Chapter 22: We Kissed

Ch. 22 / 89 Apr 03, 2026

At school, I saw Jake, but he just ignored me. I guess I made him very angry this time.

I couldn't stop thinking about our kiss. I've never thought someone would kiss me like that. It was so passionate and so...hot. My entire body shook with awareness every time I remembered how soft his lips felt and the way his tongue caressed the inside of my mouth. Ugh, who knew a kiss could turn me on this much and make a mess of me. I wanted more.

Screw you, Jake, for making me feel this way, I thought. He had moved on to Jenny in less than 24 hours anyway, so why was I do I even bother?

Besides, the date with Aaron went well. To my relief, Jake didn't come over and say anything to us, so we finished eating and then went back home.

I guess I should be relieved since the whole ordeal drove Jake away from me. He was ignoring me instead of bothering me now. But why do I feel this pressure in my heart? I missed his unruly advances.

Okay, something is definitely wrong with me.

I saw him hanging out with Jenny Patterson at the cafeteria. I guess they are dating now? Our eyes met for a brief second, but he glared at me and brought his attention back to Jenny. He picked up a lock of her hair and twirled it around in a flirty manner.

Jealousy welled up inside of me. That bastard was purposely trying to hurt me now!

I saw him leaning down and what it looked like, kissing her neck. Oh, hell no...

Now he was just showing off. This jerk thinks he could get under my skin with mean tricks, but I'm not having it!

I picked up my pizza on a tray and strode over in their direction. I pretended to go to the table behind him, but I purposely tripped and dropped the entire slice of pizza on top of Jake's head on the way to the table.

"Ugh! Gross! What the hell is the matter with you!" Jenny squealed on Jake's behalf.

"Oh nooo Jake! Your shiny locks! Oopsie, my bad," I feigned shock and gasped.

Jake stared at me like a fish out of water, probably trying to fathom what the hell just happened. Cheese and pizza grease dripped down from his hair to the sides of his face. His nostril flared, and I thought he was going to start yelling, but he just stared at me.

"It was an accident. Jenny, sweetheart, why don't you take Jakey to the bathroom and clean him off? Otherwise, he will stink like cheese all day!" I said and kept walking.

Okay, I'll admit it. That was totally mean and unnecessary. He will probably kill me later. I made some dumb decisions in my life, and this tops them all. If Jake liked me before, this scenario would undo it instantly. I was screwed beyond imagination.

Jenny was fussing over Jake, so I just kept walking until I disappeared from Jake's view, but not before I caught him staring at me intently. How angry was he? But I didn't want to wait and find out. Luckily, my table was far from him, and I could blend in with the crowd.

"Jane, what the hell was that?" one of my classmates, Lizzy, chirped as I sat back down at my table.

"What do you mean?" I asked innocently.

"Did you just dump a pizza on top of Jake Morris's hair and keep walking? do you have a death wish?" Lizzy exclaimed.

I winced. "Um, that was an accident. I'm sure Jake will forgive me," I said.

"Jake? Forgive you? Hah! I will miss you, Jane. You had a nice life," Lizzy laughed.

"Fuck off! It's not that serious. I'll just avoid Jake for the rest of the school year," I said dismissively.

Lizzy shook her head. "Good luck with that."

Ah yes, I needed all the luck to survive Jake.

I got a text from Aaron asking me to hang out with him after school. Oh good, as long as I'm with Aaron, I will be safe from Jake's wrath. He was waiting for me in the parking lot, so I immediately jumped into his car.

"Are you okay?" Aaron asked after we got together.

"Yeah...sorry, I just got distracted, you were saying?" I said. My mind was still filled with the thoughts of Jake because I am a terrible person.

"Nothing, you wanna get out of here?" he asked.

"Yeah, sure. Where?" I asked.

"How about my house? We haven't had a lot of alone time," he said.

"Um..okay," I agreed distractedly.

I regretted coming to his house as soon as I arrived. What if I run into Jake? He lived here too. Ugh, why did they have to be brothers?

"I really like you, Jane. I think you are a great girl," Aaron said after a moment. But, things were still pretty awkward between us because I just couldn't shake off this uneasy feeling off me. The memory of me kissing Jake haunted me, and the guilt was eating me inside.

"Ehh...thank you, you are pretty amazing yourself," I said awkwardly when I couldn't figure out what else to say.

Aaron chuckled. "I am glad you think so," he said and leaned in to kiss me.

I suddenly felt guilty. I couldn't deceive Aaron like this. Even if nothing was happening between Jake and me, Aaron deserved to know the truth.

"Wait, I can't. I have to tell you something," I said.

"What is it?" his eyes were full of worry.

"I...well...Jake..." I could find the right words. Just say it, Jane. What have you got to lose? Don't be a ho and tell Aaron the truth!

"What about Jake? Did he do something to you? I swear I am gonna kil-..."

"We kissed!" I couldn't hold it anymore. There, I said it. I stared at Aaron and waited for him to burst into flames.
