The Ugly One

Chapter 21: We Can Do That Too

Ch. 21 / 89 Apr 03, 2026

This sucks!

I should be happy and carefree since I could be with Aaron, one of the hottest guys in school. And not to mention an actual nice guy!

Not like Jake, who acted like a horse's ass.

But here I was, bawling into my pillow, getting my feelings hurt. Why do I care anyway? It's not like he meant what he said earlier. There was no way he actually liked me. He was playing some kind of sick game with both Aaron and me. Maybe he thinks he will feel like a winner if he stole me away from his brother.

Well, I won't let him. Not in a million years.

I grabbed my phone and furiously texted Aaron. He will come over and rescue me tomorrow, and then I will forget all about Jake. But I wasn't sure I should tell Aaron about the kiss yet. What if Aaron got angry at me and broke things off?

The next day, Aaron arrived on time to pick me up for our date.

I bounced my way to his car and slid in without saying another word. "Where are we going?" I said.

Aron tilted his eyebrow and looked at me sideways. "What's the matter? Did something happen?"

"Huh? No, no, everything is great," I said quickly. Did I sound frantic? Shoot, I didn't mean to.

"Are you sure, Jane? you know you can talk to me about anything, right?" Aaron said.

Oh man, he really is a nice guy. I shouldn't get so bothered by Jake. he doesn't deserve me at all! I smiled at Aaron.

"Yes, I'm sure. I just...I missed you, and I want to see you. Is that so wrong?"

Aaron chuckled. "Of course not. I'm flattered. I didn't think you'd like me that much."

"What's not to like? You are hot, you are nice and a great kisser," I touched him flirtatiously.

"What a stellar review! Are you sure everything is okay? Why do I feel like you are hiding something?" Aaron narrowed his eyes.

Fuck me...he is onto me!

"So, where are we going?" I attempted to change the subject, hoping he'd take my bait.

"I thought I'd take you to this restaurant I like. I'm a regular there, so they give me discounts," Aaron winked.

"Oh, great. I am starving!" I chirped. "Let's get this show on the road!"

Aaron laughed again and started the car. On our drive over to the restaurant, I successfully erased Jake from my mind. He means nothing to me, and that kiss meant nothing. He had been bullying me since day one, so I couldn't just forget about all that! He needs to grovel and make better apologies if he expects me to like him.

I am a strong woman and need no Jake!

"This restaurant seems fancy. I don't think I can afford food here," I winced as we sat down on the table. The waitress sounded like she came right out of France and I felt underdressed.

"Don't be silly, Jane. I am paying," Aaron said dismissively.

"But this is only our third date! I can't let you pay for my food!" I protested. I wasn't going to be taking advantage of him just because he liked me.

"What are you saying? People do a lot more during their third date than picking up tabs." Aaron winked.

Was he insinuating se-...

Stop it, Jane. Stop the dirty thoughts. Aaron wasn't insinuating anything.

"Err...what do you mean?" I let out a nervous laugh.

Aaron winced. "Nothing. I shouldn't have said that. I should be a gentleman. Besides, we should wait for your eighteenth birthday.

OH MY GOD, Aaron Morris is thinking about having sex with me!

Quick, Jane! Think about something witty so you can blow him out of the water!

"I make a delicious cake for birthdays, we can eat it together," I said lamely.

Fuck...I am so lame.

Aaron smiled and looked at the menu. "What do you fancy tonight?"

I stared at the menu but couldn't decide as everything sounded too fancy and foreign. Why couldn't he just take me to get a Big Mac instead?

"Don't look, but Jake is here too," Aaron suddenly whispered.

What? Is Jake stalking me now? What the hell is wrong with him!

I hid my face behind a menu and tried to sneak a look. "What is he doing?" I whispered.

Aaron squinted. "I think he is on a date. I don't recognize the girl though."

On a date? So he already moved on!! Asshole.

I slapped the menu back on the table and turned my head so I could get a better view. Rest assured, Jake was indeed with a girl. I recognized her from school. Jenny Patterson.

"That's Jenny from my math class. Jake sure moved on fast," I said bitterly.

"Moved on?" Aaron looked at me questioningly.

Shoot, I forgot. Aaron doesn't know I kissed Jake and how he told me he liked me too.

"Liliana! Remember how he was interested in my sister? He moved on from her fast, didn't she?" I said quickly.

Aaron shrugged. "Yeah, I guess. It doesn't take long for Jake to find someone."

I bet it doesn't, that manwhore.

Jake suddenly looked up and our eyes met.

Dammit...what if he came over to our table and tried to mess this date up? Kind of like what he did on our first date.

But Jake looked away and focused on Jenny. He reached over and touched her hair and then whispered something in her ear. Jenny burst into a fit of giggles like Jake was the most hilarious guy she had ever met.

"What is she all giggling about? Jake isn't that funny," I blurted out.

"Forget about him. Let's focus on our date. I don't want him to come over here and interrupt our date like the first time," Aaron said dismissively.

Good, Aaron was thinking the same thing as me. We get each other so well!

I proceeded to turn my head away slowly but stopped as I saw Jake kissing Jenny with his eyes closed.

"Right in the middle of the restaurant! Ugh, has he no decency?" I snapped.

Aaron grinned. "We can do that too if you are feeling left out."

"No way, I am a good girl, so I'll stuff my mouth with salmon instead of your tongue," I said. I immediately hoped I didn't sound too harsh, but Aaron just laughed at me.

"Damn, okay! I was just wondering." He smirked.

My eyes keep darting over to Jake's table. He still had his lips locked on Jenny. I remembered the way he kissed me last night, and I felt a flutter in my stomach. I wished he was kissing me instead of Jenny.

Wait, why was I wishing it was me he was kissing? Disgusting. I don't want him. I'm here with... wait, what is his name? Aaron! Yes, the man that I like. Not Jake, with his stupid perfect hair and muscular shoulders.

Boy, I'm going to in so much trouble if I keep harboring these unwanted feelings for Jake.
