After Aaron left, I felt terrible about the whole thing.
"Is he going to be okay?" I asked Jake.
"Don't worry, he'll come around," he reassured me, but his face was grim. I could tell he was worried about Aaron too. They did say they were very close. Oh god, I hope I wasn't coming between the two brothers.
I didn't want to hurt him as he was the first person to be so sweet and caring to me. But my heart wanted Jake, and I couldn't ignore it.
Was I a terrible person? I thought.
I shook that thought away immediately. I shouldn't feel guilty about wanting to be with someone. I felt a certain kind of attraction to Jake, and I didn't feel the same way with Aaron. It's not like I wanted to intentionally break Aaron's heart. What would I gain from that?

It has been a week since Jake and I started going out. People at school were whispering about us since it was unlikely for Jake to have a girlfriend, especially when the girlfriend was someone like me. Good ole, ordinary Jane. Not some hot blonde with a rocking body.
The same two girls cornered me after school that was flirting with Jake the other day. Seriously, I get the appeal, but why attack me instead of Jake? Besides, he can't be the only cute guy in school, no matter how highly he thinks of himself. These girls needed to chill.
"Oh, you must be from the Jake Morris fan club," I smirked. I was asking to get beat up at this point.
"The what?" one of the girls asked. She looked confused.
"Oh, nothing. What can I do for you?" I asked innocently.
"I don't get it. Why is Jake so crazy about you? You are just some goody two shoes. And you aren't even that pretty!" the blonde one said. Ouch, harsh.
"Oh em gee, I know, right!" I squealed sarcastically. "You should go ask him, though," I suggested. "He calls me beautiful all the time. He must be having a vision problem. You should tell him to go see an eye doctor and get fitted for new glasses," I said and grinned as the girl looked annoyed.
"I bet you let him get inside your pants. Slut!" the brunette said.
I haven't done that yet, jeez.
"Let's fuck her up," the blonde said. Jesus...what kind of school is this. I didn't know we had girl gangs around here. If I knew, I would've filled out the application to join.
"Ladies, please, there must be more guys here other than Jake! Give them a chance!" I exclaimed.
"I've been trying to get with him since sophomore year. But he got together with Mayra instead. I heard she is out of the picture now, and you just waltz in out of nowhere and take him away from me? It's not fair!" the blonde whined.
So Jake is a playboy, after all. I'm going to have to scold him later.
"Look, I'm sorry, but I like Jake. Even if you beat me up, I'm not going to leave him so you and your girlfriend can take a hike." I got serious and glared at them. He was mine now bitches.
"What's going on here?" All three of us turned around.
Jake was standing right there with his eyes narrowed at them. But then, he saw me, and his eyes instantly turned into puppy dog eyes.
"Your fan club is trying to fight me?" I laughed nervously.
"My fan club?" Jake was confused.
"We weren't doing anything to her," the brunette said quickly. "Let's go, Shelley," she said and tugged at the blonde.
"No, let's settle this. Once and for all," Shelley declared. "Jake, you can't ignore me forever. You promised if you stopped seeing Mayra, we would be together!" she said.
"I didn't promise you anything, Shelley," Jake looked frustrated. I wasn't serious about anyone before. But I'm with Jane now," he placed his hand on the small of my back.
Yay! Jakey is serious about Janey!
Shelley's face turned red, and she started to walk away.
"Wait, Shelley!" she turned around as Jake called her.
"If you ever threaten my girlfriend again, you'll have to deal with me," he said menacingly.
Fear reflected in Shelley and her friend's eyes. They quickly strode away.
"Seriously, Jake, will this ever end? How many girls have you slept with?" I said irritably.
"Hmm...lets see...Emily, Mayra, Shelley, the cheerleading squad..." he started to count with his fingers.
"Eww! You probably have diseases. You are never getting inside my pants. I'm breaking up with you!" I cried and tried to get away from him, but he grabbed me and then started to drag me away.
He pushed me inside an empty classroom and locked the door.
"What are you doing?" I gasped.
"I slept with two other girls before you. Mayra and Emily," his eyes softened.
"But..I heard..." I hesitated.
"Who you going to believe, Janey? The gossipers or me?" he said and put my hand on his chest. "You feel that? My heart is going wild just from being near you. It didn't do it for them, not even when I slept with them," he said and grazed his lips on my cheeks.
I blushed. My heart was pounding too.
"So..." he stopped.
"So...? I questioned.
"When are we going to do the dirty?" he asked.
I groaned and pushed him back. "Don't be stupid!"
"What? We are dating now, aren't we? What's wrong with me asking?" he pouted.
I looked down and blushed. "I don't know. I am not ready yet," I said, my voice barely audible.
I looked up at Jake, feeling a mixture of embarrassment and uncertainty. It was true that we were dating now, and I did have feelings for him, but the idea of being that intimate to him was terrifying.
Jake's pout faded, and he gently took hold of my hands. "Hey, it's okay," he said, his voice filled with understanding. "I didn't mean to pressure you or make you uncomfortable. We can take things at your pace, Jane."
I mustered a small smile. "Thank you...I just need some time."
Jake's eyes turned dark. "You don't fully trust me, do you?"
I hesitated. It was true. I couldn't trust him enough to give myself fully yet. What if he hurt me? He was my first ever boyfriend, and I didn't want things to turn sour between us. I leaned in to give him a gentle kiss on the lips. "You still have things to make up for, you know."
He returned the kiss, his eyes filled with tenderness. "Yeah, I get it," he said.
