The Legal Wife

Chapter 16

Ch. 17 / 45 Dec 06, 2025

DAD

Kristoff kissed me! I can’t even count how many kisses he has given me since this morning. I can do nothing but just sigh. Sigh in happiness and content. I like this feeling very much.

Well, who wouldn’t like this feeling? The person I loved all these years loves me back. Isn’t that a good feeling?

Maybe not.

Because it is the best feeling ever.

Who would expect someone who you thought has never laid his eyes on you to be crushing on you all this time?

So, we were feeling mutual feelings for each other all these times. How did he manage to keep all those feelings in?

But one thing is still unanswered in my mind. Who is that Bianca Lee to him? Why is she clinging to him to the she would tell everyone in the world that they have history?

Just thinking about it makes me really bothered.

Kristoff looked—or stared—at me while I was seated across him in the table.

I looked back, biting back this stupid smile that hasn’t been erased in my lips since he told me he loves me. “What?” I asked, trying to act calm—well in fact I want to jump up and down right now.

I can only celebrate in my head because it would be weird if I jumped and down in front of him right now, right?

Kristoff smirked and shook his head. “Nothing. I just want to stare at you for a long time,” he replied.

I unknowingly blushed automatically. “Well, I believe you shouldn’t do that when I am eating.” I shot back, earning a chuckle from him.

“You know what, Ashanti? You are just so good to be true,” he said. I narrowed my eyes on him, questioning. “How did you manage to break into me like this?” he asked me.

I blinked at him.

“You are making me crazy. Crazily in love with you,” he said as these cheeks of mine pinked all the way—like a common reaction for statements like that.

“And you look cute when you blush?” He added as he drank his coffee, smirking.

Wait, is that even possible?

How could he manage to smirk when he is drinking something?

I sighed as I continued eating. My life span is decreasing because of Kris’ sweet talks.

“Should we go out today?” he asked me.

I looked at him, thinking.

He raised his brow. “What? Are you going to make your husband sad today?” he asked—tried to ruin my conscience.

I grimaced. “What if I said yes, I want to make you sad today?” I tried to kid around.

He scoffed. “Are you that bad, Mrs. Marx?” he asked.

I winced when he called me Mrs. Marx because I am not used to him calling me that. Everything is just setting in. And I have to do it gradually.

Slowly.

He chuckled. “What? You don’t like me calling you, Mrs. Marx?” he asked again.

I shut my eyes. I know he is playing with me now. I know he knows that I am still adjusting and he is making fun of me.

“I don’t like to go out today?” I replied, trying to bug him back.

He leaned forward, closer to me. “Really? Even with this handsome face in front of you?” he asked me.

I scoffed. “Conceited, Mr. Marx.” I shot back.

He raised his brow. “So, I am not handsome?” he asked again.

I laughed at him, not answering his question. Why would I? Silence means yes doesn’t it?

Here I am now, holding hands with this tall guy who is grinning all his way to this mall. I thought we are really going to go out. I never thought we would just walk around the mall.

This is not going out for me. Mall is indoors. Not out. So, this definitely doesn’t count.

Kristoff looked at me as I was boringly looking at the stalls and marts. “You don’t like malls?” he asked me.

I gave him a weak smile. I know he doesn’t know what my likes and dislikes are since I am not going out with him a lot before—except of anniversaries and special dates.

He sighed and messed his hair. “Sorry? I didn’t know where to take you,” he told me. “I just wanted to take you out,” he added.

I shook my head. “It’s fine with me,” I replied. “Let’s just eat?” I suggested as I hooked my arm into his.

He smiled and nodded. “So, where do you want to eat?” he asked me as we started walking and looking around restaurants.

I looked around and saw a familiar figure in one of the exclusive restaurants. “Kristoff, is that dad?” I asked him as I pointed at the figure.

Kristoff looked at the direction I was pointing and narrowed his eyes. “I think so,” he replied. But why did he sound a bit nervous?

“Let’s go there,” I told him as I started walking to the restaurant.

He held me back. “Wait, Baby. Maybe your dad’s talking to someone important,” he said.

I looked back at my dad. He is talking to someone—to a girl. But the girl’s back is facing us so I don’t know who she is.

I looked at Kristoff who looks afraid or something. Are they hiding something from me?

I gave Kristoff a serious look. “Are you hiding something from me?” I asked him.

Kristoff shook his head immediately. “No! Why would I hide something from you?” he asked me back defensively.

I raised my brow. “Yeah, why would you?” I asked back. Sarcasm is very evident in my retort

I looked at my dad. I definitely want to go there.

It feels so weird. Today is my dad’s office day and he usually doesn’t leave his office on office days. He is workaholic. He even asks his meetings to be inside the office not outside. So why the hell is he with someone, let alone a girl, on a restaurant in a mall?

I don’t get the hang of this!

I looked at Kristoff. “If you don’t want to come with me, I’ll go by myself,” I told him as I walked to restaurant.

“Ashanti!” I heard him call and run behind me.

I disregarded him and walked straight. It seems like he knows something I don’t. And what I don’t get the most is that why doesn’t he want me—us—to eat in this restaurant?

They really seem like they are hiding something from me.

And I don’t like it.

I walked straight to my dad’s place and was shocked when I recognized who he was talking with.

Bianca Lee.

My dad is talking to Bianca Lee. So that is why Kristoff doesn’t want me to enter here. Damn, why does my heart hurt a lot? He knew? Kristoff knew? Why do I feel betrayed?

“Shan!” Kristoff called me as he ran to me.

I ignored him and walked slowly to my dad and was stopped when I heard Bianca talk to my father.

“I am thankful that you acknowledge me, Dad.”

It feels like my world is falling under my feet. Kristoff was holding my hand but I felt alone. Tears were brimming and were threatening to fall.

Bianca looked at me and Kristoff. “Dad, Ashanti is here.” She smiled.

My dad looked at me, shocked, while I looked devastated. “Ashanti…” he mumbled.

But no, I wasn’t going to hear anything out. I was hurt.

And I ran away.
