

"Whoa...that's crazy!" Jake had already told me about all this, but I pretended like this was the first time I heard about it.

"Yeah. I don't know why I am telling you all this," she giggled.

"I am a good listener," I smiled reassuringly. "You know Aaron liked me, but I fell in love with Jake because you can choose who you fall in love with, you know," I said.

"Really?" her eyes turned wide. "Then you know exactly what I am talking about! I couldn't help it. I still can't!"

"So, are you like...obsessed with him again?" I pressed.

"No, it's not like that anymore. But I still like him a lot," she said shyly.

Like him enough to throw a rock at his window with a threatening note? I thought.

"So, what were you doing earlier today?" I asked.

"You sure ask a lot of questions, Jane," Bella laughed.

I hesitated. She was probably suspicious of me now!

"Erm...I was just wondering because...I think I saw you come out of your house? Sorry, I am being nosy," I laughed nervously.

"I was inside my room the whole time, so it couldn't have been me that you saw," she insisted.

I wasn't sure if I believed her, but she sounded genuine. If it wasn't her, then who was it?
