The Legal Wife

Special Chapter 3

Ch. 42 / 45 Dec 06, 2025

ASHANTI

“Please come to the bridal shower party!” Genevieve beamed at me as she just barged into my office like this. It’s her wedding in two weeks. Finally! We worked our butts off for this wedding because Genevieve wanted a different theme. She wanted a horror theme. According to her, marriage is scary. Hence, horror theme.

I looked at her. “You know Kristoff won’t approve that kind of idea,” I replied.

She pouted then walked to my desk. “Well they have this thing called Bachelor Bash and I think Kristoff told Chester that he would come,” she told me as she sat on the chair in front of my desk.

My eyes widened at her. “What?!” I asked in disbelief.

Genevieve nodded at me.

I shut my eyes and contained my cool. How could he do this? He told me he wouldn’t go because he doesn't want me to go!

I sighed hard.

Genevieve looked at me. “So what? Are you coming or what?” she asked me.

I closed my eyes. “Fine.” I muttered.

You'll see, Kristoff Marx. You'll see.

“Baby, what do we have for dinner?” Kristoff came down from his office and hugged me from behind while I was cooking for dinner.

“You have eyes. You can see what I'm cooking,” I told him coldly.

“Woah!” he exclaimed at my coldness. “What's making you grumpy?” he asked me but he's still hugging me.

I rolled my eyes even though he couldn't see.

“I’m going to the Bridal shower,” I told him instead.

Kristoff froze for a moment before breaking off the hug and coming to my side. “What? I thought—”

“I thought so, too, Kristoff,” I told him as I pressed the burner off.

I heard Kristoff sigh then followed me to the dinner table.

“What’s wrong?” he asked me, trapping me in between his body and the table.

I narrowed my eyes on him. “What’s wrong? What do you mean what’s wrong?” I retorted.

He shut his eyes for a second then sighed, looking at me again.

“Why are you so grumpy? And why are you going?” he asked me. His tone is getting serious.

I glared at him. “What do you think?” I asked him back.

He sighed and messed his hair. “How would I know what you’re thinking right now?” He exasperated. “I thought we've had a deal about this already!” he beamed.

“I thought so, too!” I replied. “But Genevieve said you told Kim Chester that you would go to his Bachelor Bash!”

Kristoff blinked at my cry. See? He’s guilty! He looked at me and smiled. “I just told Chester I would come but I won't because I know that he would not stop until I said yes.” He explained.

I narrowed my eyes at him. “You—”

I was cut when his lips landed on mine. He gave me a quick kiss and suddenly, all the anger and annoyance in me disappeared.

“So, you’re angry because of that?” he asked me.

I sighed and nodded. He chuckled and pulled in me for a tight hug. “Sorry.” He cooed as he caressed my back. “I should've told you.”

I bit my lip as I buried my face in his broad chest.

“Don’t go,” he told me. “Don't go to the bridal shower.”

I widened my eyes. What do I do now? How would I back out from Genevieve now? She would never forgive me!

“But Genevieve would kill me if I didn’t go!” I beamed at Kristoff.

He gave me a look. “Then you shouldn’t have agreed in the first place!” he beamed back.

I raised my brow at him. “Then you shouldn’t have told Chester you were going, too!” I snapped at him. “You know how irritating those two could get!”

He sighed and shut his eyes. I could see that he is trying to calm himself down. “Please. Let’s not fight over this,” he told me. “I don’t want to fight with you.”

I sighed hard. “How could we not fight about this?” I asked. I feel bad that we had to argue about these simple pre-wedding parties.

He looked at me before nodding. “Okay fine. You go to the bridal shower.” He conceded.

“How about you? You're still not going?” I asked. I feel bad that he has to always be the one to compromise. I feel bad that he always had to be the one to make ends meet for our relationship.

He looked at me weirdly. “Ash—”

“You can go, too,” I told him. “I me—”

“I don't want to go.” He cut me. “I'll just stay home.”

I frowned at him. “Then what does that make me?” I asked him. “You go,” I told him.

What the hell? Just moments ago, we were arguing because we won’t allow each other to go. But now, we're actually making one go.

Kristoff looked at me. “But—”

“No buts.” I cut him off this time. “You go, I go. We’re both going.” I smiled at him.

He looked at me weirdly before smiling as well. “You really know how to make me submit myself to you,” he told me.

I raised my brow. “How?” I asked, confused.

“Your smile,” he replied then he pulled down for another kiss.

“Here he goes, ladies!” Hana beamed. “Here comes the highlight of the night!” She shouted then the door revealed a big box looking like a present.

The girls all screamed while I watched. Bored as hell. I knew it. I shouldn’t have come.

The present seemed to open up and revealed a topless man wearing just jeans and a bow tie. This is exactly how bridal showers happen in movies. I can't believe I'm seeing one in real life.

The man is dancing to an erotic song and the girls are shouting in delight.

Genevieve was just smiling at the end of the couch. She didn’t look that thrilled. I sighed and walked to her.

“What’s wrong?” I asked her as I sat beside her.

Genevieve smiled at me and I noticed that she's tearing up. “I’m just scared,” she told me.

I narrowed my eyes at her. “Why?” I asked. “You should be thrilled because you’re going to be happy with Chester forever,” I told her.

She chuckled and wiped her tears. “I have a lot of insecurities, Ashanti,” she told me. “What if he leaves me after? What if we won't last long? What if he back away?” She sobbed.

I smiled at her as I watched and listened to her worries.

“Genevieve,” I held her hand. “He loves you. Do you think he would wait this long if he didn’t love you too much? He courted you since school days. Don’t you still believe that he loves you more than anything else?” I asked her.

Genevieve froze for a while before smiling widely. “Where did you get your words?” she asked me. She’s back with her Genevieve accent.

I chuckled. “I get matured from time to time, too, you know!” I beamed and we laughed together, not actually minding the bridal shower.

Genevieve and I had a little more talk before I told her that I needed to go home. I’m bored actually. I’d rather sleep.

I walked to the gate when I saw Kristoff getting off his car, too.

He looked at me, shocked. “Why are you home so early?” he asked me.

It was just about two hours since we separated for the parties but now, we're here.

“It was boring,” I replied. “What about you?” I asked.

He smiled. “Not fun,” he replied.

Then we both chuckled as we went inside. It was just eleven in the evening and we don't have work tomorrow, so we decided to watch a movie instead.

Kristoff had his hands wrapped around me while we watched The Vow. I wanted to watch that. He didn’t get a say.

“How many kids do you want to have?” Kristoff asked me randomly.

I got up and gave him a look. “Why are you asking?” I asked.

He just shrugged.

I smiled. “Two. One boy. One girl,” I replied.

He smiled at me. “Why just two?” he asked me.

I narrowed my eyes at him. His grin meant something else. I know. I can feel it.

“Because I don't want to be in excruciating pain many times,” I replied.

He nodded then pulled me closer to him again. “Of course, your wish is my command,” he told me as we continued to watch the movie.

It felt really good when we're together like this. It feels like we don't have problems. We feel carefree.

Suddenly, Kristoff and I looked at each other. It was a random incident and he leaned in and kissed me gently. I felt something inside me. I felt like I want to take this to another level. I want my family to go another level. I responded to his kiss until we are having a hot making out session on the couch.

Kristoff hands are on my side while I wrapped my arms around his neck. I'm savoring his lips as we both moved in rhythm.

“I want to make love to you,” he whispered and I smiled.

So this was the reason why we went home early. Making love.
